@@peevmania Hi Jeff, thanks for your reply to my son Joel. Yes his mom and I loved that album. We were playing it so much just before and after Joel was born. The album was released late June 1998 and Joel was born on August 14 (same b-day as Crosby) 1998. So that album will always remind us of those special times and Joel`s birth. We also loved the 2nd album, Just Like Gravity released 2001 the same year my daughter Grace was born, although released a few months after. We were playing that album a lot during mid 2001, so during 9/11. It kind of helped us through that. The song in particular that moved us the most at that time was GONE FOREVER, a beautiful song. That song seemed like it was about 9/11, even though it was written before 9/11. It was somehow related like it had been a premonition! Hard to explain but it felt so appropriate. I had to tell you about that. Love your guitar playing, especially on that album. Saw you play live with CPR at the Memorial Hall in Plymouth, MA (maybe 2003-2004)... outstanding show. I'd like to think that we we're all are connected to that higher power, some of us aren't connect to themselves to hear it or feel it ...and when we were playing this music I believe that it came from a force much bigger than us...you can call it God or Buddah or LOVE or Jesus or inspiration or whatever you want to call it or try to put a definition to it. At a certain point I just try to get out of the way and let IT come though ...so whatever word you wanna call this higher power...I dont feel the need to try to define it, necessarily...I just respect it and love the idea of being a channel for it. Does it come from GOD? maybe....and if so in reality then we are all God. but your comment is very sweet. thank you for affirmation of something I've worked at my whole life...the fact that it connects with anyone, makes me feel like I accomplished something more than my own goals of evolving my craft and my artistry. To be of inspiration to others is a huge honor. So thank you Marc.

I had a horrible experience with David Crosby at Steven Still’s house in 1968 right after thy gave a concert at the Greek theatre. I’ve never forgotten the incident. I was sitting on the floor with some friends, leaning against the wall, when suddenly Crosby appeared right in front of me, arms folded truculently, his shoes right against my legs, glaring down at me. I had never met him and had no idea what motivated his obviously aggressive and completely out of the blue behavior. I didn’t want to get in a fist fight with Crosby, even if he was being a asshole. I was a guest. So I just looked down at the floor until he finally walked away. But I’ve always wondered why he did that and why he picked me. As I said, I had never had any contact at all with Crosby before that moment.

A child's playground tit for tat setup here to illicit an abrasive response from a long deceased rock icon!? Could the finished product be anything but skin crawl embarrassing!? "Morrison", to me, is how absolutely rock bottom David Crosby could go in his occasional efforts to stir controversy through his art. The far more "Southern gentlemanly" Jim would never have provided a "tat" anyway, leaving only one person looking like a tit. That said, David and the rest of The Byrds left us with a treasure of some of the greatest American popular music ever created. And for that, sir, we, and a good portion of the world, are deeply appreciative. May your current travels be of unending interest and value to you.
@peevmania Жыл бұрын
Interesting comments. Well, the music for Morrison was composed by David's son James, and the lyrics were Davids and we arranged the tune together. As it was the first piece of music the two of them wrote together when they met, David didn't know he had a son until James was in his 30s, this song holds a special place for a lot of people. As for David's decision to express his art though lyric, an artist most certainly has the right to use their craft to express whatever they want. The difference here is, David knew Jim and my guess is maybe you didn't. Apart of the iconic work of Jim and David has left behind (I love both of their stuff personally) since David had interactions with Jim, from the story the song tells, obviously things didn't go well. Sh*t happens! David decided to write a song about it and it's his expression. I love the tune myself (although I played guitar on it and it was our first single that had airplay for CPR) and well, everyone has a right to their feelings. I respect yours. A lot of people love the tune so there ya go. Thanks for sharing. Be well.

@@peevmania Hi Jeff, thanks for taking the time. First, my voice joins the growing chorus of people, composed of a good percentage of guitar players I'm sure, who will hear you and acknowledge you to be an elite guitar player. And for me, as someone who tried his hand at the instrument maybe a couple of hundred times and lost the battle to frustration each time, I'm particularly impressed by what must be thousands, (maybe many hundreds of hours??) of practice that you've put into honing your skills. So, much respect to you. As to David and his son, I'd have thought their first meeting after so many years, a monumentally life changing event for both, and to discover, as David said, his son was a far better musician than the old man, would've resulted in a first musical collaboration that had nothing to do with a guy who was looking for "a lucky little lady in a city if light, " way, way back when. But my opinion of the song aside, David Crosby was a music hero of mine, one of the earliest. I had a brief conversation with him in London many years ago. He was on a promotional tour for an album and what I remember most is the exuberance and pride he expressed for the music he'd just made. In one of his last interview he talked in that same way about the joy he felt about simply creating music and singing. I will always think of him as the greatest high harmony singer I've ever heard and a helluva lead vocalist as well. My condolences to you and that small group of musicians Crosby regularly worked with in the later years of his life. Your collective talents and enthusiasm played no small part in extending his years of creativity, and productivity l'm sure. And to you, sir, I wish you many years of great music endeavors ahead. Work that will fully challenge and showcase your superb guitar skills. Peace.
