It's complicated. Canada Post only hires casual/temporary employees who need to wait to be made whole. Workers do not have any control over their work hours until they become permanent employees. Seniority rules in CP.

Maybe cut management instead of making cuts to mail carriers that already had more than a 15% cut. Last time management was scolded by arbitrators, and management lied about not delivering all parcels before Christmas and these lies lost them business.

To All Media Organization in Canada . . . . Please ask Canada Post Management The Following 1) Whose Fault is it if Sales Volumes are down for the last few years. 2) Why did Management give themselves Bonuses and Incentives this year if they are are making losses 3) Did they offer Bonuses and Incentives to Union Members 4) Do they say Investments in a new state of the art mail processing plant is part of the loss 5) Do they say that part of the loss is also because they purchased new EV Delivery Van's which are not being used ? Why were they purchased. 6) Is the Management negotiating for 1 year with the Union and allowed the strike to happen in the peak period ? I Urge the All The Canadian Media to push Canada Post Spokesperson to answer these questions. Thank You P.S. Most responses to this post are from Management !!!

@@digginggopher or pressure on the union to stop being greedy when their employer is on the verge of closing operations completely. If the employees are given the 22.5% wage increase plus the other concessions they are requesting, Canada Post will not be around for more than Three years, then there will be at least 55000 people looking for employment as well as the ripple effect to other businesses. Canada post costed us $3 billion in losses over the last few years, yet they want a 28% increase...they cost a fortune in a time when there's plenty of other couriers to choose from most of which are cheaper and faster. People have gone paperless for their bills and hardly anyone mails letters anymore...Soon Doug Ford will draw up a map outlining all the couriers we can use besides them like he did with LCBO. Sorry Canada Post, you've become too expensive, irrelevant and obsolete. I feel for the workers but in all fairness, you have nothing to bargain with here.

Before the internet, everybody would mail in their income tax returns. Now, 85 % of Canadians file their taxes online. Also, people used to mail cheques to make payments. Now, most people pay their bills online. People used to also send letters. Now, people send emails. It sounds like Canada Post will become just a parcel delivery service, like UPS, Fed Ex and Purolator.

I would question the competency of management when they talk about all the financial problems yet continue to pay all of management through these strikes ,thousands of supervisors and superintendents to sit in empty buildings do nothing waiting out the strike with full pay …..if your that broke where are you getting money to pay these people to do nothing …and most of management gets paid more than the front line carriers that Canada post says they can’t afford …most of these supervisors stare at their computer all day or walk around with large coffees while the overpriced letter carrier is doing the real work pounding porches all day …the real enemy is the laziness in all of management ,both in the direction they should have gone a decade ago and also the actual work they do ….i don’t see supervisors getting injured drinking their large coffees sitting down but I know many carriers that break their back for this company …if you think the letter carriers and workers are the problem you have limited insight !

They are outdated, the people are rude, closing their stations 5, 10 minutes earlier than their official work-hours, and I don't know but it sounds their customer service is supplied from India? or from where, but hey are definitely not local. What a bull-sh*t claim "we deliver only government checks, and SANTA letters to North Pole". 1st. who still gets government checks through mail? everyone uses DIRECT DEPOSITS these days, even 2nd world war veterans! 2nd. Letters to SANTA? WHY NOT TO THE TOOTH-FAIRY??? is Canada Post serving only 4 years olds? above age 4 no one even believes Santa! WHAT A USELESS COMPANY!!! Keeping Canadian people's mails and parcels on hold, ONLY HURT THE PEOPLE and not the Trudeau government! this ultra liberal government doesn't give a sh*t about the Canadian people, and therefore this government doesn't care about the Canada Post hurting the Canadian people either. IF Canada Post have an argument, disagreement with the government, then why boycotts the people instead boycotting the federal government?! deliver the mails and parcels of the people, and PUT THE GOVERNMENT LETTERS, INCLUDING CHECKS ON HOLD instead! But as I said, everyone these days use direct deposits, including very old people, no one gets government checks through mail anymore. But Canada Post boycotting the people, whom abut this government doesn't care (the 2 years lock-down is the proof for that), but STILL DELIVERS government issued postage from the very government they supposed to having fight over higher pay! go figure! Did you notice that every single Canada Post strike is carefully scheduled for Christmas / New Years time!!! it only hurts the people and not the federal government, the very federal government who doesn't even allow anymore in public spaces to say "Merry Christmas"!, it deemed that greeting racist, insensitive, offensive, etc. etc. etc. And now Canada Post is carrying out a BOYCOTT on CHRISTMAS!!! They should go bankrupt if they can't keep up with the other delivery companies like FedEx, Purolator, Amazon and the rest... Perhaps the long term union employees of 30+ years are holding out for a large severance package to increase their pensions. They are the employees that have always been paid much more than their education & skill level was worth & only worked 0.5 to 0.7 of a day but got paid 100%. My sister brags about being home on a regular basis after 6 hrs of work & getting paid for 7.5 hrs. Cupw workers want to keep that easy gig.

It is, "digitisation"... OR SOMETHING ELSE! How come FedEx, Percolator and the rest doesn't have the same issue as Canada Post. They too deliver letters, not just parcels. And Canada Post too delivers parcels, not just letters. Yet the company still in mess, can't keep up with the other companies! It seems that every other delivery company is just doing fine, except Canada Post. Is it possible that the real problem is something else, other than "digitization"?🤔🤔🤔

But it is essential. Many businesses use Canada Post to deliver merchandise, eg Poshmark, a business that keeps clothes out of the landfill. There is a lot more to this. And $30 an hour is not good enough.

@autumnlover760 If CPC started operating like a business & had cheaper prices than UPS or FedEx, they would be competitive for small business. Clothes could be kept out of the landfill by selling them on localFB Marketplace or local Consignment Stores or donating them to Thrift Stores & to local Buy Nothing Groups. Companies like "P'Mark" contribute to environmental issues by transporting clothes around the country & burning fossil fuels. P'Mark also is not local unless you live in Redwood, CA, Vancouver, Melbourne & Chennai India. CPC is not essential & P'Mark isn't local for most people.

The operation for courier as Canada Post ( government delivery organization ), basically involve 3 parts , the superior is Civic/customer , then the lower parties,Company and Worker union . If the strike as 2018 , rotation strike , the civic / customer affection were small , so we didn’t care the strike . But the strike in this time , these two lower parties compete for own gain profit to hurt and sacrifice the superior part, civic/customer . So we must fire the Canada Post Company and worker union . All customers and civics who have parcels are processing in the facility of Canada post make “class action” to lawsuit Canada Post for missing delivery promise

They can't, it's prohibited by NAFTA. See UPS v. Government of Camada, for as long as Canada Post competes in the parcel market, the government can't give them a nickel because it would be an "unfair subsidy" to a state owned enterprise competing with private enterprises from the US covered in that section of NAFTA/USMCA

. The union is the problem. Alot of workers want to return.. If was a rotating strike, at least some backlog would be cleared. It will take weeks...months even if they start up during holiday season... Theyll be swamped and thats where being organised comes in. Not 1 pkg in last 3 yrs ive gotten came on time...even some said pkg delivered and no sign of them...sadly now...lots of parcel options...might pay bit more...but when they say will deliver by noon tomorrow...its there...when you have a canada post issue...takes hrs to even speak to someone...its always automated and you never get a straight answer...frustrating is all.
