Wow, another great video, simple to understand, covered most the options out there, and you do a great job of not overwhelming. I really appreciate that. Having said that, I’ll contradict myself,, knowing what the crankbait differences are is in reality just the starting point, now we have to learn how to fish them, such as proper rods, line type an weight, angler induced action, conditions and I’m sure much more. Crank baits could be a whole series of videos. I really like your instruction style, your tips are always great. Thanks for taking the time to put these videos out and pass forward your knowledge and experience.

Yeah Ive got a whole lot of ideas for crankbaits. I will need to break them down into styles otherwise theres just to many crankbaits to discuss. It would be an hour long video.

Browsing for crankbait info and came across this video. I'm glad I did! While I'm not new to fishing, I've never really employed crankbaits, this information is great. Now it's time to take my boys to the tackle shop and buy a few types to experiment with!

Have you tried the Strike King Hybrid? That's a different bill also. They go from top water on down. I think they're awesome! Also I would like to find a medium heavy rod to throw light lures. Hope you can recommend. Also for anyone reading this, I would like some feedback.

Thx for this nice video...can u comment on the angle of the lip or its length.in relation to action or how far it dive..,?.

generally the more parallel to the bait the deeper it dives and the more perpendicular to the bait the shallower it dives

Awesome video and great information! I have a question about flat side cranks, do they still get bit good when water warms up throughout the summer? I kinda get confused with all the different views on only fish it in colder water
@MattStefanFishing3 жыл бұрын
Yes they do. I like to look at it as they excel in early spring, but then all the other wider wobbling crankbaits get better as the water warms. Therefore, they all work at that point and the flat sides no longer have their luster. But they still work well. The fish also start going deeper as the water warms and its hard to get flat sides down to them.

Quick question, when retrieving these baits do you always just have a steady retrieve or do you stop an go? Do you ever use your rod on the retrieve or do you always use you reel on the retrieve?
@MattStefanFishing3 жыл бұрын
Ill do everything but straight retrieve. So ill impart action with both the rod and reel. Its really important to change the pace of the crankbait. That's what generates the majority of the bites so id recommend not just straight retrieving.

Matt, best information I have seen on any video on this topic! Good job. I may have missed a video on this topic, but I would much appreciate knowing if you have special ways or techniques for handling Fluorocarbon line. I believe I know its advantages, but since I started using it about 6 months ago, I am developing a hate hate relationship. I have tried line conditioners, and it still drives me crazy. I believe I have found Seaguar InviszX to be the easiest to work. I am using it mostly on baitcasters, and its making me crazy. A video with some hands on and tips would help me I believe. It wouldn't hurt to see you catch a 5 lber with it. Thanks.

Hey Matt. Really enjoy watching your videos and trying to learn some more about this sport I enjoy so much. I have a question though. What are you thoughts on red hooks both treble for cranks and EWG for plastics?
@MattStefanFishing3 жыл бұрын
I honestly haven't seen a difference in performance when using one hook color over the other. Sorry I don't have a better response but I'm indifferent. I prefer black before red, and would take both well before I used silver.

HI Matt. New subscriber. Thanks for this information. I have always been a little confused by some of the bill shapes and the benefits of each. Can you maybe follow up with L-shaped bills? I would guess that is a wake style?
@MattStefanFishing3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for subscribing! I actually thought about putting the L shape in the video. The "L" bill is designed to be a shallower running bait usually diving 3-6ft deep creating a tight wobble. It can be a great diving lip in high pressured areas!
@travelsalottofish2 жыл бұрын
I've seen L shaped bills on crankbaits. I'd love to know how they work in the water. I really can't seem to find anything about them. If you could give any examples that would be greatly appreciated
@MattStefanFishing2 жыл бұрын
tight wobble with good deflection but dont run as deep

Can you do updated video of this with new bills and the other bills you said you were not going get can you get into and tell us about them and specialty bills and bills that are unique to couple brands or a brand. Please and thank you I would like it and appreciate it. And do it for jerkbaits. And can say what the (Rapala shallow shad rap or strike king hybrid Hunter) bill is and what the bill is on a Rapala scatter rap? And a round bill wake crankbait?

The reason why we do not see a lot of circuit board lips is cost. Most production lures have a molded lip. To use a circuit board requires machining to produce and assembly to the lure with adhesives. Too many steps…..
