Those Barris rumors are true. He tried claiming the BTTF Delorean in his shop was screen used and that he was the original designer. It was such a bad copy and all of us in the Delorean community would cringe when someone would bring up that "Fact"
@thejimmycaththeatre41263 жыл бұрын
Have you looked up how George barris in the early 2000’s got his hands on a screen used Back to the future 3 delorean? He was asked to prepare it for display at the Peterson. It was criminal what he did to that car. He sprayed the windows black, so he didn’t have to work on the inside. He would also attach Christmas lights to the back of the car. Thank god it would later receive a proper restoration. But he had nothing to do with the original builds of the time machine. That honour goes to Kevin Pike and his team at filmtrix.

@12:29 you flashed up the Mad Max Pursuit Special. Barrow never built that one, even if he claims he did. The movie's art director Jon Dowding designed the Interceptor and commissioned Melbourne-based car customizers Graf-X International to modify the Ford GT Falcon.
@katerinazhu62683 жыл бұрын
He wasn't involved in the Back to the Future franchise. His only involvement was the Petersen museum hiring him prepare a BTTF screen used car for display. He put a bunch of junk (including red duct tape), drilled nonsensical brackets into the body, removed Mr Fusion, and spray painted black the entire interior/windows. The restorers described Barris's work as "atrocities".

@6:05 Honestly I had more run ins with George Barris than I would have liked to, See im a pinstriper by trade, and have done the car show game for a long time. Take my cars or trucks to pre 63 car shows and Barris was at almost every one of them as a Guest of honor and a person to bring more people in tgat dont really go to car shows, and if he wasn't the center of attention god he got pissed. Back in 2008 we were at a show called West Coast cruising nationals and Bareis was in the main hall with all the big namers in the Kustom seen, well i was paid to do a pinstriping job in the booth next to his and everything was going fine until he noticed i had a small crowd around me well i was pinstriping this nice little RATROD and that SOB came over and said i had to leave because i was taking away his fans that could be paying for pictures with him and buying his crappy over priced merch.... I told him I would be done in a hr and would be gone but he didn't want that so he had his people go get the main guys that were putting the show on and tell them i spilled paint on some of his sh!t but i had just gotten done pinstriping and lettering the promoters 1950 merc so he knew it was BS but had to ask me to wait until "KING BARRIS" took a lunch to finish the job, so i did and the owner and builder of the RATROD was so pleased with my work he tipped an extra 150 on top of paying for the work i just did. But Barris walks back in and sees the work i did and told the owner that the pinstriping made the RATROD look even worse than it did before as a RATROD. Than had the balls to ask me if we could get together and i could do some side work for him even knowing he had his own in house pinstriper, i told him nicely i would love to but said i don't step on the toes of other artists and felt like it would give me a bad name in the industry that made him even more unhappy with me but Honestly I could give a sh!t less if i ever worked him ever. The Barris head was way to big for his fat little girl body... @pinstripingbybear on Instagram!

Hi Craig good video. Barris took credit for a lot of things he wasn’t involved with. The two prominent examples are the Monkeemobile and Black Beauty which were built by Dean Jeffries. So he was trying on the same stunt with you. I never understood why it was so difficult for older hot rodders to embrace tuners. I got into the tuner scene while developing products for TRD back int the late 90s to mid 2000s. I loved the tuners because the reminded me of Camaro, Chevelles and Cudas I cut my teeth on. Cars are cars and it should all be one big brotherhood of gear heads.

I remember Indian Larry talking about how he loved exposed wires and plumbing, saying how it makes the bike more visceral and mechanical. Like an actual machine, as opposed to a piece of candy. I liken it to the appeal of a great steam engine, where you can see all the pistons and valves and gubbins working away. Barris seems to have gravely misconstrued that statement. All of the wires and tubes on Larry’s choppers actually had a purpose.

There are actually two Barris's. There's George, who everyone knows (who really was just a promoter, hence bad design sense), and then his older brother Sam, who was the real genius (sam died in 1967). I would suggest looking up Sam, and you will actually regain a lot of respect for the Barris name, as Sam was responsible for a large amount of the most iconic 1950s customs, and custom car trends which continue on till this day!

I have been thinking for a long time about doing videos about car design, specially about how we idealize some names, and Barris is on the top spots of the list....

The Barris cars you like, were probably all built by his brother Sam. George was never a designer, however his brother Sam was the real deal. Thats why there was a drastic change in design at the Barris shop in 1960 when Sam stepped away. That being said, George photographed everything and did the world a major service by documenting basically everything they did.

From his actions of claiming a lot of cars that he never created, who's to say he truly wasn't the one who created the Batmobile either? I mean this guy has told so many lies and has tried to claim so many vehicles, who's to say he's a big fraud from beginning 🤔 I mean it was the fifties after all, there wasn't a lot of forms of getting your name out there kind of like how there is with social media and the internet nowadays, who's to say he didn't rip it off of somebody and steal their idea and come out with it before the guy had anything to say about it that actually created the design and who's to say his whole life all his Vehicles he supposedly created are the same way and it's not just the Batmobile 🤔 I mean look at the cars he has gained that we know for a fact he worked on and then go back and look at those old Vehicles that he supposedly created, yeah something doesn't add up, because I know for a fact he didn't create the Back to the Future DeLorean, Robert Zemeckis did, and the Mad Max Intercepter was created by Murray Smith, Peter Arcadipane, Ray Beckerly, and James Ward, and the Ghostbusters ecto-1 was created by Steven Dane, so its like yeah....... I wouldn't be surprised if KITT from Knight Rider was stolen too or the Munster vehicles just nothing documented......

Yes there were cars Barris Kustom didn't buid that George took some credit for but the cars he did build were built and designed under the Barris Kustom business nane . Barris kustom did build cars for Knight rider, the Super purist mode and the convertible cars and also the right hand drive blind car. Tom Daniels and George designed the Munsters Koach and yes Tom was a big name back then but he did it paid for under the Barris kustom name so it's a Barris car..

@Vegas he shouldn't have sold his GTR 34 skyline... Also want to. Know what he feels about Tokyo.. Drift... Cuz I heard drift King actually did some of the stuns of the movie.. And it goes back to that anime called initial D that's where I got introduced to the STIs.. GtRs.. Rx7s... Which was basically inspired of true events by the drift King.. And he had something to do with it.. That's why it's so realistic and good...
