getting into powerviolence was pretty important to me. i'd always been into punk, hardcore, and metal. but after i got into powerviolence i got into grind, then i got into goregrind and mince, and then gorenoise and harsh noise and hnw. So getting into the fast super abrasive pv bands like Weekends Nachos, Infest, Family Vacation, Big Idiot, Punch, Apartment 213, Chainsaw Squid, Twitch, Sex Prisoner, Charles Bronson, and Water Torture really helped expand my tastes in extreme music. But it was Ceremony's early material that got me into powerviolence in the first place.

I'd say they're powerviolence leaning hardcore at the very least. It just gets on my nerves how many bands are deemed not powerviolence by PV elitists (and on the other end deemed false grind by grind elitists). Like, playing devils advocate here, but why would I waste my time with bands like Brain Tourniquet if I could just go back and listen to Crossed Out over and over? I mean obviously I'm going to listen to Brain Tourniquet and other newer bands still because they're sick, but if PV isn't like allowed to evolve and take on new sounds then the genre is going to (and frankly, at points, has) suffocate itself. Genres are fake anyway lol.

Emoviolence gets threatening af, doesn’t tend to take itself super seriously but the more dissonant wacky side of it like reversal of man goes insane

Love powerviolence. Great video, you did a good job trying to navigate the labyrinthine genre crossovers with a lot of these bands. Recommend checking out Bandit.

Best new power violence band, extortion from Perth WA Australia. Check them out, good stuff. Got alot of international attention but then just disappeared. Local pub would get destroyed when they played, good times

Crossed Out was my intro to PV back in highschool. Ironically, I ordered the record from a MRR ad because at the time I was into sXe/crew h.c. I bought the record just on the name "Crossed Out" thinking of an "X". Needless to say, it melted my face off and never looked at h.c. the same way since. 30 years later and I still proudly own a decent PV collection.

Great video! Grew up with Capitalistic Casulities in Sonoma County. Went to a few of the Slap A ham Fesitival de Grinds at Gillman, Ended up in LA and it's cool seeing footage of Infest, Weekend Nachos & ACxDC shows I attended! You're dong a great job with the channel coming from and Bay Area Thrash boomer!

A lot of good stuff here. It's cool that people still go back to see where punk/hardcore pioneers came from, and drop some names that surely turn people on to those bands. Very cool. Personally I am not one to get really specific about genres or labels- many bands cross several such categories and I think a lot of punk bands arrive at their sound simply because they play to their strengths, as opposed to deliberately pursuing formulas. Great live clips in here. Had a punk band just after high school named Slammy Davis Jr. ;)

I don’t think you really grasp how important power violence was to the hardcore scene in the nineties. It was a game changer from all of the meathead beat down shit. I mean MITB, Despise You, Infest, Spazz et all really changed the whole scene. It was like an hc renaissance with a sense of intelligence and often times dark humor.

Check out Manhunt(from australia), Water Torture, Sidetracked, ManPig, Apartment 213, Low Threat Profile...etc etc Going down the power violence rabbit hole is a trip you ll never forget... this vid barely touches the surface but is a nice introduction to spark interest diving into it.

my take is with a genre like powerviolence or grindcore the way to go is to find just a couple bands you like the sound of over the others and just stick with them, mine are infest, coke bust, capitalist casualties, also, shout out to NO TIME RECORDS
