Those textured surfaces make a massive difference. The aesthetics of the game are definitely become more palatable and customizable. The beach town is looking awesome!
@anthonyortali32606 ай бұрын
A very pretty build, and the update came at just the right moment! For the beach and custom viewpoint and other parkish areas you can use the "areas" from the Extra tool in your terraforming tab. Designate the beach as a park area, and add either invisible or regular pathways to and through these areas. When you have sims looking for outdoor entertainment, they will use your new parks and give some life to them (and I don't think the homeless have figured out these custom areas, but I haven't really looked for them.) I'm not sure how to get them to sit on the benches and chairs, but in the parks and built in patios on the buildings they now will use them (I was zoomed in looking at some placement details and suddenly noticed this.) I'm also not sure that these custom areas count in the AI as leisure like the "park" assets, but you can also place some of the vanilla ones and extend them with the custom park area designation to get that if you need it to make the sims happy. Cities Skylines 2 has blossomed into something exciting (although I do have a pretty good gaming machine so that may be influencing my opinion just a bit!)

I'd think that a neighbour full of all those swanky homes would be gated off; most of all as there's that big hill overlooking the backs of all the homes. I can already see the paparazzi sneaking into the woods to try and watch a popstar shower. That being said, it being on a headland like that makes it a weird one to gate off lol

You know, these sand & grass textures would be awesome to create some great looking sand dunes ! Add a few bushes and grasses (when they get to us) and you'll get really close to the real deal. By the way, you should have such a feature separating your beach from your town. It doesn't need to be very high, just enough to make some preserved nature at the heart of your build.

It would be cool to do a rocky shoreline around the millionaire's homes, using a combination of the the boulders, small rock piles etc. then you could also add a few small private beaches in between the rocky out crops, with small paths leading down from the homes.

@@OVERCHARGEDEGG Awesome! Im imagining using terraforming to create small coves, covered in boulders and rocks, so the beaches are somewhat enclosed on either side by the rock formations. then moving further up the hill you could have really dense brush using sunken trees/bushes, keeping it short enough so the view from the houses arent blocked. then lastly a very basic wooden fence along the road with openings for the foot paths. probably will take alot of tedious work but it would look great!

It seems like one of those peninsulas (or maybe the one that's now an island) might be likely to have a lighthouse or the ruins of one. Of course, if it's an old one, it might be linked to a similarly ruined or historic harbor. I just imagine that such a lush and beautiful coastal area would have a history of at least minor prior habitation.
@ardarin74626 ай бұрын
there was a french tv reality show named Koh-Lanta after the island where first season took place. The naming of Koh Khai reminds it to me. For the first town Lanta would du funny to me despite not being a reference for english speaking countries. For more information about the real location mentioned above : Koh Lanta or Ko Lanta is a coastal island in the Andaman Sea. It only officially took the name Koh Lanta in 1917. This name, of uncertain etymology, comes either from the Javanese lanta which designates a utensil used to grill fish or from the Thai lan taa which associated with koh would translate as “the island of a million eyes”.

Some of those headland mansions could be build back from the main road... with a private road entry allowing the house to be place higher up the hill? Also, your headland road with trees on it will likely be the target for some people to "remove" the trees because they will potentially block their views. Yeah - it happens IRL!!!

About to dive back in for the first time since launch now that they've smoothed over the biggest issues imo. Especially happy about the detailer update and smaller service building options. Question: when it comes to surface tools, do cims actually walk on them, like use the beach and props? Or is that something that'll require a future mod or expansion? I love the idea of building a beach front but hate seeing it empty of people.

Not sure if I am the only one to notice, but I do not think a paved road would be put onto a sand foundation. I do not see that working out for the road's integrity. I hope you can take that into consideration to change it. Perhaps a boardwalk over the sand and have the road extend to the boardwalk
@tlspud6 ай бұрын
You don't build a road on a sand foundations but roads are built on beaches (for bicycle and emergency vehicles access) all the time. Here's how you do it: 1) get a bulldozer and remove all the sand. 2) bring in truckloads of basalt and compact it down. 3) bring in truckloads of gravel and compact it down over the basalt. 4) lay down a road surface as normal. 5) Use bulldozer to push sand back around the road. 6) enjoy beach road.
@pcdosgirl6 ай бұрын
It's a bit more common on sand beaches to see compacted and leveled terrain (with tire marks so that is easily identified as a road). So perhaps the CS2 dirt road would be appropriate for the sand areas, and maybe an alley road for the soil areas. The game's dirt road actually has a sand color, so definitely could work. Also, can you put terrain over roads using anarchy? I've never tried it.
@jgolden29766 ай бұрын
@@tlspud Wow, great points and thanks for explaining the process. I have never see it done and I also have never seen an asphalt road on top of sand, so it interesting knowing that a normal road is underneath it.

@BrentDnD4 ай бұрын
It seems that maybe you haven’t actually been to the beach. Those well-defined wave lines you see in a picture are static because it’s literally a picture. The constant rising and lowering of the tide throughout the day makes those wave lines to show as much more smooth transition from the more densely packed wet sand to the dry sand up higher on the beach. And that’s generally how it works all over the world, with o my slight differences in appearance based on the type of sand at any particular beach.
