I had an accounting prof (twice), who started off each semester with, "When you're working on a balance sheet for hours and hours and it still won't balance, stop, go to the fridge, slam down 5 beers as fast as you can. It still won't balance, but you won't care." :-)

Loving the new series, Robbie. Thank you so much. Not only wonderful entertainment but I am learning a lot about our country. My maternal grandfather was a bargee in Birmingham in the early part of the twentieth century and although I've never been on a narrow boat I love anything to do with canals and narrow boats. Listening to your comments about your lifestyle and your young lady and the dichotomy it presents, can I give you this advice? I lost my darling wife and soul mate two years ago and I have been a lost soul ever since. We had twenty five wonderfully happy years together and I am so grateful. I even had to fly to Ireland, I who had never previously left these shores, to be with her, even having to leave a needy and blackmailing mother. I am here to tell you that the most important thing you can have in your life is the love and companionship of a wonderful partner. Love is the most important thing you can have. Shalom.🐨

Hi Robbie. 18 hours stuck because of wind and weed is an awful prospect. I might have a solution. I said, "I might". Think your boat's heavy? It weighs only the water it's displacing. So, try this. Attach a long rope, about the length of the 'Naughty Lass', to somewhere central on the roof and at least a third of the boat's length from the prow. go ahead and pull. Just lean back and keep the pressure on, no need to break your back doing it. The boat will move and in no time you'll be able to keep up a gentle walking pace. This way, you won't have to go down the weed hatch at all. If the wind is blowing you onto the side, it'll be more difficult, so you'll have to pull harder to get the pace up, but this time, tie your tiller over so that the rudder is wanting to turn the boat off the side and into the wind. This can vary from well over, but not too far, for a strong wind to almost centre for a light wind. Once you've got the pace up, the rudder should keep you off the side. My 'get out' clause is that I said it might work. I've done it myself and it worked for me. Good luck and please keep the videos coming. I'm enjoying them immensely. EDIT. Ah! Sorry Robbie, I see that further down, it's been suggested and you've tried it. Still amazing vids though, so thanks again for them.

Hi Rob. Another excellent video. I saw your pain with the weed. I'm unsure about narrow boats, but on our Scouting rib we a weed and rope cut fitted. Rope Cutters Protect your prop from being fouled by rope or weeds. The simple shaft driven rope cutter rotates with the shaft, which in turn instantly cuts any rope, weeds or debris picked up or snagged by the propeller. All Prop Protector rope and weed cutters are made from 316 stainless steel. There are clamp on or slide on versions for imperial or metric shafts. Clamp on rope cutters are available with an extra large blade version too.

you need to read the joy of shelves. although I've done plenty of boating I do not have one yet, while looking though I am increasingly thinking about alternative designs like having an a refillable LPG tank and a solid nose as I allways think the cratch area is underused along with roof space and head lockers. Van life has a lot of ideas for a small boat. I love the idea of having an actuated bed over a dinette so you raise the bed to the roof to eat or work but can also have a double bunk bed set up. have you thought of weaving blanket weed into a floor mat? or roof mat to cool the boat in hot weather.
