Very good! Been aware of Craig for many a year. Great communicator and all points very useful! Thanks especially for the 'dual compressors' info and for the great analogies like 'pure lead not faux gold'! It's tempting to reach out and grab the 'mastering' effects on the master out during tracking. I've been a bad boy, but haven't reached the mastering process yet, so there is hope still..haha. Peace.

Craig, you're great. I love that "fake gold" thing. And I also love your book on guitar effects (which I acquired from my cousin many years ago). But I just have to say that I always mix into a buss compressor right from the start. I level everything to get a reasonable approximation and then put an SSL type plug-in across the stereo buss that just kisses the output. I'm pretty sure that I'm doing a good job. The results are good. Am I wrong?
@PaulBell889 жыл бұрын
+incaroads Just mix with it but don't print to the track you send for mastering, that way you get an idea of how your mix will sound after mastering without sending the engineer something he can't work with.

QUESTION: Does the Presonus $99.00 version have the equalizer and compression options on them? I may have missed it, but I am a pure novice, but experienced musician, Just need to know if that is something I would have to add on or buy later? I think this demo is pretty awesome, thanks so much for sharing your expertise! Thanks!
@presonus9 жыл бұрын
+Roland Lemus Yes, look up Pro EQ and Compressor in the Effects section. :)

Thanks, I appreciate the response, I was listening then played this back, and saw that, but hey, I was so in to your session there, and learning a huge amount there, it's like so much info, and such a cool application, I cannot wait to get this and start recording. I appreciate you all putting that together for us newbies! Happy holidays!!
@rolandlemus2039 жыл бұрын
Ok, listening through this a second round, why are there options for higher compression if that is too harsh, and the lighter application of compression is the way to go? When would it be better to have options for a higher compression? Just trying to understand, thanks,
@kevinreddoch52149 жыл бұрын
+Roland Lemus Compression can also be used as an effect to create pumping or distortion so they make it very versatile. I personally love using crazy compression on drum rooms to create that larger than life drum sound. :)

Is the Mastering function in Presonus in Studio artist?
@presonus9 жыл бұрын
+benjamen campos No, it's in the Professional version.
@kevinreddoch52149 жыл бұрын
+benjamen campos Well the mastering page is only available in S1Pro, but any of the S1 versions can still be used to master your tracks...Just export a stereo mix and open it in a new project. There you have Pro Eq, Compressor, Limiter, Binaural pan available. So the "Mastering function" is available, just not as convenient if you have change something in the mix and it's harder to arrange songs for an album, but from a track to track perspective you have the same tools. :)
@benliftss9 жыл бұрын
Kevin Reddoch Awesome thanks for that. So if i would be working on a album would it be best to buy S1Pro. But if i wanted to just do a song and put out for fans i could just follow the steps you provided.
@kevinreddoch52149 жыл бұрын
Ya. Honestly I do albums with S1v2 Producer. So I just use separate tracks from each song of the project I'm arranging then move them to where they need to be. You just have to set the loop around each song then export it that way. Takes quite a bit more time though, but if you have any songs that fade fade together or anything like then this is the way to go. So really if I was working on tons of full length albums and having to correct mixes and stuff for mastering then S1pro would pay for itself with the time I'd save. :)

Does presonus pro. Come with the full version of melody me?
@responsibleparty6 жыл бұрын
I was a little confused by this. Isn't mastering the process of producing a stereo track from the multi-track, which includes everything he talked about here as well as mixing? But he seems to talk as though it only refers to post production on the stereo track. I saw some great tips for working with the stereo track here, but it felt like that would've made a little more sense in the context of mixing the tracks in Studio One.
@TWEAKER019 жыл бұрын
Better still: give your professional mastering engineer gold and they'll make it shine. If you're not already REALLY HAPPY with your mix(es) after mixing, your project isn't ready for mastering. - Mastering Engineer
