Great video, course made it to the end. People may hate on the snap-on, but I'm convinced none of them have ever bought one or used one. They may lie and say they have, but we know that's not true or they would know the difference. To me companies like GearWrench, icon or tekton get about 90% of the way there. But that extra 10% with the tool truck ratchets really makes a difference for some of us
@chefshadetree3972
@chefshadetree3972 Жыл бұрын
In my case the first part of your statement is false. I'm going to hate on Snap-on only because they have priced themselves out of my budget. Not going to hate on them because of the tools themselves, I do own some and grew up using Snap-on tools. My pocketbook only allows me to get the absolute best tools I can get for the money I have. And I don't buy much HF stuff either. So I know a little bit about tools in my 40 years of experience.
@zachp1604
@zachp1604 Жыл бұрын
@@chefshadetree3972 everyone's pocket book only allows for that. I don't have a bunch of snap on for the same reason. However, that's not their fault. So I see no reason to hate. I personally only see a few reasons to hate tool companies and that is for blatant intellectual theft. Zero effort to do their own research or designs. Or for outsourcing to China without any effort to do otherwise. You see companies like tekton trying very hard to source as much american stuff as they can. Harbor freight doesn't give a single shit, seems like GearWrench either.

Good Evening All: CP, you hit the nail on the head again sir. 👍 MY first exposure was when I started turning wrenches 🔧 & it was SK. I bout a full 3/8 drive set when I was 8 years old. I can still hear my father calling me an asshole 😒. The 2 ratchets that failed & the SK that caused my an injury & a CRAPSMAN. The Sk got replaced with no problem but CRAPSMAN really gave me a super hard time. I have 1 MAC ratchet that I bought back in 1985 & haven't been on a MAC truck since cause there are none in my area. When you have a certain feel for the mechanism you also feel the fastener. Many have told me I'm full of it but it's true ,& that's OK. My favorite is my Snap On ratchets. I know the feel, the application where I'm going to use it, but if we encounter a tough fastener I break out the air tools. Snap On is expensive & maybe you think I'm a SNOB but they perform for me, they don't fail, & it makes me money safely. What more is there to know 🤔. Cp great video, TMP from N.J.

I need to order a couple of Koken ratchets, I had ordered a couple but it seems some fedex guy wanted them more than I did. I do have a few Nepros and they are more than excellent aside from being a little taller profile. I do have a large amount of inexpensive ratchets, probably half of them. It’s surprising how well some of them hold up as those are the ones I allow the other guys to grab. I still police them up at the end of the day, they go back in the box clean and dry. Thinking about going on the hunt for some Proto ratchets and some American made Cornwell. The latter’s days are numbered for sure so I’ve got to find them in low and high tooth count. My long distance independent tool truck guy used to be with Cornwell so I’m hoping he has a few stashed somewhere along with an SAE Wrench set. When I get out from under this recent Vacation plus the annual Taxes, Insurance and Home expenses, I want to do a video on some Williams USA stuff. Few people know that for a few bucks more or less in a lot of cases than Taiwanese stuff, you can have Snap On quality and smoothness in lower tooth counts.

A study was done a few years ago with professional techs about their tools, box's, training, etc. In that study they found that the average Tech owned 18 ratchets. Personally I feel that number is low but that's what it found. I past 18 many years ago and the only non American made is a Koken and a Nepros. Thanks for calling out the flex head vs fixed head strength testing. Might as well be shocked when a 1/2 inch outperforms a 1/4 inch, doesn't make much sense. But if you are biased against a particular brand then that's what you do I guess. Thanks again brother for another great video.

I have 2 ko-ken and 3 Nepros ratchets that I pick up 99% of the time. Not to mention my 2 Snap-on’s, 3 Craftsman’s and 3 Astro Tools ratchets… The only ratchets I regret buying are those husky’s. They have really stiff back drag (even after servicing with superlube oil), the surface finish arrived new with pits and scratches and they all have large-profile pear heads except the standard 1/4”. I felt they weren’t worthy of my toolbox space sitting next to my Japanese ratchets so I have since moved them to the trunk of my car. I don’t typically get rid of tools ever so they will likely be sitting in that car until my death.

And here I was thinking you were a mac guy... lol. I've only ever had and used the old craftsman usa ratchets. Anyways, at least you use your ratchets. Guys have 10k in knives and never even use them. We all have our interests and what we like to spend our money on. That having been said, that is the most Gucci collection of ratchets that actually get used that I've seen on yt. 👌🏽

Tool testers on KZbin put flex heads against fixed heads for the same reason they put heavy duty screwdrivers against regular screwdrivers: they don't know any better. They don't know all the different types and models provided by each brand and so they just pick what they think is right without knowing they're doing an apples to oranges test. It's one of biggest problems with all these online tool tests. The sample selection in tests is not the best.

For the longest time I wouldn't grab my locking snapon flex head due to how easy it would move from the free moving to locked and it would just piss me off but then I did the tool exchange program (if you know you know) with my cornwell flex head so now if I need a longer 3/8s I gotta deal with it

I must be losing the race, I only have five 3/8” drive ratchets😅! I have 3-Carlyle: a stubby fixed-head, a non-locking flex-head with the bent handle, and the regular locking flex-head. A Tekton regular fixed-head with the comfort grip, and a Gearwrench swivel-head ratchet. The Carlyles have gotten the most use and their locking flex-head is my favorite. I even gloat about it some on my itty-bitty channel.
