Line of Sight is such a dumb rule it boggles the mind. If the drone has a camera, you by definition have line of sight. The entire purpose of drones is to go where you cant physically go.

FPV camera is the one really helping in environment awareness since it is always oriented forward, to the difference of the payload cameras which are zeroing on mission target/subject. 3D and 3TD have some new AI capabilities, 3D map navigation (hence the name?) and vision positioning that might have helped DJI do away with FPV. I guess serious test data has funded their decision. But indeed lack of range finder, tracking, subject-counting and limited zoom capability markedly degrade surveillance and policing efficiency. If I could talk to Dji, I would draw their attention on that, I just hope new payloads are coming. Interchangeable payload and new densors (mm-wave radar?) would ebb the technological tide in their favor, for the moment Autel Robotics is killing it.

It's a shame they are discontinuing the Dock-1. Some features of the 30T don't exist on the 3TD (range finder, FPV camera, redundant IMU and compass, limp-mode, dual GPS receiver for azimuth indication, better zoom and tracking capability …), all features making it easier to obtain BVLOS certification and to police from above. In my opinion, the Dock 1 is worth the price differential, I was working on an urban policing project that was banking on those Dock-1 features 😤

Interesting take. I wonder if this is a step back to take 2 steps forward. Perhaps a future version will start to implement those features back in as the technology is improved.

What is good for stopping drones, a net gun? Or some electric wave thing?
@Baleur7 ай бұрын
Anything will work, but the one downside is that you'll be stopped yourself, and put in a nice jail cell for destroying someones property and endangering the people / property below the drone. Enjoy

We have the Matrice 3D now which is a slightly larger size than mavic 3 with more tools and functionality but less portability due to non-folding arms. The one thing that caught my eye was the IP 54 rating. Now if DJI makes an IP 54 rated photography drone, drone photography/videography will reach heights no other will reach. Literally, if they make the Mavic 4, Air 4 or Mini 5 water resistant, I'd happily upgrade. Also what is the rule "No flying over people"? You're literally flying over others as you do commercial work such as surveying, photogrammetry mapping - I get that it's to reduce hazards related to drones but it just doesn't make sense whatsoever, ESPECIALLY since this drone is designed for commercial work, not for hobbyists. There should be a new classification for drones doing commercial work such as I1 for "Industry work".

The whole thing about getting your part 107 certification is way out in left field. The modern drones from DJI can fly out of the range of site. However you are looking at your smart controller or tablet so you know where it is, the altitude, distance, speed and height. You know not to fly in raining weather or high winds. That's common sense. You know not to hover over traffic or people. Another common sense thing. Why do you need to know how to read a sectional map? You are not going anywhere. Just take and pass the TRUST test and use common sense. More airplane crashes have taken place by pilot error or airplane mechanical error than running into a little drone.
