Love/LV/Level of Violence feels like the only good answer to what [Hyperlink Blocked] is. Violence is what people resort to when they feel it's the only way to exert control over the world. Think about the most evil people. Bullies, abusers, war criminals, or whatever and very likely their motivation was to get some sense of control. The conclusion to the Weird Route may he that the feeling of control that violence gives you is just that, a feeling. The reality is that if your only answer to anything in life is violence, then you never made a choice.

My theory about the "one ending" has always been directly inspired by the duality of original Deltarune prophecy from Undertale, where Gerson memtions an Angel descending to "free" monsterkind, with many split on whether that means freed from the underground, ot freed from the mortal plane. Deltarune has one ending in much the same way- when the Earth draws her final breath, a Human, a Monster, and a Prince from the Dark will step up and banish the Angel's Heaven. Conveniently, we MADE a Human vessel at the start of the game, hometown is filled with monsters (but Noelle seems like a reasonable alt for Susie), and Lancer is LITERALLY the son of a king (aka, a Prince) from a dark world, and just so happens to be present on every adventure due to hopping in the inventory. Tbh, I think even the weird route will still fulfill this prophecy, but instead of Kris, Susie, and Ralsei, it will be Vessel, Noelle, and Lancer (or perhaps even Vessel, Asriel, and Lancer). Different story, same ending.

@@SobreDunas I'm pretty sure Lancer is still there, yes, I think they essentially jump into your inventory every time you leave. Idk if they still can be seen in the lightworld inventory like they can between Castle Town and the Library though, but even if they can't be, it could be assumed that they fall somewhere in the "Ball of Junk" item. Besides, we already know Lancer and Rouxls will be in Chapter 3, Toby revealed some dialogue from the next chapter in the newest newsletter.

Despite what Toby said, I think deltarune will have more than one ending through the Snowgrave route. The Snowgrave route is supposed to feel like something that’s not supposed to be a part of the game, a secret wrong route you’re not supposed to find. Heck this is even further proved by the fact that Noelle has a whole niche interest in finding bugs and glitches in games. By doing Snowgrave, you are essentially ‘breaking the game’ to find something that’s not supposed to be there.

i don't think the weird route is only about killing enemies to get stronger, i think that was just something we needed to do for noelle specifically, making her stronger so that she's ready for something in the future. my personal theory is that things are going to get worse for noelle in the future of the story, and that this will lead her to creating the "angel's heaven". the angel's heaven will be a dark fountain that will let her escape from all of her problems, and it will be the final fountain that starts the roaring. she'll get lost in escapism, and we'll have to banish the angel's heaven in the main story, bringing her back to the real world and helping her face her problems i think that one of the goals of the weird route is to stop all of this happening completely. after the weird route, noelle becomes more assertive in the conversation with her dad, and i think this will lead to her being "strong" enough to prevent her from starting the roaring in the first place. another goal of the weird route will be giving kris "freedom" from us, disconnecting us from their soul and letting them become their own person again the main connection between goals like this is that it's about us, the player, being willing to completely break the natural story, as long as it means these characters will become "free". in undertale's genocide route, you have to completely disconnect yourself from the story and treat it like any other videogame, killing enemies for XP. but the weird route is the polar opposite, it's the consequences of becoming way too attached to these characters and this story, doing anything you can for a better ending. but as spamton says: "YOU THINK MAKING [Frozen Chicken] WITH YOUR [Side Chick] IS GONNA LET YOU DRINK UP THAT [Sweet, Sweet] [Freedom Sauce]? WELL, YOU'RE [$!$!] RIGHT! BUT DON'T BLAME ME WHEN YOU'RE [Crying] IN A [Broken Home] WISHING YOU LET YOUR OLD PAL SPAMTON [Kill You]" this route may lead to freedom, but getting that freedom will mean sacrificing a LOT, and at the end of the day, will it be worth it?

Considering Toby got the ending for Deltarune from a dream, I think there has to be just one ending because only one can adhere to Toby’s dream that inspired the whole game. However, doesn’t mean the Weird Route is pointless and doesn’t affect anything. Let’s say the ending is Kris works at Denny’s. In one route, all the characters are like” Yeah, Kris you’ll be great at Denny’s” but in another route, everyone is dead. In both of these, Kris works at Denny’s, but in one, everyone is dead

