Thanks for an honest review pointing out issues with scanning larger objects

I also had a fight with the drifting surfaces. I played with light setup and manual exposure settings without success. At least the reason is that the scanner can't find enough orientation points, especially on flat parts of the objects without texture. Anyway, I came here to know if the ferret pro is an improvement compared to my ordinary ferret scanner. It seems the problems I had on special object still the same in the pro edition. My recent scan project is a bread slicer from the 70s named EVA from Denmark, ;-) Greetings anyway to your location.

Hi mate, it is very much object dependant. And some things scan super easy, some others are much harder. I might have also found an impossible one :D I have never tried the Ferret, so I don't know if pro is much different. Have fun with EVA :)

I think the pro version is only improved with their wifi bridge (for mobile operation). the most improvement could (and should) be done on the software side!

@@Rcschim now that I ordered the pro I am able to compare. At least the announcement says that the pro is better on black or shiny surfaces and has an improved anti shake option especially for hand scanning. Anyway 3d scanning does on special objects not work like in the yt commercial spots, but I can proof that the pro does it better on objects that where almost black like old box cameras.

@@matneu27 will be interesting to see if you find a lot of differences on the pro vs the normal version. I still think that the most work here on 3d scanning (like on 3d printing) is on the software side.
@matneu27 Жыл бұрын
@@Rcschim that is true, with the ferret you are also caught in the manufacturer software bubble and can only export the results. I also had to install windows on my Linux only machines to be able to run it. Doesn't work on virtual machines anyway because it is related on a good graphics adapter. But the main work is the post process in blender for example to make the scans able to print.

Hi, yet another thing that we both review ;) got this a few days ago. I heard that pc software is better than mobile app, but actually the android version is not bad. Also even my i9 9900 pc isn’t that much faster than the mobile app? My phone is galaxy s10. So give the phone a try. Phone: I’d love to see if someone can use his phone just with usb connection, for me it connects, but the camera previews don’t start. I guess my phones usb is to slow, so I have to use the complicated solution of using their WiFi 6 bridge… greets, Mario

I got scan from phone transfered to pc no problems via wifi, but I am freeing up space on my iphone 12 to have enough time for a decent scan :) will make another vid with the results :) I like the wifi version as you are free to move away from PC… I think on PC what matters the most is the graphics card. I am using an old Nvidia rtx 2080ti… it works…

@@VRMinde the GPU isn't really used on the PC. if you check taskman and see that the GPU is very low on usage... I use a rtx 3070 at the moment, and while processing this thing doesnt do anything. one time I thought now it's used properly - but it was only OBS encoding the video from my screengrab :) the processing could be 10x faster if they use some GPU cores... I have the feeling, the IOS version is a lot older than the android tho. greets, Mario

The thing is, this 3d scanner is still a hobby not a professional model, this has an accuracy of 0.1 mm a professional like cr-raptor has 0.02mm… soo the tech is there but for a good price
@VRMinde4 ай бұрын
I agree, and it does kind of OK job, especially for the price :)

try einstar, and You will forget about scanning issues
@VRMinde10 ай бұрын
I should. But it is not cheap is it? :)
@uniquedtech25510 ай бұрын
I think now You can buy it for 750eur ut is cheaper that it was, but still top quality scanner
@uniquedtech25510 ай бұрын
from my point of view using diferent scanners below einstar quality is waste of time. You will see that when start using einstar

Or Creality Otter. It can scan black and shiny objects better. But the software of the Einstar is really good. I scanned a transport box this week with the Einstar and I had tracking issues as well. I added a lot of features but in the end I had to use markers for perfect alignment. Ordered a Creality Raptor this week. And I’m excited to see the scan results with this scanner.

Scan without it plugged and then try and connect the phone to the computer ----- IMPOSSIBLE!!!!! IT is impossible to transfer a file from the phone to the computer - point and I see this video doesn't either - they know or were told not transfer from the phone.

I transferred files from my phone to my PC via wifi mate, there was no problem.
