If I understand matters correctly, back in the day, Quebec (who picked Nolan), Vancouver (Nedved), Detroit (Primeau), and Philadelphia (Ricci) all interviewed Jagr, but were told he would NOT be coming to play in North America. He told the Pittsburgh brass that he would be coming to North America right away because he wanted to play with Mario Lemieux. So, it wasn't so much that the other teams were believing in whatever BS that was floating around - they were all tricked by Jagr into not picking him... Now, should teams forced the matter and pick Jagr anyway? Who knows... but we also had the Eric Lindros situation around the same time too, but fortunately for the Nordiques, insisting on drafting Lindros landed them Peter Forsberg and others, and Forsberg alone turned out to have a more accomplished NHL career. It is also a hyperbole that Jagr's career is better than the four who were picked before him combined. All of Nolan, Nedved, Primeau and Ricci had played over 900 games each; they combined to scored over 1200 goals in their careers... their careers were obviously not as stellar like that of Jagr's, but Jagr's career is also an anomaly in that he was still playing productively in the NHL into his 40s...

I'm pretty sure for hockey parents attending a player's first NHL game on the road, the NHLPA pays for the tickets (that home rinks have to provide and they must be lower bowl) and the team pays for travel. Because they have to give the home team 48 hours notice for those tickets, you're going to have situations where parents travel or are preparing to travel for a road game, only to not have their kid play because of changing circumstances with the team that then get blown completely out of proportion on social media.

This may not be about today's show but let's hope Meyers will keep his mouth shut next time instead of pis-ing off the refs with his comments. I remember what happened after Burrows said something and what happened afterwards.

Jagr said he had to go to the military to the top 4 teams in that draft, but he said he could play right away for the penguins
