Just gonna point this out: Hogwarts CAN'T be found by humans. The same charm put on the Quidich finals is placed on almost all major magical gathering places AND Hogwarts specifically looks like an unsafe, dilapidated ruin, so no one would ever want to enter it. If a muggle gets too close, their subconscious starts to turn them away. Also, there's an entire section of the Ministry of Magic that goes around Men in Black-ing every muggle who comes into contact with magic and they do a MUCH better job at covering it up than MIB. The video was great other than that.

Truman Show was a straight up Horror flick about the publicly staged gaslighting of a studio owned slave for his entire life...
@RobinClower8 жыл бұрын
But that was addressed in the movie quite a bit, people protested against it saying that he was in a prison and tried to let him know/get him out. But yeah, still creepy that most of the world is okay with it.
@Blodhelm8 жыл бұрын
Also felt like the ending was just the beginning. The real world would be horribly strange to Truman and he definitely has a great lawsuit to get on with. With how gritty and unfriendly things would seem, it might be like leaving a vault from the Fallout series XD
@Seriona18 жыл бұрын
Except Truman has no legal grounds. Remember the beginning? The court ruled that corporations could own people. That's why Truman was where he was. After Truman left, he would not have any legal rights.
@Blodhelm8 жыл бұрын
Caesar Seriona However they could very easily challenge the earlier ruling as unconstitutional on the grounds that owning a person is equal to slavery. If their courts are okay with slavery, then his world has a much larger problem in which he could be the revolutionary trying to fix it and that is a movie I'd want to see XD
@Nicolas.Vincent8 жыл бұрын
Essentially, everyone alive in his lifetime in his country would know him, but all he would know is disillusion & deceit. They'd have found his body looted and violated laying face down in a ditch by then. Truman Show II: "In case I don't see ya, Good Night!"
@electricbayonet28 жыл бұрын
Also in Harry Potter, it seems like you can count on one hand the number of wizards/witches who think that nonmagical people have even the most basic human rights. Dunno if it made it into the movies, but I remember the Quidditch World Cup had a normal, nonmagical guy collecting entry fees, and every time he expressed how odd it was whenever some wizard didn't realize that they're supposed to pay with mundane money instead of gold doubloons, a wizard would dash out of the nearby shrubs and wipe the poor sap's memory. Seriously, that shit is disturbing. Why did it need to be a normal person with no knowledge of magic? Why couldn't it just be some wizard teenager getting paid minimum wage? Hell, why couldn't it be the asshole on mind-wiping duty? Because it was very explicitly shown that the repeated mindwipes was having lingering effects on the poor guy. He literally didn't know what *month* it was. What's the backstory there? Does some poor family think that their brother/son/father/whatever relation is suffering from some kind of early-onset dementia?
@electricbayonet28 жыл бұрын
***** I have no goddamn clue. If they absolutely needed to have it there...well, fuck. They're wizards. *Gold coins* are used as normal currency. Just buy the fucking land and be done with it. But instead, they give a man brain damage because...reasons.

The real horror about Harry Potter is that they've had limitless drinkable water for centuries and still let people die of cholera and dysentery, and other such diseases well into the 21st century, just because some jumpy fanatics tried to burn witches in a couple of isolated incidents in the middle ages. The real horror is that thousands of magical incidents which very well could be deadly affect muggles every year and are swept under the rug, their memories of it erased. The real horror is that consent altering "love potions" are sold to minors. The real horror is that despite having alternative sources of energy, the wizards still let the muggles destroy the earth with fossil fuels. And still use slavery well into a technological age where it should have become obsolete. The real horror is that cancer treatment potions weren't disclosed to muggles. The real horror is that tens of millions of people died in concentration camps around the world, or on the battlefield, whereas a couple of imperio curses could have prevented it all, if the wizards had only cared to look outside of their own community. The real horror is that the wizards seldom realize that the muggle's technology has surpassed theirs, and that the muggles have weapons infinitely more powerful than some "elder wand". The real horror is that the world is divided in a curtain of secrecy and hate, instead of being united under one righteous leader who could guarantee the greater good of all humans, end all war, and let science and magic benefit each other. The real horror is that Grindelwald lost and that Dumbledore won.
@6961908 жыл бұрын
(SPOILER ALERT) I may be a little rusty here, but wasnt Grindelwalds end goal similar to Voldemorts, ie wizard supremacy? Would the world be EVEN MORE of a shitstorm of class division and slavery and wanton cruelty if he won?
@GregTom28 жыл бұрын
696190 Well, the above statement about imperio curses being used to prevent war kind of implies wizard supremacy. But it's not a "general wizarding supremacy". It's more like a dictatorial supremacy of Grindelwald over everyone else. As a counter argument, if Grindelwald's goals had been aligned with voldemort's, then why did he resist torture, refuse to disclose the location of the elder wand, and get killed in his cell? Shouldn't that be a hint that he doesn't agree with Voldemort's vision and that he was ready to die for his own vision?
@Zephyr_Zeitgeist8 жыл бұрын
You left off squibs being so disregarded by the wizarding community that Neville's uncle subjected him to two tests, one that could have killed him, and one that definitely would have killed him, to force Neville, a tiny child, to use magic to save himself. Better dead than squib. Denied a Hogwarts education, despite many classes requiring zero magic, including, I will argue, potions, rendering them basically unemployable. Filtch only has his job as groundskeeper of Hogwarts because Dumbledore pity hired him.

