I would recommend SEPTEMBER by Rosamunde Pilcher. Louisa May Alcott wrote many good books for girls. Under The Lilacs, Eight Cousins,An Old Fashioned Thanksgiving, etc. Little Women my all time favorite since 12 yrs. old. Jo's Boys, The Scrapbook to name a few more. I don't see how ANY child could read Larkrise To Candleford on their own. Would have to be read to, but upper-elementary; my opinion. Thanks🙂

@@eileennielsen5165 Thank you. I have enjoyed many of those Alcott novels. I chose this one because of the time of year. I also don’t think a child could read Larkrise on their own, but I think it would make a wonderful read aloud if a parent would like to read it to their child.

Some very cozy reads, indeed! An Old Fashioned Girl is near and dear to my heart because I read it with my great aunt Mum when I was a child and we shared a bedroom and had a hot plate and made tea in the bedroom at night and she gave me her copies of that and Under the Lilacs. This was in the 1970’s!

Great recommendations! I wondered if you watched the movie for "Babette's Feast" - if you haven't, I highly recommend it. They did such a great job of adapting the book, and it is nice to see everything play out on screen - especially since so much of it is related to food.
