Heh. Look at _EVERY_ QB's stats who played with Jerry Rice with & without him & their passing #s to him versus all other of their receivers. None of them declined. They all _bombed_ without him. Steve Young was a *tremendous bust* without him who got truly lucky they had T.O. to pick up the slack the one season Rice got injured. The mark of QB greatness isn't winning with the best roster, it's elevating weaker ones like Mahomes & Fields (in the 8 games Eberflus allowed Getsy more control over the offense) do. Fields & Getsy made the Bears the #1 offense 3 weeks straight _BEFORE_ they acquired D.J. Moore. He out-played Mahomes, Allen & Burrow's élite WR trio breaking records with Darnell Mooney & Chase Claypool, two guys famous for being unable to catch passes that land on them as his main 2 receivers. _That_ is legendary. Unfortunately, Eberflus is charismatic & Fields got blamed for all those losses. Amazing isn't it how perceptions count for more than facts with most people? "This proves Fields can't wi" because the Bears lost all 3 of those games.

I started at QB for two years on a very good varsity team (Merritt Island H.S. in Merrit Island Fl.), with my dad being the OC those two years (he played QB at Navy) and learned to read defenses from watching a lot of the 22 tape with my dad. I fancy myself a pretty good college QB scout...from the tape I saw of Trey in college I was shocked anyone had him rated as a top prospect. All I saw when I watched him was a big kid more physically mature than the H.S. level talent he was playing against...his big runs where he over powered people were against defensive players that would have had a hard time starting on my H.S. teams. I thought he had a slow delivery and didn't look terribly natural in the pocket...he did have a strong arm but that is all I saw that i liked and even that wasn't an Elway or Marino arm. I had him rated as a 3rd round or lower pick...nothing I saw said high first round and certainly not top 5.

Apples and oranges though, for one Love was a three year starter in college. Two, Love wasn't injured like Lance was early on in his career. It seems to me that the 49ers, powers that be, had too much confidence that they could develop a raw QB, from an unmolded ball of clay. I was really disappointed in the pick and two, at what they gave up to move up to draft him. In this day and age, there is no player worth that much draft capital. It's the way the college game is played, there's no sure fire QB'S out there, it's all speculation and a crapshoot. Secondly, yes the covid shortened season was definitely not the time to use up all your savings to buy lottery tickets. I mean it's easy to say in hindsight, but I truly felt no one in that class was worth what they gave up. Especially since all that capital that was spent wasn't even on the first overall pick.....😐

A 1st round #3pick QB who was given a season and offseason to learn and given the Job. The 49ers sat Jimmy and even kept Brock at 3rd when they all thought he was the better QB. It shows Trey had his chances and if he practiced better would of jumped jimmy in the 2021 season to be the starter part way through the season. This is on Trey and not the 49ers.

I don't see how the 5th year option matters at all - It's not like he is starting, so even if they 100% where to think he is the QB of the future, there is no incentive to pick the 5th year option up, just give him a cheap extension, it's not like he can credibly say 'Then I'l go Free agent and take my big payday from X".

You see...it wasn't just kyle ..so far the niners and cowboys both see something that trey is seriously lacking. I feel bad for the man for the fact football is obviously his dream... something he worked very hard for...when he hit the nfl he thought he was about to be a star. He is in his own right...he never got a true shot at being a starter...not for one full season....but damm so far both teams are passing so it must mean trey is lacking in important areas. I dont feel bad in the fact bro has made some good money for practicing. But still, he probably wanted much more for his career. I truly hope some team says fuck it and gives him a shot to start for a season. Idc what team just any team so trey can actually get some playing time before hes out for good . unless he nails it and becomes a starter!
