This week's project is finishing an Ashe Juniper piece I turned in a live demo. You can see the demo here: • 2024-07-31 Demo: Bowl ... . You can see more of my videos here: / @themessystudio .
Welcome back, woodturning enthusiasts! I previously got this piece shaped and hollowed in a live demo for Worldwide Woodturners. Today, we have something truly exceptional to showcase - the exquisite Turned Ashe Juniper bowl with delicate copper laces. This stunning piece is a true work of art, blending natural beauty with skilled craftsmanship.
Allow me to introduce you to this magnificent Turned Ashe Juniper bowl. What makes it truly unique are the intricate copper laces adorning its surface. Let me take you through its remarkable journey.
This bowl begins its story at a friend's house. They cut it down several years ago and asked if I wanted it. Silly question. The Ashe Juniper tree, native to these lands, possesses a distinctive reddish-brown heartwood that's highly sought after by artisans. The grain is beautiful, but the wood itself is rather brittle. This means a light hand is necessary.
To start this creation, I selected a piece of Ashe Juniper that I thought suitable for the project. What I did not realize is that it had a bark inclusion that ran deep inside. This would rear its ugly head as I turned the piece.
With the blank secured onto a lathe, I turned it to shape the bowl, revealing the mesmerizing patterns hidden within the wood.
As I gradually shape the bowl, I maintain its natural contours, allowing the wood to dictate its final form. Patience and precision are essential throughout this process.
The bark inclusion decided to part company as I was hollowing the inside, but I wasn't too concerned. I had an idea of how to treat the now empty section of the bowl. Now comes the time to accentuate the bowl's beauty with copper laces. Meticulous attention is required to bring out its true elegance."
These copper laces were painstakingly cut to fit the intricate pattern needed to mimic laces, as in a shoe. With each strike of the rubber mallet, I blend the rustic charm of copper with the warmth of wood.
And here it is, folks - the mesmerizing Turned Ashe Juniper bowl with its enchanting copper laces. This exquisite piece showcases the harmonious union of nature's raw beauty and the craftsman's skill.
Whether you display it as a centerpiece or use it to enhance your living space, this bowl is sure to captivate all who behold it. It serves as a testament to the immense creativity within the world of craftsmanship.
Thank you for joining us on this mesmerizing journey through the creation of the Turned Ashe Juniper bowl with copper laces. Remember, true artistry lies in the attention to detail and the ability to merge natural wonders with our human touch. Until next time, happy crafting!
I'm quite happy with the end result.
Thank you for watching. I'll have another turning out soon. So stay tuned, keep creating and always strive for innovation.

It looks great, Billy. You didn't disappoint us. I think you need a bigger hammer for that delicate work, though.

You're going through a lot of work for CA glue to end up not holding. Epoxy is always the way to go.
