Why not cut it with a rock saw or concrete saw? I use a tile saw for the small ones as well, lots of dust but a really clean cut thats easy to polish. Just curious.
@WoodiesRockShop5 жыл бұрын
Our geodes tend to have a lot of calcite inside them and if we cut them, we cut the calcite off and it is not repairable. If we crack them and the calcite breaks it can be glued back in. We typically do our cutting after the geode is cracked open or if we have one we can see the inside of. Thanks for watching! Be sure to check out our newer videos to see more of the amazing beauties we have found.

What are the crystals we find inside the geoid? Can we find emeralds?
@WoodiesRockShop6 жыл бұрын
The majority of Keokuk Geodes have quartz crystals. We also find other mineral inclusions such as pyrite, goethite, calcite and a few others but I have never heard of an emerald in a Keokuk Geode. Why don't you try making a "stand" (like a short table) with a car-jack-style riser: you could even build it with a channel or rut in the top for the chain to lie in. Lay the chain in the rut, hoist the large geode onto the table -- jack the table surface up or down to the easier height to work with. Secure the chain, tighten the chain, pop -- and the geode halves (if you're lucky) fall onto their backs on the lift-table. It would be small enough to chuck in the back of your truck when you go to shows or to store in the corner of the room... You could even make the "table" top a wide-top bowl-ish shape? Use a watering dish for cows?
@WoodiesRockShop3 жыл бұрын
@1950archangel that sounds like a nice set up. Would definitely be easier on the body! Unfortunately there are so many other things packed when I go to a show that I don't have room to pack this with a stand.
