As a life long volvo fan this brought a tear to my eye. The car my parents drove me home from the hospital in after I was first born was a volvo 360. As was the first car I done any work on, was a volvo 240 turbo (age 3, changed a head light bulb - my Dad told me how to do it and he done the dangerous bits). The first car I drove was a volvo 740 turbo. Next year I will get my driving licence and hope to buy a volvo (unfortunately however after looking at quotes for not only volvo's but various other cars, I've learned insurance companies - for some obscure, sick reason - tend to charge young driver more for a safe car than they would a shitty little death trap. *Cough cough, 1998 vauxhall corsa*). But regardless of cost (even if I have to hold back a year or two), my first car will be a volvo. As will the first car my children will be on, and so on...

My grandma has had only volvos her entire life. she's on her ninth right now and 2 of those 9 have been totaled, from a head on collision and hitting a bull moose in northern NH. both crashes she had only a few scratches and bruises. volvo makes amazing cars and if you care for your safety I highly suggest a Volvo because I believe if she was in any other car it could've turned out very differently.

Very well done. Volvo is probably the only manufacturer that didn't get less than perfect marks in 2013 when the small overlap first came out. Almost everyone either failed or marginally passed, Volvo did it with flying colors on day 1.

I know. It's amazing that they built such a safe vehicle that wasn't redesigned to pass this test. It shows that Volvo thinks ahead. I watched a documentary about Volvo, and apparently they send investigators out to research every crash in which a person died in a Volvo vehicle. That's dedication.

IIHS's small overlap test, like the one shown in the video, is conducted at 40 mph, according to iihs.org. One thing to keep in mind though, is that in this test, only 25% of the vehicle's front crumple zones must do all the work of absorbing the crash energy. In the majority of other frontal crash tests, at least 40% of the front of the vehicle collides with a crushable barrier. In this test 25% of the front of the vehicle collides with a rigid barrier. This is an extremely challenging test.

It just makes sense to drive a Volvo. Reliability, safety, quality, luxury, simplicity, technologic. People who drive Volvos know what they're doing with they're finances and care for their family. I've been driving my last Volvo for years and since put over 200k carefree miles on it until my wreck in 2011. I will never drive anything else.

I have a 2010 XC60. It is a superb car. Extremely comfortable, lots of storage space and elegant styling. Very reliable after 4 years of ownership. My other Volvos a previously owned V70 and a current S60 are also very reliable. Volvos are great cars and compared to their German counterparts, a complete bargain in the US. Much cheaper to service too.

'This was a legal way most of the time it isn't.' Kindly explain how this time 'it's legal'.. whilst most of the time..it's not? Actually the question is not 'is it legal'.?. but 'Is it ethical'.. i.e.- Is it good business practice..when you take the hard work and research and investment time and dollars of one company that are experts in the business and sincere in improving car safety for the sakes of less deaths and serious injuries on the roads and simply buy it all because you're flush with money to improve your own sales figures, and because you have failed miserably at producing safe cars without any concern for the ethos and principles of that company..?? I think this is just 'new money' buying up and benefiting itself for sheer financial gain without doing any of the hard work for it and having invested NOTHING in the company's ethos. Legal..maybe..Ethical..never. Cheap trick really, cheap trick.

Looking at reviews the XC60 is overall a fantastic car and I see now why Volvo has been called the safest brand. They were making small overlap crashes safe for their customers before IIHS made it a mandatory crash test. Even luxury BMW failed. Think we'll be getting out of the CR-V for this one

Note also that IIHS is NOT a federal NCAP requirement, but SOME companies do it on SOME cars anyways irrespective of that. And they work and engineer and develop their car to pass the SORB crash test anyways.

I've noticed that volvos in the small overlap test always sort of 'deflect' to the side instead of bouncing back to a stop like pretty much every other car, I don't see this behaviour even in Benz's. Is this something to do with the design?
@sergevivier95610 жыл бұрын
Yes , the design, what Volvo have done on all of their vehicle is to attach the A pillard and door post structure to the solid frame under the hood. This design makes the vehicle deflect away from the obsticle. IIHS has a video on the design.

"FREAKISHLY talented 12 year old predicts structural crash behaviour with 99% accuracy" I'll take that as a compliment! Thanks!!!

you make valid points that i overlooked. they need to has a head on test with a wall of sorts that structurally compresses in a way that would mimic that of another vehicle. I also think there should be a crash test that is standard that has to be done at 55 mph.

Today, I was turning at a green light and I had a collision with another lady and it was so fast and traumatic and just plain intense but my sister and I were THANK GOD okay (and of course it depends on the situation) we were'nt on the freeway or anything but in the volvo (and it was a S40 so pretty small) I felt like I was protected in a steal tank and only have slight bruise on my chest from the seatbelt.

I really like these types of videos, informative and interesting. Although, I would have liked to have seen inside the passenger compartment after the accident, particularly the footwell as it looked like the front wheel was causing a fair bit of damage to that area.

It's always "YOU are the one that cussed me out" rather than "I am the one that cussed him out first." Like I said - you take after Bill O'Reilly. He does the EXACT same thing. It's ALWAYS everybody else's problem FIRST and HE has nothing to do with it. Papa Bear would be proud of you. He's taught you well. You learned it from the best person you could possibly have gotten that characteristic from. Congratulations! You're Bill Jr.!

What's the suspended blue car at 0:08? And also, does anyone know what the song at the end is, or songs or genres like it?
