One of the best Amulet Titan players, Dom Harvey, ( Literally just won back-to-back NRG series over the weekend with the deck ) basically called it insane & wants to try to maindeck one somehow.

Like, even if I exclusively play basics I can't draw off Endless Atlas until turn 3 the earliest, and then that's all I'm doing.

Y'all should value Strip Mine as much as Seth. I also play a Strip/Wasteland in every commander deck and the vast majority of the time, and with proper threat assessment, it does deal with the problem land at the table. If everyone else also runs them, it becomes very easy to stop utility lands before they get out of control.

props to crim for the ruination win. i'm here to say, there are plenty of players willing to play land destruction, and won't be salty when it happens to them. ramp and card draw really do need to be punished in this format enough to bring it under control. make people think twice about ramp packages and advantage engines. get creative. land destruction really isn't bad when the player doing it has an advantage engine online and ends the game soon. the ruination ended that game in a swift manner without drawing it out. the long drawn out land destruction with no wincon or advantage is what should be frowned upon. sloppy play should be frowned upon. just my 2 cents.

Richard is capping. He and Seth have 100% claimed targeted LD is socially banned. One issue with MLD no one brought up, which (I think) is the whole reason why people have issue with MLD, is that it punishes innocent players. Imagine playing a land a turn and then getting MLDed because of the green player that was also stomping you. Lastly, Richard is missing that you can fetch for basics, and ramp using them. Once you play enough basics, you are way more likely to see them.

For the land problem do you think if removal became more versatile and we could more easily destroy target land that would help. Instead of having one beastwithin your dissinchants and go for the throats have or target no basic land stapled to them. It would allow you to with less of a cost blow up field of the dead or glacial chasm. Otherwise I don’t mind Seth’s idea of having a wipe with destroy all lands with triggered abilities or activated abilities that don’t produce 1 mana. It allows your fixing but punishes greedy value mana bases

Yeah sorry Richard, but if you read ruination and you think its the same as Armageddon, the issue is you not ruination. It exists to perform exactly as it did in the game where you got blown out by it. Punish that greedy mana base baby. Also your 5c decks have access to all the basic land ramp in the format so if ruination is an Armageddon to you there, you still got greedy. My grixis decks would on average lose 2-3 lands to a ruination and they have no issues casting spells, and they aren't treasure decks either

I would push back on Richard’s idea that they need to make sweepers for nonbasic lands utility lands, but not duals just to allow the play of 4/5 color decks. There should be a cost to playing these decks similar to playing an all artifacts deck and getting stone aged by a vandal blast. If they fold to something like a blood moon or back to basics I think that’s the risk that you take in order to get the benefit of playing most/every color

Good job on your house bans. If R&D is going to take land destruction off the table, the natural followup to that is you can't have victory conditions / lock pieces on lands either, because then you have uninteractible win conditions.

Mono W has both Generous Gift and Mangara of Corondor. Do not sleep on Mangara of Corondor, that thing is so cracked when you pair it with flicker effects, andnot terrible when you just play it for value. Rattlesnake to the max.

Just a thought after listening to Crim's land turned green rant. What if they started putting in a bunch of specifically non-basic land hate? Like non-basic Armageddons, more things like blood moon, removals that are any non-basic permanent, etc etc So that running nearly all non-basics was actually a big risk. I get blood mooned like once a week so it seems it doesn't have the same stigma as "all lands" does.

Urza's Sylex is what they can do about green ramp. Limit the number of lands people can have out so you can knock them back down if they've got too much advantage but you don't stop them from playing the game. I'd personally like a red 3RR sorcery that destroys everyone's lands except 4 they choose and makes a treasure for each player who had a nonbasic destroyed this way. Black could have some kind of enchantment that drains people on your upkeep based on their nonbasic lands or number of lands above a number, perhaps with the option of them sacrificing lands to gain life. I think with enough playable cards like this where they either progress a game or knock back a player with too much advantage but allow the game to continue then the land ramp problem could be resolved.

I think there's an answer for the ramp player... Kind of like the Saga from Dominaria, where it returns 4 lands from the graveyard after their all destroyed. Or have people divide their lands into 2 piles and their opponent chooses which one they sacrifice. Or they keep 4 lands and the rest are destroyed. Or destroy all lands that don't have a land type.

I don't think single problematic lands are too much of a problem. In addition to inexpensive staples like Beast Within and Generous Gift and more expensive staples like Stripmine and Boseiju, Who Endures. Wizards is also printing niche land destruction cards in most of the recent sets.

