This reminds me of when you damage a wing on a plane in GTA San Andreas, it starts shaking exactly like what's seen here. Never thought it was realistic, but here we are!
@Michael.Chapman3 жыл бұрын
Engineers call that flapping phenomenon 'flutter'. In severe cases it can shake an aircraft apart. The first 747-100's had inherent flutter during certain flight tests. From memory, this was solved by placing weights of depleted uranium (very dense like lead) in the wing tips. In this case here did the Viper hit the runway or was the wing overstressed on pull-up?
@Zhengergiser3 жыл бұрын
@@Michael.Chapman You're right. I just thought that wing flutter would occur at a much higher frequency than how they portrayed it in GTA SA. On other aircraft when flutter occurs, the frequency tends to be quite high, and structural failure occurs within seconds of it starting. Very lucky that it wasn't the case for this jet!
@yodaiam10003 жыл бұрын
@@Michael.Chapman It is generally fixed with a tuned mass damper. It is a mass, a spring and a viscous damper. The wing lost a bunch of vertical stiffness due to the damage of the collision which causes the flutter.

What did he hit? It happened so fast I couldn’t tell. Was it a bird? It looked to be on the correct flight path for this maneuver.
Yeah, I have a rule about that. Always maintain some sky between obstacles and my plane. And the runway's centerline is my hard wall. No closer. Never fly directly towards the pits/crowd. Okay, several rules.
@MartinPickering-PickeringRC2 жыл бұрын

@@MartinPickering-PickeringRC How you doing, Martin? I was fortunate enough to have been trained by two accomplished pattern pilots. They taught me well.
