This is without doubt an amazing piece of software and this video just scrapes the surface of its features. The big issues that a lot of people are commenting on is the £80 price tag. This app is a retop tool which on other programs would be a script, add-on or plugin. As a large majority of iPad users are hobbyists or new to 3D an £80 price tag is way too high. The app was updated on the day I recorded this video so things are improving at a good pace and I’m sure there will be loads more functionality added in coming weeks but it still feels like a high price for a tool with essentially one function.
@lopoisaac2 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. I guess the main reason for that price is that there aren't similar apps for iPad. Maybe if they say "Hi! Our app is 30$" people would say "Too high!!" but if they say "It's 80$ but you can pay 50$ because it's Black Friday!" people would go "whaat? just 50$?? Omg So cheap!!". Still a good app but I miss a lot of features

I just spent 90 big ones on it and definitely not worth it. It was good for sure but I still had to fight it to do what I wanted. Even if it was perfect I don't quite think 90 would be a good price point. Maybe if they added UV features too but as of right now I can't reccomend it at 90$

@@ztoogemcducc6360 I’ve had a week with it now and I think I agree with you at that price point. The overwhelming feeling is that the price is way too high. @ronaldbell74292 жыл бұрын
Procreate has a far larger target audience, though (certainly more than 4x that for a specialized app like this). And I'm sure there are a lot more people who will buy a tool to sculpt than a tool to retopo those sculpts. The price is on the high side, to be sure, but the flip side of that is that we all have become laughably spoiled to low prices on iOS/iPadOS and then we wonder why apps stop getting developed. We pay not only for the work done up til now, but also for all the future work, since Apple won't let people charge for updates. Forger wound up stagnating before getting purchased by a company that charges a lot for its software. So maybe cut them some slack until you've thought about it a bit more deeply than a comparison with Procreate.

I like to do the retopo in cozyblanket. BUT the Issue for me is that it doesn`t save the session. I found no way to resume the last session when restarting the app. It only shows the retopo mesh and the high topo model is missing, If I load up the session, that I saved manually, . There are no layers for the different parts of a model either. Doing the entire retopo, uv and baking in one go/session would maybe solve the problem. But I don`t have the time and energy for that. Btw: I bought the light version and can`t find any help in the FAQ. Would not recommend to buy it in this state of development.

Great vid, will check out the program. Question: I’m still pretty new to sculpting, and topology especially eludes me. I understand that fewer polygons enables easier manipulation and rendering in other programs, but won’t it destroy detail too? After retopologizing the faun and putting it in Nomad, how did you maintain the wrinkles and creases?
@jannes31652 жыл бұрын
Typically you use a process called baking to project the details of the high poly sculpt onto the low poly mesh with a normal/displacement map. That maintains most of the detail, while still giving you the speed of a low poly mesh.
@geoffreymegardon56242 жыл бұрын
Good topology is useful if you want to animate the model (e.g. a character) or/and need lower poly count (e.g. video games). The workflow is to bake the details into a normal map texture.

I got my zfold so I could stop carrying around a surface pro every single time. This app would be amazing on a fold phone, nomad sculpt is great on folds but doesn't have a retopology option.

I am new to 3D sculpting. I have a question regarding retroplogy. It seems as if you loose alot of detail and potentially texture when doing this, can someone explain?
@Xeronymau52 жыл бұрын
That depends on how dense your retopo is. With the right edgeflow and enough density you can keep most of your details. The idea is to retopo your mesh so that the edge flow follows your forms, which will look much nicer in the end. Then you can subdivide the newly-retopologized mesh and project all of your sculpted details back onto it. The trick is projecting details back onto the mesh after retopo, which you can do in any sculpting app (including Nomad now)

Hi there!… Love your Nomad videos… I have a question if you or anyone can answer about the price of Cozy Blanket… at the App Store I see three different prices, with no real explanation of what they are… $90 for “Retopology Pack”, $20 for “Base I/O” (so you can save/export) and $70 for “Retopology Features Upgrade”… So is that actually $180 to get the full experience or is the $90 “Retopology Pack” the full package with the other two lesser stand-alone versions? Thank you in advance to anyone who can answer this question. For an app this expensive, you think they’d explain what those different price packages are for (they do sort of for I/O, but don’t say if its some stand-alone version)… Also I noticed the Suggested Age range is “4+”… Not a lot of four year olds working in CGI that can plunk down $90 for a Retopology app that I’m aware of…

They are the first to offer that kind of functionality and they capitalize hard on that. The Markting doesn't seem to see this as a tool and more as an expensive toy / overprices a novelty. Quote from the App description "...app designed as an accessible and relaxing experience,..." and "...retopology as an enjoyable, game-like process similar to solving a puzzle. ..." I could see this as useful if you were only using an iPad to develop your models, but even then, why? If you have an actual computer for building your models and preparing textures, why in the world would you push a model over to an iPad to retopologize and send it back again? I could have retopo'd them cleanly and accurately in the time you futz with mistakes and inaccuracies on the pad. This really has the same vibe as watching people hack DOOM to play on weird tech.

This app hasn’t been updated in a year, is development dead?
@shark3D2 жыл бұрын
I think after years and years of modelling / rigging / animating, I find the obsession with "good topology" to be mostly stifling and useless, you really only have one use for topological cleanliness and it's making selections easier on the original artist and this becomes doubly useless when you start by sculpting a mesh in something like nomad, apps like this are fun and relaxing bu in a way it's a holdover from old school box modelling! as far as the computer, the renderer the engine / app are concerned all topology is triangles, and an auto-topology algorithm like the one in meshmixer or zbrush are simply plenty good for any professional work
@Kaelarts_vt2 жыл бұрын
I would argue good topology is important for the sake of render so you don't have, say, artifacting or faceting of random areas of the mesh. I'd also argue good topology is important if you're doing work for games or for feature animation. When you go to deform an arm with 13k poly vs 1200 poly you really feel the difference in the amount of chugging your PC will do to try and calculate that movement. That's just my take on it anyway
@shark3D2 жыл бұрын
@@Kaelarts_vt right what you're talking about is polygon density and yes topology, in the mathematical sense, but I think there's a difference between that and the cult of quad, everything has to be perfect quads (when really people forget that quads and polar edge structure are actually opposite, the more you have of one the less you have of the other)
