🙏✊🍺🍺🍺🎩🎩🎩 You read my mind, sir…🤔 Although I hope to see extrude, loop cut, and UV maps in Nomad, it’s very satisfying to figure out a way of working within the limitations of the program. Love working low poly and knowing when to subdivide flat or “round” for a specific look. Oftentimes low poly looks exactly right, as in the case of buildings & mechanical parts, with sharp edges. Thanks as always! Brilliant stuff. 🙏🎩🎩🎩

I think now Forger has the low poly tools from Cinema 4D. I think that is a game changer for the iPad
@ztoogemcducc63602 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure the new m1 iPads could handle blender. Blender requires a 2.0 GHz CPU. M1 iPads have 3.2 Blender needs a minimum of 4 gigs of ram, M1 iPads have 8 to 16. I don't know if they run OpenGL 3.3. which is needed for blender. M1 iPads also exceed the minimum amount of vram needed for blender. I'm sure autodesk maya is incredibly similar to blender in terms of PC requirements. So if those programs magically appeared on your iPad I'm pretty sure you could comfortably work on things like modeling, UVing, and some light animation. Rendering would probably be a bad idea though. I think a blender mobile could be super cool
@SouthernGFX2 жыл бұрын
That would be amazing! Blender is still a tiny download as well. Nomad has an outstanding realtime render engine that is like Eevee so that would be an issue

Fantastic vid! I grew up with box modelling first in 3dsMax and then Maya. I’ve always wanted the split loop tool (I use that to death in Maya), and have actual vertices we can select and move….od]r the ability to extrude fades etc. Maybe that will turn up in a future update of Nomad 😉 Thanks for sharing this vid, atleast we have a ‘sort of’ low poly modelling option available….not perfect but better than nothing!
@SouthernGFX3 жыл бұрын
Yeah same here. I started with 3DS in ‘91 and then Maya around 1997 (Maya power animator I think) and as soon as sub D arrived I was hooked. Right up until ZBrush knocked me off track in ‘99 lol

fantastic! this is super useful. Now if only we could paint texture in on these low poly models easily. Do you think the procreate 3d preview system might work hand in hand with this at some point? I haven't messed with it yet.

We don't have a decent low poly modelling tool on the Ipad yet. Gravity sketch is a fantastic piece of software on the iPad but it doesn't give us the standard poly tools we would need. This video doesn’t give you a perfect answer but it will help you if you want to manipulate points on a primitive shape. I think the company that gives us a range of polygonal modelling tools like cut, split, extrude, weld etc. will be onto a goldmine. For now, if you need those tools for free then Blender is your answer but that's just a desktop program. Sadly.
@azzart9793 жыл бұрын
I was wondering... What about Gravity Sketch in VR? I still have to understand if it's a good option to do some basic mesh modelling the old school way. I've seen a couple videos of yours and it seemed a great tool for someone like me who the last 3D software I used was 3ds Max 6. 🤔
@SouthernGFX3 жыл бұрын
@@azzart979 yeah it’s still amazing for sub d modeling in VR. In fact, it’s the only one I know of in VR. Im just working on a course
@azzart9793 жыл бұрын
So this means I'll have to buy TWO courses instead of one. 😃 Jokes aside, I really have to thank you personally: it's thanks to you I decided I wanted to get back into 3D after a good 15 years being a 2D professional only. So much to learn again.
@SouthernGFX3 жыл бұрын
@@azzart979 it’s a different world from 15 years ago now. The cross overs between 2D and 3D are huge. Blender has changed things in so many ways with tools like grease pencil and of course, since the big push in 2016, VR has grown into a whole new sector for us artists. The ipad is just an extension of this and having 3D tools available at this level on a mobile device is just incredible.
@azzart9792 жыл бұрын
@@SouthernGFX yeah, the more I research the more I’m seeing a lot of potential things that can make life easier for a 3D artist nowadays. On the iPad for instance Procreate 5.2 is coming with some basic realtime 3D painting feature that can become useful for texturing a model. Nomad you already demonstrated it’s a fantastic tool for sculpting. Gravity Sketch instead I’m not sure if it has mesh/subD modeling the ipad version? I remember trying Blender back then when I was working in 3DS Max or Lightwave and it was an absolute nightmare! Now instead from what I got reading and watching videos on youtube it’s become a dream software for 3D modeling: anything I can think of? It’s there! 😀 Personally I want to focus in the future into modeling, texturing, developing, etc. for VR/AR. I think it’s going to have a huge explosion in the future now that Facebook has fully disclosed its plans. We’ll see what Apple has to say in that regard.

You’re amazing! Thank you for all the tutorials. However, I do have a question if you don’t mind answering. I’m fairly new at this but you’ve given me enough that I can sculpt on my own now. When I work in low poly, the symmetry is not alway the same on both sides. Nomad tend to bend or fold the angels differently from one side to the other. Are my pref. wrong? Have you ever noticed that? Thank you!
@AScribblingTurtle2 жыл бұрын
Doing lowpoly modeling in a sculpt program is like hammering a nail with screwdriver. You can do it, but it will take way longer. 😜 But seriously. This is an awesome demonstration of how all of this works. 7:00 "Verto Studio 3D" could be an option. But the UI is very clunky and it feels a bit like a "HobbyDev" project. 19:19 Clean topology and "all quad" topology are honestly overrated. What ever works, works.
@SouthernGFX2 жыл бұрын
Agree on most of your points. This is a mile away from even the most basic polygon modeler. The point really is that is all works in the same way and with the addition of very few tools we could get something along the lines of what we all want. Even with just a way to select and manipulate components (very, edge and face), and extrude function on those components and a cut tool this would be a breakthrough on the iPad. -agree on veto. Potential but unusable just now -clean topo comment I disagree. For hobbyist who won't animate or for 3D printing I agree. In a production environment I insist on it. I get so many problems deep into a pipeline when artists have left bad topology in a model (I don't mean for game). Tris don't worry me as much as they used to as long as they are used on flat areas of hidden. The predictability of a quad based mesh in a sub D workflow is essential. It drives good edge flow, good UV’s, predictable across multiple 3D programs etc. I don't hire people who can't demonstrate why good topology is essential.
@AScribblingTurtle2 жыл бұрын
@@SouthernGFX @SouthernGFX Agreed. For animation You should keep the topo clean 🙂. After all, you dont know in what shape your model will end up in. I'm more on the still render and game dev side, where low poly counts usually matter more. I mean look at the top of the cylinder and how many Polys you need there, just to close the flat area with "all quad" topology.
