Notes: 3.Epithelial tissues Two kinds: PROPER/PRIMARY EPITHELIUM (covers & lines the outer and inner body) and GLANDULAR EPITHELIUM (forms the glands and secretes hormones & other substances). Epithelial tissues are Avascular (not associated with or supplied by blood vessels). They instead rely on the blood supply to the Connective tissues around them for the materials they need. Criteria for classification of Epithelial cells: Shape of the individual cells and the number of layers that they form in. THREE BASIC SHAPES: SQUAMOUS cells (flattened shape and flat nucleus, fast absorption and diffusion, making thin membranes). CUBOIDAL cells (spherical nucleus, cuboidal cell shape, absorb nutrients and produce secretions like sweat). COLUMNAR cells (Elliptical nucleus, column shaped cell with hexagonal cross-section, tall, thick & cushion underlying tissues, absorb nutrients and produce secretions). Usually the form (shape and layering) of the epithelial cell is related to it's function/purpose. Producing cells take a lot of time, energy and raw materials. So in places where we lose a lot of cells (like outer skin or mouth) we have squamous cells because they are biologically cheaper. TYPES OF LAYERING: SIMPLE EPITHELIUM: one layer of cells. STRATIFIED: Multiple layers set up on top of each other, like bricks. PSEUDOSTRATIFIED: Mostly one layer but formed with cells of different shapes and sizes. The cells nuclei can be at a lot of different levels (i.e they don't lie on the same plane- different heights). So it looks like multi layered. NAMING OF A EPITHELIAL TISSUE: First name: Number of layers. Last name: Shape of its cells. Example: Simple squamous epithelium. All Epithelial cells are POLAR i.e they have distinct sides. The boundaries of many of these cells are 'Selectively Permeable'(Allowing for some level of absorption, filtration and excretion of substances). Example: tissues lining the small intestine allows absorption of nutrients through diffusion and active transport. This is what makes possible all interaction we have with the world since Epithelial cells line both the insides and outside of the body (U Tube) . GLANDULAR EPITHELIUM forms two different types of glands: ENDOCRINE glands (secrete hormones directly into the blood stream or to nearby cells) and EXOCRINE glands (secrete their juices into tubes or ducts that lead to the outside of the body.

summary: so in short your epithelial tissues are the outer and inner boundaries that keep everything in order. their are 3 types of cells squamous= squished and needs multiple to make a thick layer and you are able to lose some and be ok. cubodial= cube secretes things and columnar are colum lile and also secrete things. stratified means have more than 1 simple mean just having one layer and pseudostratified means looking like it multiple but it is just one layer. the top is apacal or the surface and the bottom is the base. also epithelial tissues have no blood and are polar

Draw dex yep, i'll watch it even if it comes 10 years from now ... it's just that i'm giving up physics because i don't have any willpower/discipline for self-study that's required, i'll just finish the next semester and move on to programming ... i'll be always interested in physics, just not enough to get a degree in it because when i started studying it, the amount of math was overwhelming and i totally lost all interest....should have gone for coding from the start
@TheDrawdex
@TheDrawdex 9 жыл бұрын
DakuHonoo Then you're not being taught well, or just being told what to remember to do something, and not why it's used, or where in the real world it's naturally done. I'm studying Electronic Engineering, and the math and physics involved comes naturally, just as well as the coding and making of the hardware. It's overwhelming if you see it at the big scope, but only because of the time it has been refined and re-mastered by many people that way smarter than I am, and it's long as tree branches to even end one problem. What I mean to say is, it's hard when generalized because it's hard to picture; relate, or even fathom how this works if it's being told, not shown or explained. But if anyone that has watched Crash Course has learned, when organized, well divided, and calmly exemplified, any subject can be taught to a level of understanding, not only knowing for the next test and make the teachers look good and you learn nothing from it. And coding by nature, there's no natural rule to many things, ingenuity yes. Reason? Not so much. It was just a designer's nick to do it on one way or the other, and THEN you will be overwhelmed, unless organized, well divided, and calmly exemplified. Good luck though. :D
@DakuHonoo
@DakuHonoo 9 жыл бұрын
Draw dex that's very nice of you but you're wrong ... i used to be great at math, the numbers, formulas would dance around until they fit in their place and an answer would show up...that's not happening anymore... also, i'm not studying engineering but physics, there's a bit of a difference, like i had 5 math classes covering 3 different categories? at once...it's my fault that i don't try but i lost both motivation and confidence just before i enrolled and with the kind of approach i'm not fit for a university ... i have a distinct feeling that i'm becoming a failure....and it all comes down to me never being able to motivate myself on my own... i've never tried my best for myself, only for people i cared for a lot...now i'd love to be able to... i'd love to listen to all those people who say to try my best, to just keep on going... i can't ... that's why i'm going for IT, because from my perspective it's easy, i honestly don't know anymore where i found the confidence to even think i could become a physicist, especially knowing that i'd always go for the shortcut, to try the easiest way possible
@DakuHonoo
@DakuHonoo 9 жыл бұрын
Draw dex also, i am being taught well, my teachers, professors, are great and about half my class is managing it pretty well, so i can't conclude anything else than the problem is in me

Thank you for making Crash Course! I have literally watched all of your episodes. I am stationed overseas, and I do not speak the native Turkish language...I watched these as not only for entertainment but as a refresher so when I go back to school I will not be far behind. FYI I love The Fault in Our Stars.....and I am not into tear jerkers movies.

I really wish my teachers would have made use of these videos in class... Even if English is not my first language this still makes a lot more sense than my text books ever did. I'm in my first year of university studying BSc and I think the only reason I was able to get the grades I did for science and biology was (and still is) thanks to you guys !

If a dropout student watched all your videos 3x a day every day then he/she would most likey have a higher IQ then 82% of the public high school students....

Not IQ. He'd probably be able to understand the information presented here really well than a lot of people in bog-standard school around the world. HE'd probably also feel really bad about dropping out and would wish to study biology if he's genuinely interested. (Why did I not take biology dammit)

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR VIDEOS!!!!!!! It makes so much sense now!!!! Your examples are AWESOME!!! The only problem that I am having is that I always get different types of tissues and where they are located in the body mixed up! For example, the simple squamous epithelial is for filtration in your kidneys etc and exchange rapid diffusion in your air sacs. But sometime I would get that mixed up with Simple cuboidal epithelial and where it is located. But over all, your videos are very helpful. Glad, I found you!
