“I first discovered Motörhead on an old cassette in 1977,” recalls Tezz of crust/ hardcore punk pioneers Discharge. “I was blown away; I kept playing it over and over. They were, and still are, a massive influence on me. As the drummer in Discharge I was influenced by several drummers, but definitely Philthy ‘Animal’ Taylor inspired me the most with his speed and technique. The band turned the ‘punk scene’ upside down and cleared the way for bands like us.”

For a young'un, you're doing a great job. As an OG UK punk and now OAP (old aging Punk) I love that you're keeping the spirit of the scene alive, and that's important! Loving your videos, reminds me of my youth, albeit a shame history has sought to label it this and that, when in the early 80s it was just punk, Hardcore and Thrash. Keep on burning the flame sir! 👍

Sorry, I don’t have time to wade through the comments to see if someone else stated: but in regards to Skarp, the only update is that their drummer Joe Grindo is still pretty active in the extreme/brutal music scene. He’s been playing with the band Theories for a few years now and helping to organize the annual Northwest Terror Fest. I’ll ask him what came of the other members next time I see him. He’s been in a number of great bands starting back East when he lived in NYC. Great to see other punx being active here in the PNW. First time watcher and I definitely subbed. This genre was very impactful in my growing up and I still hold true many of the philosophies that were maintained by this scene. Like you, I was a young crusty that was very nihilistic in my approach to the world and my place in it. But, when I gave up the train hopping, substance abuse/alcoholism, and the flagrant disregard for myself, I found my taste and mind expanding. Thankfully is wasn’t Jesus Christ (more like Jesus Crust amirite?!) that simmered me down. I still think the same ideas are as relevant now as they have been since the inception of the scene, but I try to work within my community to help make the world at least a little better than I found it. Cheers! Up the punx, and Oi!Oi!Oi!

Oh funny anecdote; I saw Aus-Rotten play back in 99? In Portland at the Paris Theater. There was a big burly skin in the pit causing a bit of a ruckus. Dave stopped the show, hopped into the audience, picked this dude up, carried him in a bear hug, and dumped him on the sidewalk outside. Dave don’t play! Lol

Very cool introduction to the genre!! nicely done. I would just like to add: A very influential band from Japan is "Battle of Disarm". "Mincecore" is a subgenre of Grindcore that has more political/punk lyrics and ethos. Agathocles and Haggus are mincecore bands. The Lead singer of At the Gates is also the lead singer of Disfear, another notable Swedish Crust band. Members of Tragedy were in His Hero Is Gone. Blackened Crust, a fusion of Norwegian Black Metal and Crust punk was coined by the Canadian band ISKRA. Martyrdöd is also well-known Blackened Crust band. Inepsy is the quintessential "Motorcrust" band. Cool bands I like: Detestation, From Ashes Rise, Auktion, Nasum (grindcore), Avskum Great local bands: Dahmer, Saccage, Napalm Raid, Khan, Hard Charger, Sights of War and Soil of Ignorance.

Good stuff man, and kudos for putting your mental health first. When it comes to self-care, the channel can wait. I was heavily into crust and hardcore throughout the 90's. I was in and out of a few bands that never got anywhere, but I did get together with a couple of solid guys after a few years, to the point where we released our own 7" and had a song on the Profane Existence Aftermath compilation. It was amazing to have our noise sandwiched between bands that we all worshipped for years,

2 years ahead of me at school was Mid (Rob Middleton) who went on to be a member of Deviated Instinct. I never let him know I existed, but I was in awe of him. Snapa (Bass in DI) was also a close friend of some of my mates at school. Through these tenuous connections my love of crust punk was formed. 40 something years later I still regularly blast DI, ENT and Doom, etc for the benefit of my neighbours.

Plus a bunch of bands played here like Naked Aggression , Hell Nation , Apocalypse Hoboken and a bunch more . My band played with Phobia and Wormrot a grindcore band from Singapore ! Fun night .

Hey, you take as long a break as you need. Your mental health comes first, always. It's more important than keeping with a brutal uploading schedule. If you need to change it, if you change it a few times before you find a schedule that works better for you, if you don't have one at all and just upload whenever you feel like it, do it. You won't be letting anyone down by taking care of yourself first.

i've been into hardcore punk for a while now and I somehow skipped over crust punk which is insane to me cus i've been loving the sound. i got into dystopia a while ago and they have been my favorite band since! so i've been trying to explore sludge metal (found out the sludge scene where i'm from was very influential to the sound) and crust punk. i will definitely be looking into the bands that you listed!

I would not personally states Napalm Death as the most influencial band for grind and grindcore, to me Carcass fits the role way more. Both are equally important but Carcass has a slight advantage for me.

Carcass is more influential to goregrind tbh, Napalm Death and Terrorizer were more influential to the regular grindcore

Just spell in your channel and have been ripping through all these videos. Gear job dude. Please consider doing a video on the current state of punk, where all the influences are coming from. There’s so much cool shit coming out of everywhere. The US is having a huge hardcore revival, the Uk is all post punk. Then there’s all kinds of neat shit coming out of Australia - Alien Nosejob, Smarts, the Chats, Amyl and the Sniffers. Would be cool to hear your thoughts. Great videos. Keep it up!

Definitely do a video on Powerviolence and fastcore. I’ve always seen them as more of a primitive form of grindcore with elements of jazz and prog depending on the band. also you can’t mention Powerviolence without mentioning the bands Neanderthal, man is the bastard and Crossed Out. Matt domino while in while in Neanderthal came up with the phrase.
