Hi Sue! Old Curiosity Shop is one of his first (maybe fourth or fifth) and has a similar feel to A Christmas Carol's message about how love transcends the despair of poverty, and how graciously unburdening those you can with what you have available is the best part of humanity. Very excited for all my Nonfiction reads!!

The history of the wolrd in 500 walks sounds so interesting! And it's such a good idea to have a book about food for the theme 'join' it truly is joining ingredients and flavours and if you eat as a family too! I just read a short story by Gabrielle Roy, I need to pick up more! And to be fair The Tin Flute is depressing, it's one of these we have to read when you're from Quebec and I thought I didn't like Roy's writing for that reason!
@novelideea2 ай бұрын
@@hasteyebooks I’m really thankful Tin Flute wasn’t my introduction to Roy. I’ve liked everything else I’ve read by her more than I liked TF. Cannot wait to read (and cook) from the cookbook! I’m hopeful the “Walks” will be fascinating. It’s beautifully produced but I’ve read some other Baxter’s that have fallen flat in the writing.

And that is it. A pretty diverse group I think.

@@novelideea thanks, I hope to read some of them. I never read all of my TBRs. I just don't have the time, sadly. I do hope to read Secrets of the Code, it seems to be a balanced book about the Da Vinci Code, not blasting it but looking at it fairly. I have never understood some of the craziness about it, it is a fictional book and clearly shows that all over. He gives the information of the real history at the end of the book. I have read other Historical Fiction like that and people did not go so over the line. So I hope this book will clarify some stuff for me.