Awesome video, I agree with everything you said. I've been thinking a lot about LV as detachment lately. Given Deltarune's theme of escapism, and the conflict of the characters wanting to stay in these fantasy worlds but having to choose to seal the dark fountains, thus detaching themselves from those fantasy worlds, I wonder how Deltarune will handle the Weird Route. Because I could see it going in one of two directions. 1. Pursuing the weird route is the right thing to do as a player, detaching yourself from the world of Deltarune, cutting away your attachment to the game world in the same way that you do when pursuing the genocide route in Undertale, as the stakes of character's life and death lose meaning to you. That snapping back to reality and recognizing the characters as fiction, without feelings that should be respected, is healthy. Or 2. Pursuing the weird route is the wrong thing to do as a player, because by choosing to stay in this fantasy world, you are dooming it to destruction, just as the Lightners would doom their world by overindulging in the dark worlds. And as the Light World is destroyed, the story is also destroyed in your mind, as the connections you made in the pacifist route that felt oh so real before become meaningless, and with no mysteries left, no stone left unturned, the game world ceases to feel alive. I think this is what the metaphor of "destroying the world" in Undertale and Deltarune means. So, the right thing to do would be to detach yourself from the game, leaving it to rest, but keeping the memories alive. It's probably the latter, but both scenarios are fun to think about. But now that I think about it, maybe this is the purpose behind the dual meaning of the prophecy? Two "modes" of detachment with opposite but equal meaning? Just thinking out loud... It is very, very interesting, lol... Anyways, great theory, I love how you framed the idea of Jevil and Spamton both seeking LV, it definitely got my imagination whirring. i’ve honestly thought this was the case for a while, mostly BECAUSE “making love” is something spamton would imply a couple of minors are doing. and because it fit pretty well with other stuff he says. plus, love exists as a variable in deltarune’s code separate to level (which goes up upon sealing a dark fountain), and while kris’s hasn’t risen yet, it’s likely NOELLE’S has. also, at 3:37 i believe ‘his own strings’ is referring to kris? just wanted to point that out, since the gendering was correct for the most part and i wanted to alert you in case it was referring to them. cool video!

I just realized something. What if gaster (or whoever the creator of the story is) told us our choises don't matter. Wich is what he would want, but the truth is that there is a something universal about undertale and deltarune, LV. And the reason [[Hyperlink blocked]] exist is maybe to pervent the player from finding about the LV. As said in the video, LV can bring you freedom. And as Spamton says, freedom equals freedom of choise. So by finding out about LOVE we can now make choises, something the creater doesn't want us to do. This in the end probably breaks the game or something.

The thing is though, we players never get the actual benefits of LV. It's an in-universe force that grants the *characters* power through detachment, even if we only ever see it gained in them via our influence. Gaster could very well be trying to keep us from knowing/caring about LV to keep the characters from being influenced by that force. To keep us from corrupting his data too much, so to speak.

Thorn ring IS only item that can deal fatal dmg, from what we currently have, actualy twisted sword lower trance(same ability that thorn ring has), so it might be for people who want to get... more twisted version of a deltarune story??? Who knows!

Well actually Noelle is the only person who can learn a spell that does Fatal Damage, but the Thorn Ring is needed for her to use the spell because otherwise it cost 200% TP and the Thorn Ring will half all spell cost making it only take 100% TP. The Thorn Ring is a means to an ends not the actual ends itself. With that being said maybe the reason the Twisted Sword lowers Trance is because Kris will gain the ability to use spells on the Weird Route, and much like how Snowgrave cost more than 100% TP any spell Kris learns will cost more than the limit meaning you need the Twisted Sword in order to use them.

@@cat-on8gp Yes it's needed in order to use Snowgrave due to it lowering TP cost, but it itself doesn't give her the spell. So saying that it's the only item that can deal fatal damage is like saying Asriel is the only monster who can break the barrier in Undertale. When actually it's Asriel including the 6 human souls and the rest of monster kind who break the barrier. You're giving the character, and item in the ring's case, an ability he doesn't have and taking away credit from everyone else who contributed in that moment. I know it may seem like the Thorn Ring being needed for Noelle to cast Snowgrave is basically the same as the ring giving her the spell but those two things are in actuality very different. By giving credit to the item you're taking away the ability of Noelle to be able to kill and making it seem as if the item is giving her the spell. It's shrinking her actions and abilities. Saying the ring helps her cast a fatal spell gives her the credit and shows that fatal magic is possible but the user needs a boost in order to perform it. Now if the Thorn Ring gave Noelle the new fatal spell or if the Thorn Ring made every means of defeating an enemy a fatal means then you could say that the Thorn Ring is the only item that can deal fatal damage.

Because in undertale the shop lady tells us that the two skeletons came out of nowhere. And there is a second from the traveller helps us travel. "Beware of the man from another world" It mostly refers to one of the two brothers, which is mostly sans. That's the theory.

The reason the weird route works is because of Noelle. She's heavily associated with video game secrets, creepypastas, and glitches. The dark worlds themselves function like video games. She's also the only main character outside of the three heroes. She's going to be significantly important to the plot. Manipulating other characters wouldn't feel the same, nor would it make sense.

