I drove a 565 single door, grey cab a long time ago, prob 1984/5 on a place that carted grass via a single chop to the cows daily- cows were always on 2 paddocks and you drove in, got thro the cows, started the trailer tipping and tried to get the grass out in as many lumps as you could for all the cows to eat. Place was a Micky mouse joke! I did it for extra ££ whilst at ag college at wkends!

Have a 575 from 1979 silver cab whit two doors we never had one door in Sweden. Its been on the farm for almost 30 years it was my fathers tractor and i haven't got the heart to sell it so i kept it and still use it along whit a 399, 5465 and a 6445

Remember trading in a P reg 135 for a 1979 (new) 550 with the silver top cab as our “small” tractor, I’ve never driven anything with such light steering. You couldn’t turn the heater on while you were in the cab or you got a face full of dust for ten seconds but once it cleared it was fairly warm, about the second tractor we had with a heater, bliss in the winter 👍

Great video Dan! We all know the real reason you bought a red cab version is so that you'll have a good enough reason to buy a silver cab if one comes up! 😆 Could the yellow paint on the hard nose be from if it's been replaced by one that used to be in an industrial one? Love videos, keep up the good work and looking forward to seeing your video's of you fixing up the small issues that you mentioned.

We had 2 of those 550's when i was at school. The first was a 1 door grey cab but no pick up hitch. Those and spool valves were options. Old man changed it 2 years later for the 2 door red cab with puck up hitch. I was so excited thinking we could pull the Teagle titan 7T silage trailers when the neighbours came.to do our silage but it didn't have enough power so we used their 165.

I used to drive the red cab 590 1980(W) multi power many years ago did a lot of ploughing and silage hauling with it, spent a whole day silage hauling with no exhaust as the silencer fell off and went under the rear wheel due to the old stoney lanes where i worked.

We had a 575 with a silver cab. It was a great tractor but we should have had 4wd. Ours was a 1978 (bought new) and left the farm in 93 and replaced with a 390. They were all prone to rust.
@hedydd23 жыл бұрын
The 500 series were a first generation cab, as was the even more rust prone 600 series. Basically their frame and body was made from fabricated and welded sheet steel formed into boxes. This is unlike current cabs which have thick pillar formed frames with single skin panels with relatively minimal rust traps.

Had a 590 multi power, the large left hand window on those cabs was good when hedge trimming and probably one of the easyest cabs to get in and out of.some time massey used a yellow under coat i seem to remember, could this be the yellow paint you can see?
@mikeclifton77783 жыл бұрын
My preference would be the silver-cabbed single door models but hopefully it'll all work out. To get a Multi Power version is good, making up for the lack of it on the 165. It should be able to earn it's keep with a bt of hard graft too.

Hmm. I had a 595 [1975] and 590 4WD [1979], the former with MP and the latter with 8 speed synchro. Both terribly and seriously unreliable tractors and put me off MF from 1983 until 2004 when I bought a new 7490 followed in 2007 by a 5445 T3, both superb machines.

It's a Simpson engine. Probably has an IPTO rather than dual clutch, seeing as it has MP and spool valves, which also means that it has an auxiliary hydraulic pump and combining valve. Yes, a proper microbic fuel filter is essential. The original was a CAV796 and they are easily sourced and cheap.
@CowfarmerDan3 жыл бұрын
All correct, except no combining valve for some reason.

A five series with a rusting cab I'm shocked they all had paper mache cabs
@hedydd23 жыл бұрын
All those boxed in welded sheet steel panels with multiple rust traps was the order of the day. Ford cabs were no better and both MF and Ford's bubble cab were built side by side at Sankey's Telford factory. Ford decided on curves to reduce drumming but it had far more parts welded together. Fiat and Same tractors of the same era had dreadful quality sheet steel that turned into rust in front of your eyes, just like Italian cars of the time.
