The fan is making that buzzing noise because the motor windings are starting to vibrate. This happens because the varnish is aging. Reapplying varnish to the motor windings will quiet it down but this means taking the entire thing apart. This is pretty common on these depression era Westinghouse fans. I have had a few do that in the past. Oiling it will benefit the fan but will not get rid of that buzzing sound.
@thesunreport
@thesunreport Жыл бұрын
That sounds like a good idea. I didn't think it was the noise of the motor because the pitch didn't change as the fan got up to speed.
@alanb8620
@alanb8620 Жыл бұрын
Yes, I believe you are correct about the windings. Because it sounds like a 60 hz buzz. As soon as it is plugged in, the buzz starts the buzz is immediate. If it was the armature the sound would chang as it starts or slips down. Correct diagnosises. Sir

Such a beautiful fan. I've heard it explained that the iron plates vibrate, like a transformer but perhaps a fan motor is different. Great info in your comment, thank you.

Been collecting WW2 Militaria for years now. Easiest way to check these patches is with a black light. The originals won’t glow, but the synthetic materials in the repops will.

The ball bearing in the brass socket in the back of the fan motor is in fact for oiling the bearing.. one could push the tip of an oil can into the bearing which as a spring behind it and get a squirt in. I see that there is one on the front (fan side) bearing as well. I could see that the motor needs some lubrication by how it was acting when you turned the blade by hand. It should spin a bit. Give both bearings a squirt of light machine oil like 3 in 1 , sewing machine oil, or something similar. On the skateboard guitar you won't get $400. My guess as a guitar collector that if you're lucky you'll get back out of it what you paid for it. It's just that it doesn't have any collectable value at all, and it's sale as you mentioned will rely on someone thinking it's cool and if it plays and sounds good.

WOW! Nice KISS poster! That should go fast! Pete you did a video a week or so ago talking about your operating expense. You forgot to include the maintenance cost of your guard animals. Use light oil, like mineral oil or ThreeInOne Oil on that fan. The fan motor may also have bushings that can be replaced. Regarding the typewriter, I saw you had a similar problem in another video. Make sure that you have the margins set properly because they are what stop the carriage from moving. I made a lot of money typing Pete and I started out on an old "manual" like this.

Mr. Pete im a vintage electronics & game collector and steamer & have lots of PC equipment, games, etc and the most valuable part on most things is the cord connection. I noticed when you plug things in you place the cord under the item, which both tugs & crushes the cord. This overtime gets the item to not work. I have 1990s items but you have older items that may be not as strong. Just beware of the cord, blessings

A lot of authentic WWII patches usually don't have borders around them. I think it's 80/20 80% repo 20% authentic WWII. I would take the fan to an alternator repair shop to see if they can diagnose the issue. Yes that's an oil lubrication point and 3 drops is all you need. The WWII poster was to make sure people weren't talking about the projects they were working on since a lot of women were employed in the war factory's.

Gibson style bridge, pick-up & knobs probably off a Chinese Epiphone and a Squire neck. Fun garage project. My uncle and I have made a couple Frankenstein benchmade guitars. You can however buy high end necks and hardware and get a fair price for unique guitar. This is probably a $175-$200 guitar in a retail shop setting.

I have information on the SECOND WWII poster. The second poster was created to inform citizens about how sharing army/military information may cost the lives of the men serving in WWII. This also was in reference to things like sending letters with specific information, both from citizens to soldiers and soldiers to citizens. There were also spies within the USA, and these were to help remind people to mind themselves when talking about information that could be used against the USA. These were used not only used state side, but also at camps where soldiers were across the world to deter them from being too information heavy in their letters. There are REPRINTS available online, so make sure it is original. It looks like a lesser condition one online is listed for $245, so I think you if it is genuine that you guys made a good deal.
