What’s funny is it only happens intermittently. It’ll do perfectly fine and then randomly decide to click/clunk only on the passenger side too

I just figured this out earlier today after putting on my front lowering springs. Backed the car out the garage to turn it around and starting hearing a clunking sound from the front. I looked again at 21mm nut and noticed there was a gap between the nut and top of the strut plate. I tightened them down and was good to go after that 👍🏼

For those of u who ever read this and after tightening but are still facing the sound , change the Bush stopper to a shorter one at the top mount or cut it , I changed mine to a shorter one and the sound went away , the suspension has limited travel hence causing the springs to not compress fully or not able to decompress due to the limited stroke , hope this helps someone out , it took me a few days and changing multiple parts to figure this out myself with the mechanic

Try replacing the strut mounts, they will cause a clunking noise, especially when making a tight turn. If clunk is over bumps, try up grading sway bar end links.

I put the tein lowerings springs on lancer gts 2016, when being parked and turning the wheel to get out from the parking, there was at terrible clunking, some people recommended putting on lithium grease every month and it fixed it temporarily, are you sure it's the strut mounts? which ones should I get?

@thomasrouh22589 ай бұрын
I've had this issue on pre-assembled struts several times......if you're going to spend the money on lowering an s550 do your homework first......The very best option is not to cut corners on the install......I can't stress enough how important camber plates and billet shock mounts are. Even if it's not a drastic drop you're changing the geometry of an engineered suspension. And to make the torque specs correct on that strut a lot easier buy yourself a strut socket for the price of the vice grips. Then seriously correct the ball joint roll center with Steeda control arms.....If you do it right the first time it will cost you less in parts and labor down the road.....

Thank you very much! i was so frustrated by the clunk i had. I got in there many times re- setting the preload and checking all the nuts for tightness but the clunk persisted. tried this tip and now rides and sounds silky smooth. so relieved. Thanks again man. you saved my sanity lol.

I also did not realize that you aren’t supposed to use vice grips on the shiny parts of the strut... I used them on bare strut without a rag and never messed them up. Only thing that went wrong was the strut nut came loose

How loud was the clunking sound before you tightened the upper strut nut? Your video speaks directly to me because "I just installed new rear coil overs" on my '05 RSX Type S yesterday. LOL. I am going to check the upper strut nut tomorrow. As soon as I drove the car after the install I heard a very noticeable clunking (thump thump thump) sound from the passenger side rear. It sounds like a big rock being slammed around inside a 55 gallon drum. It is easy to hear outside the car as well as my neighbor was on his driveway when I took off for the test drive. I immediately turned around and jacked the car up in my driveway and took the wheel off. The bottom nut was tight. I made sure the collars on the coilover were tight and checked the two nuts on top of the strut mount. I now have seen where several people had issue with the actual upper strut nut. I'll take it out tomorrow and see. I think also being in the rear that the spring may be hitting against something. At any rate was yours a pretty loud clunk? Mine happened as soon as I drove forward. Didn't matter if I turned or hit a bump. It was in a rhythm with my speed.
@RegularGuyGarage4 жыл бұрын
Some coil overs will make noise, but my clunk happened anytime I would hit a bump. The type of noise you’re describing with yours is pretty accurate though to what I was having. Especially since it’s just the one side in the rear. Hope you get it figured out
@VidTubeWatch4 жыл бұрын
@@RegularGuyGarage Thank you for your reply. I took off the passenger rear coil over today, and the preload was not set properly. I should of checked before installing it. You live and you learn. Function and Forms website says it is set for preload and ready for easy install. I also went around and tightened all the sway bar bolts on both sides of the car and anything else that I hadn't touched previously. Took it for a drive around the block and no more clunk.

🤔 This might be my problem. I installed lowering springs, and after two weeks it developed a clunk. Perhaps, the stiffer suspension causes the bolts to back up a bit. I will check mine again.

Thanks for the video. I have a clunking noise on low speed turns after lowering on springs. I tried this and the top nut was not up to torque, but sadly the sound persists after torqueing.
