Watched the television series and it’s brilliant. There should be more stuff on television like it. Similar to when Fred Dibnah was on. It’s called the Peak Forest canal because it was supposed to carry on from Buggy basin all the way to Chesterfield passing through a little village called Peak Forest but they couldn’t do it because there’s too much rise over the hills to get through and it would have taken too many lock gates. Keep up the good work.

@jon jon so good they named you twice eh? Did you look up paedophilia on an american dictionary site. Good job you have nothing better to do than tar everybody with the same brush. I am sure the BBC would have been prosecuted if they were guilty. Robbie is just trying to make a living by producing great videos, whereas your 'job', trolling, is not classified as a job. BTW you don't need 2 full stops at the end of a sentence. (.!)

The fact that the proposed route was in limestone country was also a major concern - keeping a canal watertight over limestone would be near impossible

Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the 'Diaries'. I'm a canal nerd and have been since the mid 1960s when I surveyed all of the sites in the midlands where a canal had a common boundary with the railway, so many of the places that you covered are familiar to me. My wife, who is not so enthusiastic, was also impressed by the series and we both hope that you are able to do more.

Enjoyed the video, Robbie. It brought back a few memories. When I was a teenager in the Seventies I used to have a Saturday job at the Swizzels factory. I remember working in a fog of sweet dust as I tried to sweep the place clean (impossible task!) and having communal brew-ups of industrial-strength tea from a huge teapot. My late father worked at Swizzels for many years and we still have a photo of him alongside Princess Diana when she visited the factory. Happy days.

I see our notorious Canada Geese have migrated to the UK. In Canada we call them Cobra Chickens because of their aggressive behaviour. Lovely birds but a huge nuisance in public parks where their poop makes many places unusable. They are constantly grazing but their digestive system is basically a 20 minute round trip from grass to poop. Love your channel, cheers !

I really hope you get to do an Autumn/Winter series for the BBC. The common trend it seems is for all these films being shot for spring/summer but the "real life" includes winter as well does it not? After all, as boaters all know, it's not all about beautiful weather and G&T's on a pretty afternoon cruise. And for narrowboating, you're the man to show how it's done Mr Cumming. Love your work.

Congrats on the BBC series. I watched all five. I liked the added dimension of the drone footage and you and the team did an excellent job of cramming so many miles into each 29 minute long episodes. I am sure it gave non-boaters a good insight into canal life. However, your KZbin videos are far superior! Your comment that New Mills is a tourist town. TBH, I don't think New Mills has ever been considered a tourist town. It's an old industrial mill town and not long ago was quite run down, but it has improved a bit and I love it, it's an honest, friendly town in a beautiful and interesting location. I don't know why specifically they named the canal "Peak Forest" but there is a small village by nearby Chapel-en-le-Frith called Peak Forest. I wish I was up there now, but the canal at Bollington will be closed until March :( Great to have you back on KZbin mate!

Just to let you know there are tons of moorings in Whaley Bridge, just moor by the Tesco down in the valley, they're CRT long term moorings but they're hardly ever used and always empty, everyone moors there when visiting. And Whaley is worth a visit, a pretty village with several good pubs, my favourite being the Goyt Inn, a boater's pub near the canal basin full of canal paraphenalia. Loved your series and watched each episode several times on BBC i player, you passed my boat in it moored at Bugsworth Basin and in this video too! The blue one at the beginning. I did the same trip as you did in the series this summer, into Liverpool and back, though went down the Macc, up the Trent and Mersey, diverting to spend two weeks on the Weaver down the Anderton Boat Lift (well worth a visit) and round the Cheshire Ring to the Bridgewater then into Liverpool from there.
