I have a 1989 pontiac grand am that I had a rebuilt motor put in. Soon after that, the flex plate got loose and I'm wondering.Do you have to take the motor out or can you just tighten it where it's at? I tried working on it myself but don't know what I'm doing and took the starter off and had someone help me and they broke the bolt on the exhaust pipe. So instead of getting better it's getting worse! I've towed it to two different shops and they didn't touch it for one reason or another. It's got other issues too like after I put on a new heater core.No heat! Filled the coolant on the air conditioner after a new compressor and it leaked out. Maybe the condenser. 🙈

Dont buy a automatic and you womt have the active fuel management/displacement on demand to worry about as its not on those engines and stick is quicker once rollibg above 50 anyway 😊. Main reason, because you cant just tune that out and think its good to go. No it isnt. You need to replace the 4 weak valves /springs etc, crank, basically a cam swap too and it is expensive!! 4-5k parts and labor. The older LT1 ala LS3 was soooo much easier to swap a cam... LT1 cam swap is a half engine disassembly mess.

2 things for anyone else that might decide to weld their subframe connectors just as you did 1. The suspension needs to be loaded because if the car is twisted while welding then it will be stuck that way. Not advisable to weld on jackstands as you did. 2. It’s best to pull the carpet to prevent burning a hole in the carpet while welding. Then reinstall carpet when finished.
@michaelakers86985 ай бұрын
Instead of cutting the plug off of mine i just unpinned the wires from the connector and pinned them in a new plug then got the exciter wire from a newer car and pinned it in so theres no splice to tape up and it gives a more factory look

Please don't waste your money on anything from Strange. I had their shocks and struts installed in my Mustang and they literally failed within weeks. I only use my car for street use and they couldn't even live up to that. THEY OFFER NO WARRANTY on their components. I wasted almost $1000!

Your springs will determine ride height. Unless you get coilovers you won’t be able to adjust ride height

I was able to keep the single exhaust brake hard line that runs down the passenger side when I converted to dual exhaust. I bought a v8 brake hose coupler that is usually riveted to the center of the trunk pan. The 5.0 online parts houses sell that bracket for about 25 to 30. I used large sheet metal screws to mount it to the pre-existing holes in the floor pan. Then i put two simple bends in a pre-flared generic hard line from the local parts store to connect that v8 brake hose coupler to the existing single exhaust hard line that is on the passenger side. The connection is made with a simple union to where the single exhaust hose normally screws onto that passenger side hard line.
@RegularGuyGarage6 ай бұрын
Yea looking at what I have and what’s already there, I think I’ll be able to keep the existing line. I won’t have an exhaust back there since I’m doing a fender exit so it won’t be a huge issue

The bad thing is if the column ever locks for some reason and you can’t steer it won’t be good. I would pick safety over an easy route anyway.

I've had this issue on pre-assembled struts several times......if you're going to spend the money on lowering an s550 do your homework first......The very best option is not to cut corners on the install......I can't stress enough how important camber plates and billet shock mounts are. Even if it's not a drastic drop you're changing the geometry of an engineered suspension. And to make the torque specs correct on that strut a lot easier buy yourself a strut socket for the price of the vice grips. Then seriously correct the ball joint roll center with Steeda control arms.....If you do it right the first time it will cost you less in parts and labor down the road.....
