The Airbus/Boeing duopoly definitely needs more competition but the fact that this JV failed to recognize the hole in the market left by the 757 as you mentioned means they will not the one to end the duopoly in the near future. The Russians keep only copy western designs after the cold war and the Chinese just keeps dumping money on people. Also as you mentioned, its not just the price of the aircraft but its overall cost during its life, and this company has no track record and no global supply/support chain for their aircraft. But this is something they can partner up with western companies that has a global support chain but does not make large commercial jets like Textron and Gulfstream/GD or Dassault. You should've also mentioned that CRAIC is planning on building a 4 engine jet and this is sucking up some of their resources instead of pouring it into the 757 replacement. Finally, remove the "I" in the acronym and this company is called CRAC.
@alexandernorman53374 жыл бұрын
Given that UAC and COMAC haven't been able to agree on a supplier list, I think there's a good chance the CR929 is never brought to the market. Granted, they may work it out over the next 6 months. But they also might not. And, as you mentioned, many airlines have already (or will do so over the next 2-5 years) selected their future aircraft in this class to carry them for the next 25 years. The CRAIC CR929 program cannot afford unnecessary delays because every airline choosing airbus or boeing is an opportunity for market entry that is lost and won't come again for over 20 years.

@@alexandernorman5337 hahaha really funny comment。so which is the big market for airplane company sellers?why china should only buy from Boeing? Really idiot comment
@alexandernorman53374 жыл бұрын
@@acjayden2771 - You have an interesting take on risk then! China's COMAC and Russia's UAC created a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly investigate the feasibility of the CR929 program and what was needed for it back in mid 2016. Here, more than 4 years later, there is still no legally binding contract for any party to do anything towards creating the final product. There is no legal liability for either COMAC or UAC to bring anything into the program and there are no legally contracted suppliers. And they have just recently again pushed out the date to where they say they will have contractually bound system suppliers. Again, they may be close to obtaining a contract behind the scenes and all of this will resolve itself in a few months. But then again, it might not! And things are never certain until there are firm contracts signed.

It takes more than 8 hours non stop to fly from Eastern Russia to Moscow, and the population of Russia + China = about 1.6 billion, so if they don't sell a single aircraft to other countries still they will take a huge slice of the world market.

I agree with your opinion that they would need to differentiate themselves from an already mature market. As you said their best bet would be an MMA that would fill the particular spot that the B767’s and B757’s will leave behind.

Ernesto Roy Yep, CRAIC has to be more competitive than just copying :) Thanks for tuning in

The middle of the market is being taken quickly by A321XLR and CR929 will not be ready in time to compete. The two countries are developing an airplane together for the first time and it's hard to predict what will happen. They will likely have more troubles than France and Germany when they started working together for Airbus. So they are designing a plane they need the most, which can save them some B787 and A330/A350 orders rather than going into a time-sensitive market segment filling others' need.
@oneskyflyer4 жыл бұрын
Yu Zhu Yes that’s a good point. China already has plenty of A350s on order but developing their own jet could save them money, but these will be mainly operated by Chinese airlines. Thanks for tuning in!

They won't have a chance in the West until they provide immediate parts and technical support, and overcome Nationalistic Commercial hurdles. No airline is going to risk having their aircraft sitting idle while waiting weeks for parts or guidance. That said, this is a start for them, Airbus went through the same initiation and successfully navigated those tasks, but it took years, and now they are reaping the rewards.

Currently, the company best equipped to end the airliner manufacturing duopoly would be Lockheed, perhaps in partnership with Northrup Grumman. Lockheed has built some of the finest airliners ever to fly. The L1011 Tri Star was a spectacular and very underrated plane. With a bit of government subsidy, perhaps equal to what Airbus and COMAC receive, Lockheed or a Lockheed/Northrup Grumman partnership would be more than capable of reentering the airline market with a some very competitive offerings. The USA used to have three big commercial airliner manufacturers. Perhaps it is time to have at least two.

The comac won’t be worldwide for awhile. 1. They have to pass the tests from a lot of safety regulators by various countries. 2. They need to have worldwide service coverage. I think eventually they can overcome these 2 main hurdles, for comac sellable worldwide. In the meantime comac pretty much marketable only in China and Russia. Since C929 is a joint venture from those 2 countries.
@udontknowme77984 жыл бұрын
The 787 will soon be pushed out of the market due to misserable quality, but I guess the 929 will become close to the A-350. It will first be sold in China, Russia and south American and the African market, and some companies in the west with bad economy. But those who buy it will soon get a good reputation for a surprisingly good quality, which will give rumors to Western airlines. In the future, it will be Airbus and Comac that will rule the large wide body long aircraft, and Airbus, Comac and Irkut will rule narrow body, while Airbus, Sukhoi, Embraer and maybe Mitsubishi Aircraft Company will be the ones who in the future will get agreements on small narrow body aicrafts with 70-150 passengers. Boeing wants to go bankrupt, but may start up again to produce high-speed trains after a Chinese company buys up Boeing, and also gets agreements to build high-speed trains for the entire USA, Maxico and Canada. They want to make use of cheap Indian labor. But only Americans and Chinese are allowed to build the toilets on board these high-speed trains. Sewage along the train tracks will not be a good reputation for Boeing, therefore no Indians.

Both Russia and China are not very concerned about the success of their aircrafts in the international markets as their main focus of their aviation industry development is to free their markets from the US-Western duopoly and to increase the use of domestic products while targeting potential markets of the third world with a proven reliability and service support starting first in their respective country.

CRAIC could build the best aircraft in the world but politics will prevent it ever being adopted by US airlines and those of its allies. There is also the Huawei offensive to consider where mission critical parts could be blocked for new and in service CRAIC aircraft for commercial reasons. All things considered the 929 looks like a good bet for home markets but reliant on US technology a very dangerous gamble for most others.
