CPR Thru The Music is a documentary about CPR (David Crosby, Jeff Pevar & James Raymond) documenting the debut of David Crosby's band, featuring David's son, James Raymond on keyboards & vocals, Jeff Pevar on guitars & vocals, Steve DiStanislao on drums & vocals and Andrew Ford on bass, performing selections from their debut CD at the Montreux Jazz Festival on July 14th, 1998. Interviews were recorded at Jackson Browne's Groovemaster Studios in Los Angeles. This film was originally assembled to promote David Crosby's CPR ensemble by Samson Records, the company that originally signed the band and released the initial recordings of CPR. The first two CPR studio CD's have more recently been re-released on BMG records. .

I have been crying since David’s death. I so admire how he turned his life around, attempted to make amends and continued to create incredible music. What a wonderful human being! I know there are some who would disagree, but he did exactly what we’re supposed to do in life and succeeded. He emerged from the flames and found his way back to the light.

There are lots of different kinds of love in this world, but nothing quite as unique as the love between two performing artists in a band. Look at how David's eyes light up when Jeff plays a tasty lick! The Peev is an absolutely incredible talent!

2001, Lucca - Italy: I attended a CPR gig by chance, not knowing what to expect. Of course I knew David Crosby and CSNY, but never heard of this project before. You guys blew me away and you, Jeff, instantly became my favourite guitarist. From then on, whenever you came to play Italy I was there. David loss is a tough one to bear with. But the music remains as well as the feeling of being the luckiest audience on earth. Thank you Jeff for this gem.

Great band!!! I loved these songs and the bands. It continues to be one of the musical highlights on the last 25 years. Thank you, Jeff, James and Andrew for working with Croz to make this great music that I have enjoyed all these years. It is wonderful to see a video of the band at their apex. I kept looking for concerts in the Detroit area at the time, but it never happened. I have looked forever for a music book with the songs from the first CPR album. That never happened either Jeff -- this is a special treat. David's passing hit me and I saw him, but never met him. The wonderful thing is you can think back to your legacy of helping him launch into some of the best music in his life at a time when most people stop. It is a gift to all of us. I wish there was a good way to pay you back!!!!

Im so very grateful to be a piece of it..

Everything…I mean Everything there is breathtaking to me…not the least of which the expression on David’s face as he savors every note of his son James’ magnificent piano performance …(that DNA thing is no bullshit!)For me, a lifelong devotee of David, Joni…alternate tunings…etc, CPR rose to the top of my list. I’m SO glad I got to see you all in Burlington VT a few years ago. I am grateful for the complete Gift of CPR. Thanks Jeff. Thanks so much for posting this, Jeff. I've been a fan of David Crosby's going back to the early 1970s and was lucky enough to see him maybe 20 times in just about all of the various musical permutations he explored with CSNY and others. I got to see him a couple of times with you and James Raymond as CPR, and I'm not sure he ever looked happier. It was so great to see his story evolve and to watch him turn his life around as he did. What a marvelous story of what's possible.

i like how David and James tell the story of how they came together. I had always wondered about how it all went down, as I hadn't really heard anything about it at the time. Other than that they had managed to connect with each other, and they learned that they both played music. And you, Jeff, got to be right in the middle of it. Must have been sweet. Sounds like there was a unique kind of magic, which you can tell from both how you all recount CPR coming together, but also in the music as well - you can hear it. So glad you posted this. Brings back a lot of memories of being at a few CPR shows back then and the great music that was emanating from that time. Already a quarter century ago. Unbelievable.I like the Little Blind Fish Story. I remember when you played that in that wild acoustic show in that upstate (to me) CT deli circa 2008 or 9. Ironic how Croz & Nash decided they'd "steal" you from Marc Cohn, as David Gilmour turned around & stole Stevie D from Croz & Nash.

Actually we blew each other’s minds with the music that we 3 wrote, produced and arranged together which is why David wanted our name to reflect the collaborative aspect of our project. I had been playing music with David for about five or six years before either of us met Davids son, James Raymond. It was a combination of this incredible reunion between father and son and the overflowing musical chemistry between the three of us that inspired this collaboration on our two CPR studio records and the two CPR live records that documented an important piece of our musical history. James and David continued further with the records that followed,as well as the incredible LightHouse Band. I am in much gratitude to be a collaborator for our beautiful CPR records and the tours that we offered out to fans and friends for the years that CPR was in existence and being a part of the incredible legacy of David Crosby’s incredible body of work.

Thank you David for all the music you gave us 🎸🙏 I was allowed to see you many times with The Byrds, CSN, CSNY, Crosby & Nash and CPR. As to the latter CPR, only saw this musical ensemble once in Northampton, Massachusetts on 03/16/03. It was a special evening indeed, an upbeat almost dare I say it, Calypso style version of 'Triad", 'Almost Cut My Hair' was a show - stopper, as was an unexpected 'So You Want To Be A Rock And Roll Star'(played on a great sounding cherry red Guild electric 12 - string) And a GREAT version of as David said that night, "We play this song to remember...." and the song was indeed, 'OHIO'! It was made even more special because outside in the cold air of Northampton was a Candlelight - Virgil for Peace. The evening of many great songs brought back memories, thank you David, Jeff and Raymond. And again thank you David, having you in life, pluses and minuses abound made my trip in life to date an educated, memorable and uplifting experience. 🙏....."If I Could Only Remember My Name" ✌️

It does and it doesn't sound like CSN, I think. Certainly David as an unmistakeable impact on the sound of this band...but there are numerous examples of complex harmony in chordal tensions that were not really visited by CSN and we owe a lot of that to the incredible contribution of the melding of the songwriting and musical influences by this particular combination, IMHO. Every combination produces as unique sound and this is no exception. (Sounding like CSN is, of course, flattering but I feel there is/was something unique here as well

From the CPR Wikipedia page: "Following another studio album, Just Like Gravity, in 2001, and several successful tours, the group disbanded in 2004. In addition to continuing to perform with his father as part of the touring bands for Crosby & Nash and Crosby, Stills & Nash, Raymond has served as musical director and session player for most of Crosby's ensuing solo output and related tours, including Croz (2014) and Sky Trails (2017). From 2004 to 2005, Pevar was a member of the Crosby, Stills & Nash touring band alongside Raymond. Pevar's only solo album to date (2012's From the Core) was recorded in the Oregon Caves National Monument. In 2017, following session work on Sky Trails, Pevar and Raymond toured together once again with drummer Stevie DiStanislao, keyboardist/vocalist Michelle Willis, and bassist Mai Agan as Crosby's backing group, the tour credited to David Crosby & Friends. That same lineup toured again in 2019 as David Crosby & the Sky Trails Band. In 2020 both studio albums, CPR and Just Like Gravity, were reissued by the BMG label. In 2021, both live albums will be reissued as well. "
