A Little Princess is so amazing. I discovered it through the movie when I was young, and it honestly opened something in me and my love for magical realism (in the movie), because it's such a beautiful figurative way to show hope and opportunities. I love the way the book presented kindness and creativity as a goal and not just a mean to an end, it's just so beautiful

So many amazing recs! Personally, Anna Karenina is next on my tbr and one of my suggestions for you is Fathers and Sons (also translated as Fathers and Children) written by Ivan Turgenev, another Russian classic with wonderful descriptions of winter landscapes and an amazing narrative overall. Also on the topic of Tolstoy, The Kreutzer Sonata is one of my faves, especially if you listen to Beethoven's Sonata with the same name. Great video as always, take care, Emma!

I just finished reading The Enchanted Sonata today! It's every bit as charming, whimsical, and funny as Entwined! I think she managed to capture the magic of Tchaikovsky's music beautifully. There was also the tiniest essence of Phantom of the Opera in it near the end, which made me grin like a fool. I don't think it's as polished as Entwined, but still just as enjoyable. I think you'll like it.

Have you read Hiddensee by Gregory Maguire? It's the origin story of The Nutcracker. Spinning Silver by Noami Novik also has a Russian inspired setting and is a retelling of Rumplestiltskin, though I'd say loosely retells it. I still haven't read it, but I want to read A Little Princess but I have seen the 90s movie. I think the Shirley Temple is closer to the novel, but I haven't seen that one I've just heard a little about it. Blood Spell sounds interesting

Not winter specific but PLEASE check out The City of Dreaming Books by Walter Moers!!! It is an absolute adventure. I read it for the first time this summer and it shot up to the top of my favorite books. It’s part of a series technically but they do not need to be read in order from what I’ve seen. I can’t wait to dive into the rest of his books.

I think this book is right up your alley: A Very Russian Christmas: The Greatest Russian Holiday Stories of All Time. It includes stories by Chekhov, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy and lesser known Russian authors. It should still be available. Speaking of Russian music to listen to during the holidays, try the opera "Christmas Eve" by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. It's based on a story by Gogol. Even if you don't know what they're singing about, the music is just gorgeous and Russian and wintry. I love your videos. Your sweet, calm manner really helps me destress after a gnarly day.

hello dearest, it's been almost a month since i started watching your videos. one of my three closest friends (who happens to be a guy) recommended me your channel last month when he found me in a post-breakup, burnt out slump. i think the first video i saw of yours was the one where you pick dandelions by yourself and make tea. that was the first day of the what i call "the emma founding week" as the whole week i proceeded to watch all of your videos and let you stay warm and cozy in my brain rent free. anyways, the reason i'm writing this short letter to you is because i reconnected with an old friend after a long time. she told me she bought about 6 of bathandbodyworks body mists on the cyber monday sale and told me to check if i liked any so that the next time any sale is going on, she'd let me know. but instead of perfumes, i thought i should buy more books even though i have my uni admission tests coming up only a month later (till 12th grade i studied science but much to my parents' dismay and my own joy, i want to major in english in uni). so i began researching books to buy. i am a huge fan of 'after dark' by haruki murakami (this was another reason i fell in love with you because one night in "the emma founding week" i stumbled upon the video where you talk about after dark and that was the first time i met someone who loved the books as much as i did) so i began searching for contemporary lit books but in the end the one book that had me in pieces was "the unabridged journals of sylvia plath". the boos is more than 700 pages long and is quite pricey too. even though i have the pdf downloaded, i can never get used to reading books on my phone. so i thought i'd ask you if the book was worth buying or not. have you read this book, emma? if you haven't, i think we both should start reading this anyways. lots and lots and lots of warmhearted hugs and peppermint hot chocolates for you. have a great holiday season, love, aditi.