Honestly this comment is much more convincing than anything in the video. Lol It really does make you realize how isolationist the wizards are.
@davidunkown19258 жыл бұрын
GregTom2 this comment kind of assumes that wizards are responsible for the world, but theyre not? they have pretty much separated themselves from normal human society and created their own. it'd be like if the amish could supernaturally cure cancer, that doesnt mean they have to travel the world to heal everybody, they'd still be isolationists...

If you're going to bring up anything from Harry Potter in this context, at least mention Dumbledore in passing. His actions have a field of potential interpretations that you just missed out on completely. So much so that he's become one of the most bipolar characters within the fanon, just working off of the books alone. Look at the first scene of the first book. Albus leaves an infant on the doorstep of people who he has been warned of, and who he knows - as he admitted himself later, at the end of the fifth book - who he knows will most likely mistreat the child at best. Not only this, but he does this in the dead of night, within the first few days of November. In Britain. He did not apply any sort of protective magic on the child that night, leaving him to the cold. Or to wake and wander off. Or to be noticed by a passing stranger or a hungry dog. Or to be stepped on by Vernon as he left for work the next day. Think what you will of Albus Dumbledore, but he left a child to die, knowing that if the child survived, he would grow up in a household that would mistreat him. In this context, I don't know how you can reference Harry, who during the instances you mentioned was but a child, but then fail to look into perhaps one of the most well known Harry Potter characters outside of Voldemort and Harry himself. Also, muggle repelling charms are noted multiple times throughout the series, as is the obliviation spell and a departement of the Ministry of Magic that's literally known as the Obliviators, who act much like your Men in Black reference in cases of magic.

@lightsidesoul10 ай бұрын
Not only did he leave Harry with his abusive relatives, it's implied in Order of the Phoenix that he threatened or blackmailed Petunia into keeping him thanks to him sending that "Remember my last" Howler. No context, just three words, and Petunia goes from being ready to let Vernon throw Harry out to telling him to go to his room. Then the fact that, in eleven years, Dumbledore never checked up on Harry, never popped by to make sure that Vernon and Petunia were OK raising The Boy Who Lived, and when Harry strait up *tells* Dumbledore that he's abused, Albus sent him back to the Dursleys with nothing but a vague warning delivered by Moody that they're being watched.

@@yesmansam6686 Jesus's name is Iesus in Latin. The J didn't exist in the original Latin alphabet, and was originally the letter "i". It would be said as "ee-yessoos". Just like what we know as Jehovah, was Iehova in Latin, as Indiana Jones is painfully aware of learning.

*Breathes deep and lets loose the inner nerd.* Aaaaaaaaaaaactually MUGGLES (Hogwarts is in the UK, not North America!) don't and can't stumble into Hogwarts because there are, and I quote *"Powerful muggle repelling charms on every inch of the grounds and castle"* which make it look like a mouldy, rotting old pile of debris and ruins that are fenced off and labeled as 'dangerous' and which cause approaching muggles to *"Spontaneously remember things they suddenly have to do"* causing them to always turn around and leave if they get close. :'D I tried so hard not to post, but suddenly I was here, writing. I totally came up with the Theory that Rowan Atkinson was meant to be Christmas Spirit in Love Actually! I never looked to see if it had already been come up with, but now I learn it was supposed to be in the original script. Makes sense now how I came to that conclusion. * sigh * Just another ingenious idea I've had that someone more successful than me had already come up with first. :/
@jojodelacroix8 жыл бұрын
Whenever I have an idea that ends up already existing or getting made shortly thereafter I take that as a compliment. Especially if it was a successful implementation of my idea. It really just shows that you're onto some good ideas. All you gotta do is keep at it and eventually you'll find something to pursue that hasn't been done previously.
@GRIMGORIRONHIDEROCKS8 жыл бұрын
John Edwards I was always too cautious of looking at it as a compliment in case people thought I was already being pretentious. Thanks. ^-^ Perhaps I'll start patting myself on the back a little more.
@jojodelacroix8 жыл бұрын
Conor Langford I don't see it as being pretentious myself, unless you are going around saying,"I had that awesome idea too! So I basically came up with that!" lol But yeah, why not? We all need a little encouragement and self-confidence/sel-assuredness. Heck, I'll pat you on the back too! *pat pat* :D

Read the comics, they pretty much admit to just trying to take over the world.
@M1ckTheMan8 жыл бұрын
Edward Gil Heard that, yeah, probably because the writer knew what LOGIC is, but the movie people were all "Screw that, let's make them completely justified superheroes!"
@ObaREX8 жыл бұрын
yoshimickster Pretty much. Just look at the movie "Wanted."
@M1ckTheMan8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that seems more accurate...also, is the comic better? I legitimately ask because well...Mark Millar.
@ObaREX8 жыл бұрын
yoshimickster Well, I actually just bought the book a few weeks ago and haven't finished it yet. It's pretty good and the concept is pretty cool. It's not about some pro assassins just being... pro assassins. It's about a world where the super heroes have been erased from history, any that are remaining are crippled and have no memory of how things used to be. And it's kinda cool seeing a comic about villains without trying to make it seem like they are just misunderstood people. They are all bad people and we're just seeing them as themselves. That said, typical to Mark Millar fashion, it is filled with a lot of swearing and profanity. Some of the characters have some really dumb names. But that's sort of the point since in a way, it is satire on the super hero genre.