The more I binge all these theories to fill in time before the new chapters releases, the more I start to realize something about Deltarune. Honestly seems like the game itself is designed to keep you on the path of the game. The game that was designed by Toby in real life, but by Gaster mostly likely in the.... not real life but not in game either? Its listed as one ending because we will be encouraged into a set storyline and that has a set ending. But while its characters (including Kris) all follow that set story, the player doesn't have to. So we will most likely find a way to break out of that intended plot line. And who is the one guy who is fairly adamantly pushing us to follow along with that set path? The Fluffy boi himself of course. No wonder he gets so flustered in the Weird Route.

okay so at FIRST i was ready to agree with this video no strings attached (pause for laughter) because it seems to explain hyperlink blocked rather nicely and was already kind of what i imagined the weird route's purpose was (i.e. a brute-force way for kris to attain "freedom") BUT. theres problem. LV doesn't increase with kills. not even with snowgrave. in fact, LV increases on _both_ routes by sealing a chapter's dark fountain, and the _entire party_'s LV goes up, not just kris's. violence only increases the AT (attack) stat, along with the ominous "got stronger" text. i've always been of the opinion that kris's agency has very clearly traceable progress starting from the beginning of chapter 1, which develops right up to the end of chapter 2; first not appearing remotely different, then appearing somewhat unwell to people who know them, then inflecting with or against our dialogue options, etc. if you squint you can kiiinda see similar developing arcs with susie/ralsei. basically, LV likely IS meant to track "freedom", as you put it, but this statistic is not unique to the weird route. that being said, i don't think this kills the theory in its entirety. what it likely means is (paraphrasing from something mollystars of device theory fame posits) LV and "LOVE" are two different stats. i can't seem to remember any reference to "LOVE" in the game code, though, which is strange given toby likes to extend his storytelling to the programming itself. what i want to conclude with this is something along the lines of, kris is after freedom via dark fountains in both routes, so they open fountains regardless...??? idk. thoughtful analysis otherwise but maybe get this bit looked at

I like your theory and how you word it, my theory was based on hyperlink blocked was determination/power. as that is the desire and control. can be used for good or bad. but it could also be referring to LVL as well. my own guess with [[Hyperlink Blocked]] is that represents basically breaking connection between User and Program, Spamton wants [[Hyperlink Blocked]] to break free from the strings that attaches to their role, Kris wants [[Hyperlink Blocked]] to break free from our connection to this world, and if [[Hyperlink Blocked]] is LV, then could be that basically by gaining LV we make them stronger, strong enough to loose connection and eventually break free from the strings that attaches them to their role and do what they want on their own Will. and the sound when we make Noelle freeze them, my own interpretation is that we're diverging from the main path, one that isn't premeditated and eventually lead us to an unforeseen route that no one knows how it would end, possibly why Toby call it The Weird Route. also, something interesting about the Thorn Ring is that has something called "Trance" when equipped, Trance meaning is bascially a half-conscious state characterized by an absence of response to external stimuli, typically as induced by hypnosis or entered by a medium. so that checks out on why Noelle didn't recognized Berdly at first. (besides the fact of getting stronger). I still don't think Noelle is the Angel, but I do believe that she's an important chess piece to keep an eye in future chapters.

Has this theory ever been brought up before? I haven't looked much into Deltarune theories so I'm not sure. It sounds like something that wouldn't be easily overlooked, but makes complete sense. I will never look at the snowgrave route any other way now. Also, looking at some of these comments makes it even more believable, like the one person who said that the ring drains Noelle's hp to 55, which is LV in roman numerals. I can't get Queen's lines from near the end of the normal route out of my head. • The Knight • The Roaring Knight... • Today, It Deigned To Create This World • Reaching Its Long Hand To The Sky • It Coursed Its Will Into Its Blade • And Made in comparison to spamton's line... YOU'VE BEEN [Making], HAVEN'T YOU! The repeated use of the word "make" in this specific and eerily similar way (as an intransitive verb with an unstated object) strikes me as significant. repetition of an expression or turn of phrase like this is often meaningful in toby's writing. are queen and spamton referring to the "making" of the same thing? their phrasing seems to suggest that they could be. and the fact that spamton proceeds to elaborate his phrasing into "MAKING [Hyperlink Blocked]!" makes this connection much more interesting. it would suggest that [Hyperlink Blocked], whatever it is, could also be relevant in some way to the creation of dark fountains. i don't know that this observation fits cleanly into the framework of [Hyperlink Blocked] as LV, but perhaps it could. i just have a gut feeling that this idea of "making" is something we're going to be needing to pay attention to in the future.

I think it makes more sense for hyperlink blocked to he determination,since determination gives you the freedom to save and load at any point you desire,ostensibly speaking LV is tied to determination in some way...

Well heres how i see lv in deltarune. Kris does not want level of violence. They do not want to harm people. However, we the player have no issue with doing this because our choices dont matter. So what if instead of kris bec9ming feee. The more lv we get through snowgrave os freeing us and pushing kris further and further down. We will be free. After all, when was the game ever in control of a being who exists outside it.

I agree with all this, except I'm not totally convinced LOVE is gained from killing darkners (i'm not even sure they can die, or are "alive" in the first place), but I imagine it would be for sure gained killing a lightner. Spamton focuses specifically the actions against Berdly in relationship to Hyperlink-blocked The main reason i feel this is that there seems to be an intentional distinction in Deltarune, that LOVE and Level are two separate things, Level in the dark world....but LOVE in the light world, as it would function in Undertale.
