@Anndreya053 ай бұрын
If you play on PC, you can use the TimeSpeed mod to make the time pass slower, giving more time in the day to do everything you want and also relax. Also try to remember that there are no consequences if you don't do something in your first or second or third year because everything will happen again in following years and you can take as much as you need/want to progress. I also get stressed by how fast the time moves and these two things have massively helped and turned the game into one of my favorites!

@@aicy69 as a player with 2500 hours, i hate this take so much. after 10+ times playing through a game completely vanilla, im gonna mod it to make it less stale and so i dont have to do the mundane shit ive already spent 100+ hours of my life doing. without modding my playtime for most of my games would be cut in half. if you dont like modding thats perfectly fine, but me modding my single player game doesnt effect you, and if certain mods increase my enjoyment of a game and the games longevity for me whats the issue? its my product i bought as a consumer, i can do whatever i want with said product. notice how most 5 year old+ single player games that are still very relevant has a huge modding scene? now correlation isnt causation but thats a lot of correlation with stuff like minecraft, terraria, skyrim, stardew, gta, etc. modding only does good for games and gamers. a shit ton of games are just straight unplayable without mods on pc. whether they're just old or got a shitty port, i HAVE to mod them to play as originally intended, whether its restoring music or cars that were removed post release bc some corporate overlords at a publisher decided it wasnt worth negotiating for preservation, or simply making the game playable with bug fixes because the port was shitty, i would not get the original experience without mods. in that case im modding to restore the developers original vision. is that cheating and ruining the game? would making it so i can just play bloodborne at 60fps because it was capped at 30 fps on the ps4 and sony refuses to acknowledge its existence and didnt give it a 60 fps patch for the ps5 cheating and ruining the experience? you can mod games however you want to, if you cant resist adding a mod for cheating or that "ruins the game forever" for you (whatever that means), thats on you, and you can simply remove the mod. i take a vanilla+ approach, and i can still play and enjoy all of my games vanilla like i did before modding them, and if i cant i think thats just saying something about the original game (skyrim). modding gives me a customizable experience, i bought a pc so i can customize my experience, im gonna customize my experience, and if you dont want to thats obviously okay but respectfully fuck off with that "oH mY gOd yOUrE rUInInG tHe gAmE ChEaTEr" bs. ill enjoy my game the way i like it, you'll enjoy your game the way you like it, and the devs will still get their money and art appreciated

The problem I have with trying to define "cozy" as a genre is people are throwing anything with a cute art style as cozy. I've seen cozy game youtubers talk about fast paced platformers as cozy because it had a cute art style. I kinda like the term chill, cus there are a lot of games that are super chill and not stressful that don't have the cute art style so don't get lumped in with cozy. Like snowrunners or Power wash simulator. but overall I do love a no stress game to play to decompress or with my gf after a game of sweaty FPS and other action games.

Maaaaaaaaan, I'm 38 years old and am just now learning this exact same thing. I started playing CS 1.6 back in the late 90s and have been competitive gaming only up until the last couple years. I'm finally loving playing some chill single player games where I can just shut my brain off.

@@Angyl never tried either, but cut my teeth in Minecraft's redstone, RTS and 4X games so the general concept should still apply here: Factorio is not your typical cozy game, it's more of a brainy-cozy game. The endgame of a veteran will absolutely look bonkers for a beginner. Buuut the early game mechanics should be relatively beginner friendly. Just don't stress it, go in blind be open to learn and have fun. DON'T look up guides! Half the fun is discovering the mechanics, and feeling clever when you manage to rewire your builds and conveyor belts in a more efficient way. It's not a competitive game, don't try to study and master the meta early, you will only get information overload and burnout from that. If you already have a solid foundation, still find it fun, but feel like plateuing in your knowledge, then it's a good time to look up pro tips. But start blind, that discovery at the beginning is one of the best parts in brainy games, and figuring out the lessons on your own helps the most improving your logic for IRL general application. Also with your background in competitive shooters, I may recommend The Riftbreaker first. Has some Factorio aspects but not as complex with gorgeous graphics and combat. You are a scientist in a mechasuit teleporter into a hostile alien planet with the goal of establishing a research outpost and a permanent rift gate for colonization. Mine, collect resources, build factories and towers to fend off the wildlife. Diablo-like ARPG camera angle with both building and combat, fun stuff. Can be pretty cozy if you hunker up in your base, build and push the tech-tree. But can be pretty intense if you push the campaign objectives and go out exploring the wilds with underlevelled gear.