There are sweepers for creatures, sweepers for enchantments, sweepers for Artifacts, hell there's sweepers that catch Planeswalkers. Imagine the problems you'd have without those. Land sweepers are fine by me. People would be complaining about go wide decks if no one ran Wrath of God.

Ruination hitting dual lands is great. Right now, there is basically no reason to not play 5 color decks if you want to have the best tools for your strategy. It's insane to me that we now just accept that multiple colors should be almost just as consistent as mono color land bases. The whole point of barring the colors behind different lands is to introduce a consistency cost to over- diversifying your accessible colors. We're at the point where all lands should just tap for every color, or we accept cards like ruination hitting dual lands because there should be an inherent risk to being greedy with your color identity.

Wizards printed urza's sylex which I think most playgroups consider not that salty land hate and I love it. I think there should be a ton more effects that put the table down to a reasonable amount of lands for non green players. IMO they should make another balance, but only for lands, and it probably shouldn't be the lowest, but instead the lowest of your opponents. If they word it like that it stops people from having like lotus field thespian's stage and setting everyone back to 2 while theyre on 6, and I think it would really improve the format overall. Especially if it was target remove lands instead of just "choose 6 and sac the rest". Its obviously tough because you can really screw someone and remove all their sources of a particular color, but mana bases are so good these days im not even sure if that matters anymore.

I think magic needs more cards like Keldon Firebombers. Set everyones lands to the same number to actually punish the ramp decks. Wildfire type effects can be gotten around by ramping harder than everyone else, youll still be left with more lands. Firebombers is the truth honestly

I think most groups don't have ramp as the issue - though it is very strong - so much as treasures. Dockside is waaaaay more troublesome than green ramping. Treasure have artifact synergies, usually are recurrable via dockside bodies or recurrable spells like Big Score, and fix mana for whatever color you need. I haven't ever considered green writ large to be an issue (white ramps almost as hard these days), but treasures can and do end games super quickly if unchecked.

The way to fix issues like "green ramp is too busted" is to just allow everything. cEDH is relatively well balanced because everyone plays fast mana (meaning that cheaper green ramp is decent but not broken) and everyone is packing tons of interaction to deal with problematic permanents (field of the dead, the one ring etc. are all good but not busted) AND no one has any problem with stax, mass land destruction etc. People play to win, every strategy is respected and people don't get salty when you combo off etc. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the issue isn't whether cards need to be banned or not. You don't want to police how people have fun. You want to make sure that everyone has the same goal and if they do, they'll make the necessary decisions to meet that goal. In cEDH, it's play to win so players are bringing all the cutthroat fast mana and stax. In casual, just communicate with your playgroup that the goal is to have fun and what things cross the line.

it's a little confusing since Ossification is white and Tinybones is black. Oko on Disdainful Stroke and Rakdos on Go For the Throat make sense for their color, Snakeskin Vein obviously fits Vraska's color AND flavor, but Tinybones is just flavor, not color, so I can see how it seems "out of color" at first

I think a cool MLD would be destroy all nonbasics, then each player searches & puts on the battlefield a # of basics equal to highest # of lands destroyed for 1 player. 5-color can still fix, but running low # of basics would be punished by failure to find.

If you play combos with non-basic lands, they will be targeted. Perhaps made land destruction is passé; however, targeted land destruction is fair game with anyone I play with. Be versatile in your removal 🤷‍♂️

Also, I do think lands should be especially looked at for bans. Which feels bad to say, as I enjoy my lands decks so seeing stuff like Glacial Chasm feels so bad. But no one can defend field, shits so annoying. I feel like they should make a modal shock with a ghost quarter ability on it or something so that people can run stone rains that arent gonna guarantee salt everytime they see play.

Standard showdown impatiently is not run on normal LGS. Just the "official" ones. As I live in. Big city in Germany I have allot of LGS here and neighboring cities somevin 5 minute waking distance, but I would have to drive several hours for the next "official" store ....this is so bullshit

The Big Score cards seeing play in multiple formats makes me wish they were still an aftermath set. As a bonus sheet in the regular set they are incredibly hard to find. Players really screwed the pooch on this one.

Seth asked a question on how much does a president of a company actually matter. The answer is not much. There are studies on this and in general the president is pretty meaningless... unless they get performance incentives, in which case they have a negative effect on the company.

Also all of the goldfish crew play way to many nonbasic lands in their decks even in mono colored decks they ten to only have 5 at most which is insane. Even my 5 color decks run at least 2 of each basic
