Phillip Pryzmont hasn't been to a city in over 4 years. He spends his winters in Nome, Alaska cutting holes in the thick ice in the Norton Sound on the Bering Sea. Each of these holes contains a large crab pot that he regularly checks for Alaska Red King Crab to feed his family and sell to others.

Looks like hard work. Looks like hard conditions. It also looks like he knows what makes him truly happy, some people never find that.

Your Mom sent me the link to this. We worked together in the LE field for years, John Too. Awesome video. So you are still in Alaska? Wife too?

Good question! Not sure if Phillip will be on KZbin anytime soon to reply but we had to ride out pretty far from Nome on snow machines to reach his pots when filming with him.

I came here in 1990 with the understanding that if I didn't like it, my employer promised to move me back. Well, it's 2022 and I'm still here. I'm getting old and disabled. I may move someplace warmer, but I've no plans to leave yet. I'd still like to live in a small town up here. But im not sure if my body will allow it. Kind of a bummer. I didn't plan on getting an MSSA infection from back surgery...

Sounds like you have a similar origin story as Phil! We hope that Alaska has treated you well.
