The exams get a refresh every January 1st to reflect the current calendar year's code sets. So, even though ICD-10-CM codes might update on October 1st, those changes won't show up in the exam until the new year rolls around. 🗓️ Feel free to use last year's books, but just know you might be at a slight disadvantage. For the full scoop, check out AAPC's official guidance: www.aapc.com/certification/faq.aspx " What year's books should I use? All AAPC exams are based on the current calendar year’s code sets, so we strongly suggest you use the current year’s books. The previous calendar year’s books may be used on an exam, but you would be at obvious disadvantage doing so. The upcoming year’s books are not allowed for exam use. The exams are updated every January for the new code sets."

Hi, do you recommend reading the entire question first? Or look up the codes first? Also when do you recommend looking in index for a code than just jumping to the code it self? How hard do you think this test would be for an experienced nurse with no coding background? Is self teaching do-able?

As an experienced nurse, you'll already have a strong foundation in medical terminology and patient care, which can definitely help with coding. However, medical coding has its own set of complex rules and guidelines, so it can still be challenging without proper training. While self-teaching is possible, enrolling in a structured course is highly recommended to ensure you're well-prepared for the exam.

Anyone know if the Preppy course has actual good helpful lectures? My friend and I are absolutely BUMMED trying to do the CPC prep course through the local university only to find out their "lectures" are 5-7 minutes long, 10 years old, and leave us more confused than without it, which sucks since books aren't included, CEUs aren't included, exam attempts aren't included, and we receive little to no help from the instructor. We finally got to the coding part of the class with using the guidelines and we are so confused
