Great video. I really recommend The Karnsteins from Slovakia. Very fast and melodic music. Sometimes words as a tribute to films and literature, sometimes stories they wrote, sometimes urban legends of their country and sometimes very morbid and dark humor.

Samhain is essential listening for any fan of Glenn Danzig. It’s the perfect bridge between Misfits and Danzig- not only chronologically but also in terms of seeing the metamorphosis of Glenn Danzig as an artist.

Excellent! I can attest that the Groovie Ghoulies were very important for punk in Sacramento and the larger, non-Bay Area, Nor Cal scenes. Particularly Kepi was always supporting bands and getting shows together and in general helping keep the music alive (or was it...undead).

Alien Sex Fiend for earlier UK stuff, Skinny Puppy for blatant industrial gore, GWAR is important, and the nerdiness of Ink & Dagger for 90's vampire hardcore. For recent sounds, Blu Anxxiety are fantastic! And Final Gasp are great for a recent Samhain kick as well. Otherwise, great vid there sir!

Too bad Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13 didnt make the cut, but I'm so glad Murderdolls and Wednesday 13 were on here. Theyre my personal favorites. Horror punk preceeded horror movies for me, too. The initial attraction, for me, stemmed from the extremely dark sense of humor I've inherited from my father, mixed with an adoration for Halloween specials (Garfield, Halloweentown, stuff like that) in childhood. It was like, the obvious next step after I found Tripp pants and black hair dye lol. My introduction to HP was actually Murderdolls' Beyond the Valley album. That album is my "changed my life" album and I want to be buried with mine in my hands, in my casket because I love it so much. After Murderdolls comes the discovery of Wednesday, of course, but also Calabrese. It was this point in time I was also introduced to Misfits. I was already aware of Gravesfits, so I got to really familirize myself with them as well as finding my way to Danzigfits. These bands had such a deep influence on not only me, but my brother too. He has been in a handful of horror punk bands throughout his teens and 20s, and is the frontman for Cleveland-based If I Fall Asleep. Aside from the horror punk themes, they also have a bit of a pop punk sound mixed with metal and hard rock. They honestly have a really unique sound compared to most bands in the genre and are worth a listen if you're curious. open.spotify.com/artist/0QDq78rQ9PpKaxYoIG0Xe8?si=kyTbTBGKR2-mXvEqtNTgwA

A + in regards to your research for the T.S.O.L / 45 Grave Era. I was there for that and eventually gravitated to more gloom doom bands. Which led to following "industrial dance" , and as time carried me forward , eventually led me to Drum & Bass / Jungle. The constant search for HARDER and Faster beats.

I'm more into gothic rock, darkwave and industrial, but I love the Misfits. If you're going to mention the Jasons "Get Sued", you need to check out the biggest Misfits cover/parody band, The Misfats. They were literally the biggest. Their vocalist sounded a lot like Danzig, but the lyrics were changed to focus on the band's obesity. There was "Mommy, Can I Go Out and Grill Tonight", "20 Pies", "Butter" (Danzig's Mother), "Hungry Moments", "Diet, Diet, Diet, My Darling", etc. Some of their stuff is still on YT, but they will never get back together. They also won't restock merch, which is a shame, because their logo was a fat Crimson Ghost skull. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bp60dGh6ptN0aNEfeature=shared

Insanely good video, encompassing everything there is about horror punk. I regularly listen to Allow Hallows EP and The Art of Drowning together. Also Wednesday 13, Murderdolls, Blitzkid and Calabrese and Argyle Goolsby from Blitzkid. The Son of Sam album with Davey Havok is also killer. I work at walmart and that sucks, but I'm in the back so I can wear one ear bud. All day I just bust my ass and listen to music the entire time.

Tsol was not a horror punk band. Jack the singer started his band vicious circle and that every party or show they played there was violence and cops were called so he started the true sounds of Liberty as a punk rock band. Jack likes to experiment with music. That is why his first album and his second album have a different feel but they are not a horror punk rock band. They are a punk rock band. I grew up with them, Ron and Jack are good friends of mine. Some of that live coverage of TSOL was taken at the Cuckoo's Nest. You can immediately know that by the clouds painted on the walls behind them playing. The back door is right there also.

