Jesse's begrudging perseverance is what I live for in this series.

I like that both time the "game crashed" it was actually just jesse having his cursor on the quit button and left clicking as the main menu launched :)

1:30:15 I think that is the point though. One of those endings mentioned something about continuing to exist by not "finishing" the story, because once the story ends with a "satisfying" ending, it's gone and then forgotten, which would essentially kill the memetic existence. Think of an earworm (the type of song, not an actual bug), it's designed not to be _fully_ memorized so that you're constantly thinking about it because your brain _wants_ to finish the song but can't remember how to, so it keeps replaying what it remembers to try and jog your memory. By making it exceptionally frustrating to the "true" end, the statement in that ending is proven. You _know_ the answer to the question now: Who is Lila? Lila is the memetic meme that is the question "who's Lila?" No more mystery, question is answered, moving on just to be forgotten (especially since you're memory is going to want to suppress the frustration of finishing it 100%). It can no longer be "an earworm," but most people won't get there, they'll just get _most_ of the way there and the get this effect of "well what _was_ the true ending" and keep thinking about Who's Lila?, continuing Lila's existence. Do I think that's "fun" in terms of gameplay? Not at all, Pony Island had a much more satisfying way of presenting it, but it is a valid take on a way to convey that message.

I do somewhat disagree that the game hides too much, I think you do find everything you need to understand the game organically (as Jesse did) but then the game presents you with deeper mystery and wares you down cause you are Yu and you have to keep chasing nothing/the same thing even though doing so is you actively "losing the game". This has precedent in Schastye (The dev's first game in this same universe) where the "Good Ending" involves you walking away from the story and not learning more. Jesse had a feeling that "Who's Lila?" was an infohazard early on but felt compelled to chase it anyway making this an incredible playthrough.

I feel like the point is that it eventually gets painful and tedious to finish, but you do it anyway because WHO IS LILA

Poor Jessie. He didn't take the face mechanic serious in the beginning, and not it comes back to bite him.

That ending, is all about "But what does it mean?!" thus making others keep talking about it/Lila, keeping "her" alive. :D

Jesse, i hightly recommend that you watch Flawed Peacock's Who's Lila explanation video. It is hilarious and goes so much further than you would think. He has also done deep dives into Pony Island and such, and they are so good+ Anyway, good job persevering with this game!!!

So Jesse, now that you've discovered who Lila is, does that mean it's time to take a trip down Burnhouse Lane? I love, love, loved your Cat Lady and Lorelai playthroughs so I was so disappointed when you never even touched Burnhouse.

I still have questions. First, what was the significance of the Dada Dog? One of the documents seemed to claim it was an artificial UIW like what Lawrence was trying to make, but why is it important to the story? Was the steam monster in the boiler room the Dada Dog? It looked kinda canine. What's the point of the Dada Dog other than a background element? I feel like you should've been able to get into the locker that had the dog on it. Second, who the hell is the Stranger? Is it what Will looks like when he's not possessed by Lila? Is it another one of Lawrence's followers who survived the fire, and Lila possesses him after Will rejects her? Why was there no real answer to that question? Lila hints at him being Will but different, but I'm not even sure if that's what she meant or what that even means.

33:12 The Garden of Forking Paths is indeed a real story written by Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges. The protagonist is the Chinese professor Yu Tsun, and "the story's theme has been said to foreshadow the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics".

So its not - "Who's Lila?" but "What's Lila?" The answer in both cases boiling down to "A question." Ngl, I was facinated by this game the first itme I saw it, but now It just kinda feels....boring?

Ending feels like a lazy cop out imo the mystery itself was more interesting.
@jesperjohansson69596 ай бұрын
So the dev posted a list of questions on twitter that need to be answered for the player to really "solve" the game. I think including such a list of questions in the game itself instead would've helped a lot. At some point you've figured out the main mystery - you know who and what Lila is, but not *why*. The posted questions actually help you piece together why and get a better grasp on the game's bigger "message."

1:19:51 That would be the Jesse/ common sense arcana, if there ever was any. I appreciate you playing this through to the end and torturing yourself to try to get all of the endings. On the one hand, the ideas this game tries to bring forth is definitely interesting, on the other hand, try to unlock all the endings blind definitely becomes tiresome. 1:28:16 I blame you for this Jesse 😡This does mean that you and whoever watch this game are royally f****ed. Unless of course, we completely forget about this game.

So, given that "ending", what was the point of all this? More detail on what I mean below. Spoilers beyond this point. If Lila is just some kind of parasitic question, why make this game? In universe, people have to die to be separated from her. They don't need to understand the question, they just need to have asked it. If the point is spreading the parasitic question, why would Lila choose to spread the question this way? Just to be vindictive and evil? She benefits nothing from this, a better vector for the question would be to add this into an actually... good game that doesn't frustrate people, something that doesn't feel so high brow with no final payoff. Lila, if you want some free advice, try tossing this question in as a piece of graffiti on the side of a building people can't help but see in a satisfying game. They wonder if it will ever come up again, then don't answer it. People theorize about it and actually get curious, make people want to talk about it. The question spreads itself. Basically, be Peng from Deadspace 1 and 2 (I don't know if it was in 3, never played that game). There's always Peng. I don't know what it means, but it actually lives in my head. I'll forget this... pretensions weirdness. Who's Lila? Who cares at this point? Sorry you had to go through this Jesse, but you added a lot of laughs and interesting times into this... experience.
@jesperjohansson69596 ай бұрын
Lila didn't make the game, the dev did - or his in-game character, The Emperor. And the emperor character doesn't seem that concerned with whether the parasite gets spread or not - he's just using its intrigue to get you to play his game. When you meet the emperor in one of the routes he's so grateful to you for being a new "vessel" for his creation that he literally gives you a Steam link to a hack for the game, because he only wants you to experience everything and has no problems with helping you find answers to the parasitic question.