Until Then is my comfort game. The best way to describe it is the Spec Ops: The Line of cozy games. It starts off as some copy paste quirky cozy indie slop and then out of nowhere becomes a really intense psychological thriller. It sounds lame but it's incredibly character driven so you end up caring for the characters way too much bc they are very well written, and you will be leaved depressed during you playthrough bc they suffer the worst fates.

I (a 54 year old dude) once sat in a streetcar / tram, playing "Animal Crossing" on my Switch. A weird dude walks up from behind, glances at my screen, and then starts mocking me for playing a kids game, and how I should at least play a "real" game... I'm not sure if he was drunk or on drugs, so beyond responding that I don't need anyone telling me what I can or can't play, I didn't engage any further.... but it struck me that it's weird how non-gamers see videogames overall as a childish thing, but also among gamers, there are some who think that a certain type of game is childish. This all brought me to a fundamental conclusion: People are stupid.

literally thank you for making a video about this because i noticed this phenomenon of gender roles in videogame genres which is such an interesting topic to talk about (also love the lil visual gags theyre so cute)
@haruhirogrimgar6047 Жыл бұрын
He didn't talk about gender roles or their history in gaming at all though. As a guy who grew up playing a lot of Harvest Moon, Just Dance, and other games targeted at a female audience. There was a disconnect when I started to play competitive games with other guys. And especially now where I play mostly social sims and find violence in games relatively mundane. There is a *very* noticeable gender gap in gaming between pro-social experiences being popular with women, and male gamers tending to shun any game that isn't violent or competitive. There is a lot to talk about here and interesting studies + data, but this video was just a guy talking about trying a new genre.

@@haruhirogrimgar6047I really want to see the people who call Just Dance a female game, because good lord are they delusional ☠️ since when did dancing become a women only thing? I really don't like assuming things, but in that case I'll do it once: Those are 100% mf's who can't dance and cope by saying, it's a game for women.

I remember being equally as excited for Doom Eternal and Animal Crossing when they released around the same time, and played and enjoyed them both. I’ve been playing shooters since playing Wolfenstein 3D as a kid around the time of release, and I’ve also put hundreds of hours into Stardew Valley. I think it shows that we guys can enjoy competition and violence and still appreciate games about creativity, growing a community, nurturing etc.

I feel like rust use to be like this back in 2016, Cosy. You could do anything really and not be judged for it. I feel that game is just a plethora of pvp sweatlords that will eventually optimise the fun out of the game not only for themselves but for everybody else. So glad I quit that game around 4 years ago with 3000+ hours

You should try Stardew Valley, it is the best cozy game, the progress on those games comes from expanding the ways you have to make money, sort of. Animal Crossing is a different thing, is too much bound to IRL time and social play. Stardew Valley brings a little bit of RPG elements, harvest moon style, you want to complete some objetives as soon as possible, farm money, but is quite hard to optimize your day, decent deep progression if I can say so.

These games aren't listed as "Cozy" or "Comfort" on Steam. You'll find 90% of these games listed under "casual" and "relaxing." This is just for your reference and anyone else who might want to continue on the cozy game journey.

I recommend looking up and watching some "Wholesome Direct" videos on KZbin. Their channel just shines a spotlight on indie games that are "wholesome" more often than not being "cozy" games. They do an event once or twice a year around the same time that E3 (thankfully gone) used to be where it is just like an hour or two of trailers and dev talks.

For me it was Snowrunner. Yeah id played a little bit of minecraft, but until SR, I never really realized how much nucer it was to just chill with a game rather than frantically running around trying to kill this guy or score that ball. It was a huge change of pace, and surprisingly welcome. Even after i burnt myself out on it, i found my self craving that coziness again, and got back into it. I recently finished Citizen Sleeper, and its in much of a similar vein. Its a choose your own path indie RPG that kind of feels like a slice of life in a Sci-Fi city, with the main quest being "figure out who you are and why you're here, and dont let your owners catch you, because btw youre a robot that went rogue."
