It was Ricky Skaggs who was standing off stage here afterwards who convinced him he had to keep singing the song to help others in their grief. Craig had planned that this would be the only performance of the song ever. Blake Shelton actually worked on social media to get the song airplay for his friend after hearing it. Craig says that he doesn't always perform the song now in every venue where he plays because it still takes him a lot of emotional energy to get through it without crying.

Very brave performance, it was good of Ricky to encourage him to get through it.

Lost my son on April 6th, 2019, in a motorcycle accident. Would have been 34 in July. Was single and had a young daughter. He and i both worked on a towboat. I got off the boat for the first time after his passing and was beginning to drive home when this song came on the radio as i started the car. I had never heard it till then and it hit me like a rock. I cried for the four hour ride home. I too fell Craig's pain and would like to thank him for sharing this song. I still get a tear in eye each time i hear it but it gives me hope also. Love you son.

I lost my son when he was 6 hours old. That kind of pain is indescribable. He would have been 16 now and a day doesn’t go by that I don’t forget. He is in heaven with his grandma and his sister. 😢

I read somewhere that when they pulled Jerry from the water his hands were clasped as if in prayer and his eyes were looking up at the sky…I try to pray for them a few times a week that God will continue to grant them grace and strength for the journey. Thanks for covering this one.❤

We lost 2 of my brothers 2yrs apart, and they were both only 24 yrs old. One was a marine and died in a terrorist attack. The other was staying in a camper visiting friends. The propane heater blew up. My parents were never the same. It’s almost like their spirits were gone, and robots stayed behind. It destroyed our family. Mr Morgan and my parents suffered a hell that I hope I never experience.

Y'all GOTTA see the video where Dwight Yokam sings at Buck Owens' funeral. Yeah, I can't believe these singers can gather up the strength to sing these songs. I know Vince Gil had an extremely hard time doing it.

This is a hard song to listen to. As you said, parents shouldn't lose their children. I lost my daughter at two months old of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) many years ago. She was 'perfect', but she was gone. You never get over it. You just learn to live with it. I feel extremely lucky that we have a son who was two years old when our daughter died. We're very close. I'm new to your channel and love your 'title'. You two have a good start now. :0) My husband and I will celebrate 54 years in June. thanks, and I just subscribed.

Never lost a child in the sense of him/her being here but I lost a son while my wife was 16 weeks pregnant (knew it was a son and was confirmed later). That hurt to the core and I can only imagine what losing a child that you have had the ability to spend time with, even in the slightest. Noah died of a true knot in his cord, truly I believe because he was so active so early, both my wife and I could feel him moving at around 10 weeks gestation. It was the only OB appointment that I missed (for him or my daughter), because our daughter who was 2 1/2 at the time, was sick. To compound things, my uncle who was very supportive after our loss, died less than a week later on the operating table. It is crazy to think that it is coming up on 12 years since this happened, and he would be turning 12 later this year. After suffering another early miscariage my wife had our rainbow baby, William in Feburary of 2013. He is now 10 years old. I think feeling Noah move, knowing he was a boy, even not knowing truly but later getting the confirmation, made that hurt more than the second loss (we call him/her "baby Z" at like 6 weeks gestation). Another crazy thing to think is that Noah would have been named William, because it was a name we had picked out for a boy in horor of both of my grandfathers (one whom I never had the chance to meet, and another that had passed but was one of the people, that even to this day, I held dearest to my heart). My wife and I picked Noah out and I randomly found Jackson for his middle name. Noah Jackson, I still love you to this day, and one day I will see you. Also a fun fact for William, he has a second middle name "George" who was my uncle that passed away so close to Noah's passing.

Those scars we carry with us on our hearts never heal fully do they. I lost my Dad back in 1983 when I was a boy, I still dream about him to this day. These are the moments that keep us grounded in the fact that this is temporary situation, and not to waste it.