Hey man, Im new to your channel, LOVE IT. Subbed. Anyways, Im from the Bay Area, Cali, grew up there with Billy Joe and Mike (and John the OG drummer) in Rodeo, Ca. Theyre 5 yrs older, they were good friends with my older brother and I used to go watch em practice in their early days as they practiced like 3 mins from my house as a kid. Anyways, thats not why Im writing here, lol, I grew up a metal head as a little kid in the 80's, and then my aunt was a OG punk in the early 80's and was in a punk band called Tractorface (which I stole the name out of honoring her band and call my side project that RN thats skate punk basically, think 88, Good Riddance, old AFI) and I started going to the Gilman after I joined a punk band with my childhood friends that were die hard punks in HS, and was then turned onto 88 Fingers Louie, NOFX, Minor Threat, Fugazi, Heckle, Dillinger 4, etc and I ended up just totally falling in love with the punk scene, and ended up being at most the Gilman shows from 1995 to about late 1997 approx and seen SO MANY AMAZING SHOWS at the Gilman there. I was considered a Berkeley street punk, sleeping on the streets of Berkeley and Oakland and damn near living at the Gilman, etc,. and I was BRIEFLY in one of the biggest Gilman /n Bay area punk bands of the 90s, Subincision. Rob Halford from Judas Priest even flew out to see us one night, a night I infamously got kicked out of that band for getting way too drunk and I dont even know what happened, well i dont remember SOME of it, but i was booted out the band next day, lol. Ive been a musician for 30 yrs, done some touring, and moved to Maryland in 2010 and ended up in the biggest, out here at the time, horror punk band around then, Pain! ..I was in that band 2x, recorded one record of theirs with em (I was "Morbid Pain" BTW lol) we played a fuckton of shows while I was in the band. I HAD TO get sober 6 yrs ago and it was just NOT good for me at the time to be in a band and playing places with alcohol etc. and people doing blow in front of me outside venues, lol. *I wanted to message u here to let you know, I was in like 10+ various punk bands (also a # of metal bands as guitarist, bassist, or drummer)from the Bay Area to Maryland, and I was deep in the scene in the Gilman for yrs, and horror punk scene out here and have friends from a TON of bands u mentioned here like Bobby and Diane Steele, played with The Undead a # of times, and Blitzkid, etc. If you ever want someone to talk to on a podcast or interveiw, Id be happy for all these memories and hundreds of shows I played to not just die with me in my memory banks, lol. Would be happy to discuss times like when I almost got into a fist fight with AFI in 1996 in front of the old Berkeley Guitar Center, lol. That was a funny moment. I ended up with a Art Of Drowning tat i got in 2000 a few yrs later, sio obviously all was ok and no hard feelings. But I have stories of like when Rob Halford showed up and surprised the shit out of me, and seeing all the 90s Gilman and Bay Area bands like Tiger Army, Link 80 I was super tight with friend wise, seen bands like Heckle, Wet Nap, Falling Sickness, Dillinger 4, Propagandhi, Good Riddance, played shows with 88, etc. Would be happy to discuss anything I lived through, including growing up in the Bay Area 80s thrash scene and punk scene out there etc. I will check to see if you respond here next few days, and if u want me to contact you directly to talk more, leave your contact info here if u can. If you dont need me for anything, NP at all, just offering. Loved the vid. And BTW, my fav AFI record for like 20 yrs was Shut Your Mouth, the ferocity on that record is insane. but Art Of Drowning I eventually just had to accept for me is a better all around record depth and songwriting wise. Its the perfect punk record FOR ME as far as style and depth. Black Sails is epic, but I just like Art a bit more, but most would agree with u I think, lol.

Great video! Love this stuff. Saw Blitzkid last month. I wrote that band’s Wilipedia article, and also Mr. Monster’s and Cryptkeeper Five’s. Love the Groovie Ghoulies, ever since their 1991 cover of Pet Sematary. I got to see them back in the day, and they honored my request to play “punk part 2”, dedicated to the Ramones. One FANTASTIC artist that didn’t happen to be mentioned in the video is Nim Vind. Check him out if you don’t know. “Killing Saturday night”, “that girl” (fan video w/horror clips), “jack knife”, and “death defier” are great videos for an introduction. His stuff with Mr. Underhill (underground) and the Vincent Black Shadow (mainstream) also worth checking out.

good overview of the genre.... just a few things.... The Return of the Living Dead soundtrack is a pretty good road map of late 70s/early 80s Horror Punk with The Flesheaters representing the the 70s LA Punk scene, The Tallboys (an off shoot of The Meteors) giving listeners a taste of Psychobilly, Roky Erickson who brought the 60s Psych Rock to Punk fans... and the Jet Black Berries who started off as New Math and had an EP and LP of more 70s/Bowie/ Post Punk Horror sounds... The Forbidden Dimension from Calgary Canada have pretty much been the best Horror Garage Punk band since around 1991..... 90s/ early 2000s Horror Punk bands that I think deserve more attention include..... Riot Squad/The Staggers from Texas, Darkest of the Hillside Thickets, The Coffinshakers, and Ghoultown... the last 2 of these are more Roots Rock/Country Horror Punk, but have enough punk in them to be listenable to Horror Punk fans. I would be remiss if I didn't point out that often Horror Punk from TSOL, to The Groovie Ghoulies and even The Misifits have used Horror Punk to comment on social ills, mental illness and especially being an outsider in your local culture...
