Wow, that was one of the best bench videos I've seen. Totally on point, nothing that wasn't needed, everything that was, and all in focus and in frame, lol! Although it's going to take a while to recover from the tool envy...

beautiful all the work in that one ring and still have such low prices. i am amazed by your abilities to make something so beautiful from just the raw materials that come from nature. greetings from the Netherlands and if i ever have the need to buy expensive rings for an occasion i will certainly have a look at your crafting again. i have an idea but would it be possible to combine your style of rings with the secret wood rings (those rings that are made from a piece of wood with splinters and epoxy glue). if you ever try something like that it would be awesome.
@SilvaAurea7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Maybe.. the secret wood rings are usually quite big while I'm more about the minimalistic and modern designs. I'm sure I could combine the two if I gave the splinter technique a try but I'm not sure if it's for me, even though I do like the look of it a lot.

Great video overall, thanks! The final reveal of the finished product could be more clear though. Different angles, clear focus, proper lighting, so we can really enjoy the finished piece. The weird out-of-focus super bright dream sequence thing at the end was kind of a buzz kill for an otherwise awesome video!
@SilvaAurea8 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yes, I regret that I didn't take more time to get some good shots of the finished ring.

I only mentioned it because the final product was killer, made a subscriber out of me in any case :)

Wow that is an amazing ring. Would you ever make one with Purple Heart for the wood inlays?
@SilvaAurea7 жыл бұрын
I do have a very nice piece of Purple Heart and have done some experiementing with it but it's a very tricky wood to work with. After cutting, sanding and oiling the wood, it's a muddy brown-ish color but turns purple again after a while. But it might change color again with time and turn brown again. I think it's sensitive to UV light, so also to sunlight. From what I read, the wood will turn brown again slowly as it's exposed to UV light regularly but the color can be refreshened by sanding the surface. However, this seems to be a whole science for itself so I'm not certain about any of this. I could definitely craft rings with Purple Heart but I couldn't give any guarantee on how the color will come out and if it might change again in the future. There are some techiniques used in woodworking where you treat the wood certain ways and often times seal it with layers of UV resistant finish which isn't really applicable for my rings. So if you wouldn't mind the uncertainty of all this, feel free to contact me about a commission. I could also make a ring with 3 different wood inlays so in the worst case, the disappointment wouldn't be too bad.

Beautiful craftmanship and videography! I think I missed something, though - you used the bur to drill little divots into the silver and into the wood, but what was their purpose? Did that somehow allow the epoxy to make a stronger bond? I didn't quite catch that part. Love your final product, also. I've subscribed and hope to see more videos!
@SilvaAurea7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I cut those little notches in the silver and in the wood to line up. I fill them up with epoxy so the epoxy acts like a locking bolt kind of. The wood can't move out of the ring because the epoxy locks it in place in addition to the epoxy that just sits between the materials anyways. I hope that makes sense, it's hard to explain for me.
@Grantlh7 жыл бұрын
No, that makes perfect sense! thanks so much. Keep up the beautiful work :-)

How do you feel about someone trying to make a ring like this?
@SilvaAurea5 жыл бұрын
It's not an incredibly unique design so I wouldn't be as arrogant as saying noone can copy it, even commercially, but of course I don't like seeing anyone straight up copy and sell someone elses idea. Let me know how it turned out if you try to make one!

Why do you drill the inside of the ring and wood?
@SilvaAurea7 жыл бұрын
I cut these little groves in the metal and the wood to line up once the wood is fit into the ring. They will all be filled with resin and act somewhat like a bolt reinforcing the connection after the resin hardened.
