Festus is gonna be gone in time, breaks my heart, I could never be a farmer, we have20 free range ckns here, they live their life, pets, no eating them here, nope, like I said, I’d be a shitty farmer😔

If you can get a second hand pro or semi pro woodsplitter with a bigger table and a loglift, that would reduce the pressure on your hernia. The added advantage would be that these splitters usually are a lot faster than the boxstore splitter you are using now. another option would be to roll the logs in the bucket of the farmall and lift the bucket to the height of the splitter, that would reduce your lifting by hand and give you a bigger working area at the splitter. I know you are very busy but maybe you can work toward the goal of splitting your firewood a year in advance. Espewcially your oak firewood will not be dry enough to be burned with good efficiency this year. That usually takes over a year to dry after splitting (rule of thumb is one inch per year from the outside in which is why splitting it small reduces the frying time). It will often burn when it is not seasoned, and it will burn longer, but a lot of the heat is lost to evaporating the moisture in the wood, in the end it will result in less heat available for heating.

pro tip from a dairy farmer, flip the tit cup that isn't being used on top of the claw will increase weight on the claw, it hitting the ground is taking weight off from it, just talking from experience, good job being a new dairy man

Hey guys.....try using saw dust as bedding for warmth. They don't eat it! You need about 4 in. thick bed...or more is better.

Cute the cows love the corn stalks and surprised Mesa can do that happy dance being pregnant and all. I wonder if there are any farmers willing to give you some so they get their treats through the winter. Also I see more corn planted in next years garden😊

Greetings from Northeast Ohio. You probably know this, but straw makes better bedding than hay. If hay gets wet it stays wet and gets moldy. If straw gets wet, it will dry again.

You might not be allergic to the corn dust -- maybe it'd something they treat the corn with -- fertilizer? insecticide? PS plastic tarps never protected my plants. I always used an o;d blanket or packing blanket.

Re: Your corn sensitivity. (just throwing thoughts out here) I'm sensitive to corn seed coat. I can't eat more than two servings of corn (I love corn), and if I do, I get a bit runny - It causes inflammation in my gut and the gut wants it gone.. Could it be that you're sensitive to the seed coat too, and that you've got a contact dermatitis allergy (Not a deathly allergy, but something that's a but of an annoyance)? Is there any other way that your body shows you it'd rather you'd go easy on corn contact?

Since you are cooking in the shop and you need hot water for milking the cow and the cream separator, why not put a permanent water line and a water heater in the shop?

You’re up. And awake and you love you some milk !! Have you assessed whether or not the investmentS are worth it ? Equipment is the relatively cheap investment but your time Morining and night along with the yield … I think it’s an honest question. If their food source runs out or if there’s no power then eventually this question makes no sense. lol. Solar without reliable sun is questionable at best. Just questions

What temperature can a cow endure over winter nights? The wood shed is open and so is theirs, does it cause a draft through?
