The reality is the SEC only “just means more” at 3-4 schools. Nick Saban alone is responsible for 7 national championships for the conference this century. Without him, what is the SEC today? The Ole Miss, South Carolina fans of the world will shout “SEC”, when the reality is there program can’t even hold the jock strap of a program like Alabama or LSU.

SEC fan for seven decades. IMHO competition improves the fan experience. If we dominated all the time it would be boring. I'm not a fan of NIL and the Portal but I understand I just have to live with it. If parity of talent is the result then the new difference maker will be coaching and I see nothing wrong with that.

You I never hear how skewed the rankings were during the past two decades….remeber in 2004 when auburn was 12-0 sec champs and they were left out of the championship game? Then a few years later ESPN sign the SEC contract to be their flagship conference…..then all of a sudden we started hearing about how good the SEC was all over TV and then the top 10 was being dominated in the rankings by SEC which gives the SEC more of a chance to get their flagship conference in the big game…..fast forward to this playoff system and we see SEC is not this elite conference with every single team that can win a title….in fact it looks like the second or third best conference when they are paired up with other conferences

Now that college football is committed to a REAL playoff tournament, every team in every conference will need to earn the National title on the field. The actual first round playoff games ARE THE DATA POINTS. The best scenario would be to eliminate “selection committees” altogether. Personally, I would take the AP top 16 after the final regular season game and eliminate conference championship games. We don’t need a committee for selections or seeding. If a group of 5 makes it, great. If not, oh well. No byes, top 8 get home games. Next round top 4 surviving seeds get home games. Semis will be major bowl and Title game a bowl. We do this every year in high school football , and every year the true champion wins the title.

Texas has more money than any four major college programs combined. The wealthiest program in the Big 10 has an endowment of around 19 billion, Texas has an endowment of just under 50 billion. Texas A&M has way more money than most people think. As for the rest of the SEC, outside of Alabama and Georgia, schools definitely have less money than an average Big 10 program, so I understand your point.

@CertifiedClapaholic You're technically correct, schools aren't currently allowed to DIRECTLY contribute to NIL. This doesn't prevent schools like Texas from using their considerable wealth and influence to build relationships with companies that will, in turn, contribute to that school's collectives. Texas is legally able to build relationships with companies who eventually contribute cash or services back to the Texas One collective. We've all heard of Texas players getting Lamborghinis, some also get access to private jets. These things are a result of Texas' ability to indirectly contribute to NIL. Paint it any color you like, but Texas' vast wealth advantage has played and will continue to play a major role in NIL. We also know that it's only a matter of time before schools are allowed to pay players directly. If they don't build guardrails into any future NIL policies then you'll begin to see schools like Texas separate themselves from everyone else..... Which I don't think is a good thing. Not to mention that the list you've provided largely contains schools who can never construct a powerhouse football program due to their high academic standards. Princeton and Yale aren't lowering their academic standards so they can win a natty.

Maybe the NCAA will figure out how to leave those bogus rankings out of the "equation" of determining a "strength of schedule" and just go by records. David is on to something that can at least keep these hacks from overranking teams in the Severely Exaggerated Conference and when it comes down to the finish the best teams with the best records head to the bracket and the rest wait for another season.

That’s actually a really good point I’d never thought of. 6 of the 13 of the SEC’s recent championships were won by the greatest college football coach ever who just happened to coach in the SEC. Too many people are using emotion instead of logic in this argument. If you get rid of emotion and just look at the facts, you'll see that it's clearly not over for the SEC. Does the SEC still recruit really well, get tons of guys via the transfer portal, and have mostly good coaches? Yes, yes, and yes. These are essentially the only things that matter when it comes to winning in college football, so if you are checking these boxes then the results will come. You will have your ebbs and flows but over time the results will absolutely come.

Big Ten Buckeye fan here. The SEC will continue to be the deepest conference top to bottom, and I don't think it will be close. What may change is the super elite teams at the top of the SEC may not always dominate CFB and the national title may be more of a mix of teams from various conferences. H.S. recruiting still matters and the South still rules in that sense. sEC teams should continue to be filled with excellent players and the conference will be deep with teams that can play anyone on any given day. The B1G will do well and will pluck some players from the South but not to the level that it depletes the talent pool to such an extent that SEC teams can't win and make the playoffs.

The post season results suggest that this year the Big Ten is stronger top to bottom. The criticism of the Big Ten having 3-4 great teams and the edge over the SECs top 3-4, with the SEC being far superior in the 4-8th best did not materialize this year. It should be highly concerning to SEC proponents when 7 seed OSU flays 8 seed Tennessee, 7-5 Michigan with its practice squad beats Alabama, or when Illinois beats South Carolina which had a huge point spread. And there was a highly mediocre USC beating Texas A and M and LSU. It could be argued that the entire mantra of the SEC having more great and good teams than anyone else was a mirage. At the same time, it wouldn't surprise me if next year the SEC does to the Big Ten what the Big Ten has done so far to the SEC.

Will you build a sustainable winning environment? No. Look at FSU. So the SEC is done bc the SEC rosters are more talented top to bottom and they beat up on each other and occasionally lose to the top end teams in the Big 10? Just trying to follow the logic. So we thought the SEC was the best bc they beat up on each other while 1-2 teams still dominated those same top teams from other conferences? I’m not sure I buy the argument after a one year sample size. I will say one thing….The NIL could go 1-2 ways. Either billionaires like Larry Ellison give Michigan a 50M annual budget and only 4-5 teams match it, equating to loaded rosters spread around a very small handful of schools…OR…..Many schools step up and pay players.. And it’s not roster spots 1-15 where this matters….It’s 16-50, where by the time the playoffs roll around, your 2-3rd stringer is a 4-5 Star future NFL player… It’s too early to tell which path carries the day.

