How the heck is nobody talking about the animation. Its flawless. The characters actually are moving like humans and there is such a beautiful flow to it.
@helloofthebeach2 жыл бұрын
I believe it was somewhat roto-scoped, but they used it to make the details even more fluid instead of the stiff tracing we normally associate with the term. Stuff like hair, clothing and Spike's incredible smugness are all hand crafted. Disney uses (or used) similar techniques but sequences like this blow them out of the water. The artistry here is incredible.
@cobaltcardsgaming59822 жыл бұрын
@@helloofthebeach Just because something is realistic doesn’t mean its rotoscoped. The opening cut of Spike in the movie walking with very realistic detail (even subtly shifting his gait as he stops walking) was confirmed to be done purely by hand by an artist talented in capturing human movement.

Its the lack of ‘posing’ that does it. Most anime have the characters constantly strike ridiculous poses that are meant to look cool but also look extremely unnatural. Meanwhile when Spike jumps over the gate at the end of this clip he is stumbling and flailing his arms, not at all composed.

98kazer Nobody lacks pride; it just encompasses different aspects of each individual's lives. But the fighting bit is easily fixed. If you want to be a good fighter, just take boxing lessons. Not only will it make you stronger, but boxing is the most time-tested and reliable fighting style there is. I've seen pro boxers mop the floor with Karate experts in seconds.

I have to admit, the dub is better! They changed the lines to make Spike seem way more slick and badass. When he flipped the coin, originally he said he would tell her the truth but they changed it to you have to go out on a date with me. The famous "I love the kind of woman that can kick my ass" was just "strong women are my type" in japanese. And they added other interesting parts like laughing, talking about her outfit, the en garde. Very well done.

imo dub is far superior voice acting wise. Agree with Yaya lu on spike's line changes
@jiminycricket1235 жыл бұрын
I watched the first episode subbed and dubbed, like I always do when people online present a strong case for dubs. And, like always ends up happening aside from once maybe twice, the sub is infinitely superior. Almost every iconic scene, especially the one where faye tries to stop spike from going to die, I have watched both subbed and dubbed then repeated. Subbed is leagues ahead throughout all of them at getting the message across which the writer intended.

@Shadowmech885 жыл бұрын
@@jiminycricket123 The sub is better at getting the writer's intent across by virtue of likely being close to verbatim what he wrote, but the writer's original intent is not necessarily the best possible form of any given story. Most of the dubs people regard as the best performance-wise have been rewritten to flow more naturally in the new language. Exact translation can make for technically better understanding, but often comes across as broken or stiff and makes for a poor viewing experience.

+Kevlar for days The industry in deep trouble nowadays. People are just trying to turn a profit, sticking to what works, especially in terms of animation styles. It was a little more lax back then and shows back in the 90s saw the creators really going all out. There were all kinds of crazy and clever styles back then. Now there's like a small handful of distinct styles.

Me either! No current person in Hollywood can capture all that makes Spike, SPIKE! Not Keanu, not Cho, no one I can think of. The Spike check list: □ Tall □ Playful □ Laidback demeanor □ Fluid fighting style I feel like casting Spike should be easy considering that Spike was based off of Yūsaku Matsuda in Detective Story. Hollywood just have to broaden their search and pick a new face with talent. Do like the fact that the tried to stick with an Asian main character but Cho ain't it.

@@Angel-nf4nt Well, Spike doesn’t have to be played by an Asian actor. The name Spike Spiegel itself implies a Jewish ethnicity so essentially, anyone with charisma and fighting experience can play the character just enough. Reeves is honestly the most accurate choice at the moment; he has real life martial arts training and is super likable and charming in his own way already, all he lacks is Spike’s more outward, charismatic nature and that he looks a bit too old now sadly.

I LOVE this anime's fight scenes. So technical and realistic. You can see every movement. Unlike most other anime where every fight scene is just a screen full of slashing, rushing wind, and power-up auras. DBZ, Naruto, Bleach, etc. take notes. But now here's a premise. Imagine an anime with the mental chess-like play-by-play of Death Note combined with the leverage and precision of the action scenes in Cowboy Bebop. Why can't something like that exist?
@UberDanger10 жыл бұрын
Fate/Zero is the closest thing I can think of, it's very mature, and it has a lot of mind games in the same way that Death note or Code geass had, and it has incredibly well choreographed action sequences. It also looks fantastic, their budget must have been made of diamonds or something.
@eruantien993210 жыл бұрын
The fights in Black Lagoon are pretty damn realistic (with the exception of a couple of moments, anyone who's watched the second series knows which scene I mean in particular). Main protagonists get shot more than once, all the guns are accurate, though I have to wonder where Revvy's keeping her spare mags for her Berretas...

Eh, i'd still take the lightening fast, out of this world kentic and bad ass fight choreography from DBZ over this any day. I guess I'm just not interested in Anime trying to imitate real life. I can appreciate it, and yes it's visually/technically impressive but it just doesn't impress or interest me anywhere near on the level of the later DBZ episodes. If they fought like this in DBZ i'd be crying in my sleep.
