The miter slots are the reference points on the table saw. They are machined parallel to each other and to the table edges. The blade is set parallel to the miter slot AND the fence is set parallel to the miter slot. Some people like to move the rear end of the fence .003 or .004 inches away from the slot using feeler gauges to provide a bit of relief. There are usually bolts under the table that hold the saw mechanism to the table and allow you to align the blade to the slot. A jig that rides the slot and holds a dial gauge can be used assure the blade is correctly aligned. Mark a tooth on the saw, move the tooth to the near end of the throat and zero the dial against it. Now, move the tooth to the far end of the throat and check the gauge again. If there is a difference, loosen the afore mentioned bolts slightly and tap the mechanism to move it the necessary distance. Then tighten the bolts and you should be good to go.

Only set your fence after you are sure the blade and miter guage slots are aligned! If your blade is out of align with the miter slots any jigs you will use will not work well and if you move your fence to the other side of the blade that is out of alignment you create the very problem that you thought you had fixed on the other side? Setting a fence takes less that five minute. I have used many table saw and Have never found a miter slot/blade orientation out but a minute anount ,In the thousands of an inch, which is aceptable but if it was out of alignment I would fix it ASAP! I own a wood working shop that makes detail work where precision is important.

thats good advice, particularly for someone making jigs. adjusting the trunion is smart, and adjusting the fence is important (when its possible). i seriously doubt people are buying an entry level table saw and then making jigs, but one never knows.
@bigharrybushcraft83642 жыл бұрын
My saws fence runs parallel. It's most likely a quality control issue they opted not to address. You might try loosening your fence clamp that 1/16th you mentioned and, if still needed, file a half a hair off the left nylon fence track guide.

all fences have 2 screws on the top near the handle. Those are for small adjustments. Adjust the fence not the blade!.

WRONG. most contractor grade table saws have screws that attach to the trunion, under the table.
@anadunn13782 жыл бұрын
@@senatorfrisky I agree with you. You can align the blade and the fence. The video is not very clear but I saw a slightly difference in distance when for a moment he moved the fence near the miter slot. To be sure that the blade needs alignment I think should be done taking as a reference the miter slot and not the fence. Maybe both need adjustment.

A miter saw is a luxury honestly. If you can only pick one. Table saw. I bought a miter first and it was awesome for the job I needed it for. But as time went on I was really feeling the need for the table saw
@senatorfrisky2 жыл бұрын
this 100% depends on what you're doing. there's no way you can hang trim with a miter saw. sometimes i complain about people making cross cuts with a miter sled on a table saw when a good miter saw makes the job much safer
@lemhanback95952 жыл бұрын
I understand why you suggested getting a mitersaw for cross cuts, unfortunately couldn't afford both and knew I'd be ripping and crosscuting. Till business makes money the more you can do with one tool cheaper startup costs are. As business grows then you upgrade. helpful video though and good suggestions.

The fence being closer at the back of the blade than at the front could cause kickback. The wood is being pinched against the rising part of the blade, creating a dangerous condition for the operator.

Yes, its a big misalignment on craftsman's end. But it's not end of production, recall, continue contacting, and eventual boycott situation. Quality assurance missed one? It happens. That's why the manual advises double checking everything and even thoroughly walks you through the entire setup process. regardless of page location, it's still addressed. Follow Manual, it is correct- Blade shouldn't be the first adjustment made. Blade should be aligned with miter slot and fence to miter slot. Blade shouldnt be adjusted unless it's misaligned with miter slot. In this case, the fence should be what's adjusted. The fence needing that much force to lock it down should've been the first clue as I'm sure that has something to do with the misalignment.

The riving knife gets in the way of raising the blade for a zero clearance plate; lots of safety issues with this saw such they seem to ignore.
@senatorfrisky Жыл бұрын
the riving knife gets in the way of raising a zero clearance blade on EVERY table saw. there is usually a bolt or two to lower or remove the riving knife. the only saw i know of with a more complicated solution is the saw-stop brand, which detects the presence of the riving knife, and must be tricked with a spacer block.
@lisablack2567 Жыл бұрын
@@senatorfrisky there's a bolt; I'm not sure how the heck I'll get it off though. I have small hands, but idk if they're that small (just did a mental flash to Deadpool's baby hands). If I take that bolt out, do you know whether or not it will affect the spring mechanism for the riving knife? It won't center on the blade as it is in spite of attempts to adjust it, so I sure don't want to jack it up more than it is. I did finally get runners cut for my miter slots and am so close to having a cross cut sled that I can almost taste it, but my 'remove the riving knife-a-phobia'is holding me back! Ps... The screws for adjusting the throat plate are pretty useless; pawls are hanging up on it when adjusting the blade now. Never a dull craftsman moment! #shouldveboughtdewalt
