@@FlorianWortmann Thank you for explaining. Nice to know that Simon's "very weird and very beautiful trick" at time 22:56 can also be seen as a *finned X-wing.* Your puzzle is ok as it is. A difficult step, after a long series of very very fun and easy to spot bent triples does not make it less enjoyable, in my opinion. A puzzle becomes too difficult to be enjoyable only when it contains a neverending series of brutal steps which exponentially increases frustration and solving time. E.g., in my opinion these "90 minutes of madness" should have been smoothened in the second part, after a very enjoyable but brutal break-in: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpnSnGeLa5imnM0

I had the same problem with the given pencil marks getting messed up after pressing undo. I was too far in to want to restart, so just restored those cells to their starting state by looking at the start of the video, and then removed options that were no longer available given the state of the rest of the puzzle. Probably worth mentioning that the Phistomefel Ring is an American style crossword, so even those of us who struggle with easy cryptics can solve it with, if not ease than at least within a reasonable time frame. Very enjoyable. Has some of the really witty sort of American style clues that I enjoy. Puzzle was very enjoyable, although at some point correcting typos with the undo button started to cause the software to randomly delete and reset some given pencil marks. Needed to refer to the start of the to restore my given pencil marks a few times. Bit of a spoiler for Phistomefel Ring comment below to add to my recommendation: . . . . . . . . If anyone remembers when Simon and Mark used to showcase advanced cryptics on the channel, and loved the idea of them but didn't think they'd be able to get good enough at cryptics to get to the really intriguing end game steps, Phistomefel Ring is an American style crossword with an end game that feels like it could be from an Advanced Cryptic, at least to little old me who struggles with cryptics to the point that I've only been able to enjoy advanced cryptics vicariously via Simon and Mark on the channel.

Simon, a trick you missed: at 18:40 you say: "one can go in 4 places in box 4". That's not true: you've got a "doubleton" on three boxes forming a "bent triple" looking at box 4. So a 1 in box 6 forces the 1 in box 9, forces the 1 in box 7, so now there are 4 ones looking into box 4 and the one is placed in box 4. So whichever you chose in box 6 (or 7 or 9) it forces ONE place in box 4. So just like box 6,7 and 9, the 1 in box 4 can only go in 2 places! easy-peasy! :-)

Great puzzle and awesome solve! I got stuck a little further in, even resolved the ones and pencilmarked everything, even 5 digits. I think I missed a naked or hidden single. Took almost 90 minutes, but at least I got there in the end.m

Sometimes when I undo a move most of the black pencilmarks disappear and it is kinda unplayable...

Those consequent bent triples really made me laugh 😆 exceptionally funny break in

I'm having an issue where hitting undo will erase most/all of the built-in pencil marks. Not sure if that's an issue with the app or the puzzle setting. (It seems to happen intermittently so it may be hard to reproduce.)

This seems to be a test version of the software, as shown by the link. I’m playing on IPad and having a range of issues. The undo is not working fully and some of the given pencil mark have reversed between play sessions. Ie, if a cell starts with 1234 pencilled and I work out it can only be 1 or 2, when I come back 3 and 4 are pencilled and not 1 & 2

You can just keep undoing until the pencil marks come back, and then redo until you get back to where you were before. That fixes the issue, but you need to have an idea of when to stop pressing redo.

@@hmm7420 Sorry it didn't work for you, hope you found another solution to the problem.

I really enjoyed the flow of the start of the puzzle, though I definitely ran into the wall at exactly the same point Simon did - after his initial prompting of bent triples lead to me spotting them all over. Resolving that 1 in r5c1 seems to be quite a tricky leap!

Is the main featured puzzle loading for others? I'm just getting a header with a blank page beneath.

Same here. It's a shame because I almost never want to actually try a puzzle (I am not great at adding up numbers) and this one looked so tempting.

Pls can you try again now and confirm in a reply whether it is now working?