No one has more money than the B1G schools. Their alumni is full of rich professionals. The academics of Michigan, Penn St, Ohio State etc are far beyond the schools of the south. Notre Dame, USC. These schools have alumni bases that make schools like Alabama and Georgia literally look like poverty. Now that it’s legal for these alumni bases to pay players it’s not even close. So basically what I’m saying is it pays to stay in school.

idk about more than the others combined lol but i don't think it's a huge stretch to say they'll win the most. People are *hugely* overreacting to a slightly down year at the top of the SEC, but as a whole it is still the strongest conference, even this year, from top to bottom. The top 3 of the Big 10 is stronger than the top 3 of the SEC this year, you'll get no arguments there from me, but the bottom 3/4 of the SEC is significantly stronger than the bottom 3/4 of the Big 10 (or any other conference). Even the cellar dwellers are fairly capable teams that on a good day can give you a fight. The easiest way to counter the "SEC is done" argument is to think about it logically and get emotion out of the argument. Does SEC still recruit really well, get tons of guys via the transfer portal, and have mostly good coaches? Yes, yes, and yes. These are essentially the only things that matter when it comes to winning in college football, so if you are checking these boxes then the results will come. You will have your ebbs and flows but over time the results will absolutely come.

The $EC will win natty’s here and there but it won’t have a run like it has for the past 20yrs. NIL has allowed schools to do without penalty what the $EC did brazenly, BRIBE PLAYERS. Not only that what is slowly being revealed is outside of Texas, TAMU, and Alabama (for now), the donor class in the $EC doesn’t have money like schools from the B1G Ten whose donors have cavernously deep pockets. For years B1G schools and Notre Dame wouldn’t hand over wads of cash like $EC schools because they were “too virtuous” NIL has taken care of that and God forbid Andrew Luck’s able to activate those tech billionaires from Stanford as a collective then stick a fork in the $EC.

The SEC has been the best over the past ~25 years but hasn't been the best over the past 2. Being the best doesn't require being the best every year. The addition of the PAC 4-bloc is a booster shot, but economic, cultural, and demo changes will bring the B1G down from its current highwater mark.

Auburn may not make the playoffs this year, but we will be "back" this year. I think everyone will see that while they are not championship level yet, but they are back to the scrappy teams that every one of you knows throughout the years. The kind that every few years they can make a run at it (2013-2019 levels of Auburn) and to my auburn fellows, if that sounds bad to you keep in mind in those seven years we won an sec chip, runner up in 17, and a national championship runner up first year, with no losing seasons. ZERO. ALL BEFORE THE EXTENDED PLAYOFF. Runs are coming OTV!!!! WDE!!!! Keep an eye out for that TAMU Game early in the season on the road and hear the echoes of Rod Bramblett in 2013 under identical circumstances beating Johnny football that year, saying "Auburn serves notice to the college football world that THEY. ARE. BACK!!!!!!" Every Program eventually bounces back. War Eagle!

Football Only Super Conference 48 teams Enact a draft just like they do in the nfl. If HS players want to play in this super league, they have to agree to play for whichever program drafts them for at least 3 years(with 1-2 exceptions. Like a sick parent that requires them to live closer to home or something similar), then after 3 years they can transfer wherever they want. Players get 1 transfer allotment, with exception to coaching change. Enact a Salary cap just like nfl. This would maximize parity, which keeps more fanbases interested, engaged, & ie MONETIZED... Bama, UGA, Tenn, LSU, Ole Miss, UF, Texas, OU, TAMU, Mizzou, Auburn, SC, Kentucky, Ark OSU, Michigan, PSU, Wash, USC, Ore, Wisc, Neb, Iowa, Indiana, Minn, MState, Illinois Clemson, FSU, ND, Miami, LVille, VTech, UNC, NCState, GTech, SMU Utah, WVU, OkieSt, TCU, BYU, KState, Colorado, Texas Tech, Kansas, IowaSt, AState The more parity, the more diverse the engagement & engagement = revenues. If they deployed this model, revenues would be 2-3 times what they are now. Then make a separate super league for basketball. So programs with a good football & basketball program would see massive increases in revenues. Compared to a team like UGA which is football only really. This way you are maximizing both quality, fairness, & parity. This would be the optimal model to pursue, while some "bluebloods" would not like it because it would level the field, ultimately this is what would generate the most revenues.

So Penn States best win was Illinois, Indiana only played one ranked team and lost, and they finished 2nd and 3rd in the B1G? No, the SEC isn’t crashing out. They are the deepest with the most parity. They won’t have a bunch of soft easy B1G schedules because they are over bloated with 18 teams and only 2 that realistically can win a natty. The SEC has 5-6 that could realistically win the natty with the talent they have, unfortunately they have to play eachother. The B1G is Oregon and Ohio State, then a massive drop off. When the teams that finished 2 and 3 in the conference had a combined 1 ranked win during the season out of a grand total of 3 ranked games, you can’t talk about how deep the B1G is. NIL. Transfer portal. My favorite, conference realignment. I may be old schooled on this but the SEC should have never expanded. Even with A&M and Mizzou. Pac12 should still be alive and well. The ACC shouldnt have west coast or teams from Texas. Regionality is made cfb so special to begin with. The slogan "It Means More" meant more in the past because the pride of the conference relied heavily on quality of teams and the tradition of those 12. Now its just full of decent to good teams and they'll just beat each other up, essentially a conference eating itself.
