Some of my family live in SC and we go to Tybee beach a lot. Savannah is a lovely place to visit. The last time we actually record shopped in Graveface, we waited in line for Record Store Day before it was a branded thing! lol! Glad to see they are still going strong!

Graveface is definitely going strong. Yeah, no idea why I haven’t properly visited Savannah before now. I had a bunch of friends in college that would travel there for St. Pat’s weekend. We would always say, “Hope you make it back!” Lol Thanks, Jenny! Hope you guys are doing well. Cheers ✌🏻

Wow. Even I have been to a rodeo. At the Cow Palace, where the Beatles played 🤠

Looks like a beautiful place with a cool record store. I've been mildly curious about a rodeo, but I think you've taken care of any need I had to see one. Loved the way you described it. Nice finds.

Savannah is very pretty, and pretty cool. Graveface Records is even cooler than the town itself. Yeah. You’re not missing anything with the rodeo. Maybe if you went to one in the sticks out in Texas. With no corny announcers and corporate sponsorships. Maybe then… Cheers, Todd! ✌🏻

Cornfields! 🤣 My wife’s family has always had a corn shucking tradition. And somehow, every July or so, when it was time to handle the year’s crop - I suddenly am not available. 😎🤫 I still need that Soft Machine debut, Lis! I’m gonna get it someday. Hope all is well, sis! ✌🏻🌞

Damn! Now I want to watch the Movie 8 Seconds with Luke Perry about the Rodeo. Haha I’ve never listened to the Flesh Eaters but I feel like I must be missing out. I know Steve Carlson loves them. Cheers☘️

I can always count on you for a Luke Perry reference, Brian. 🤣 The Flesh Eaters are pretty cool. I see that Carlson is a fan. Makes sense. Hope you’re doing well, man. The Country/Americana 2024 release calendar is a strong one this year!

Well these are indeed good grabs. I did not know there was this King Sunny Ade reissue. The copy I got was pretty reasonable, worth tracking down. Stunning record. Nice Ron Carter there, would like to find that one. Good little imprint there. I've actually been to a rodeo. Years ago Madison Square Garden had a PBR event and a bunch of us dufuses went. We kept making PBR jokes all night.

PBR. The nectar of the 2000s-era indie rock kids. You will go see Destroyer at Cat’s Cradle. You will drink PBR and you will like it. Do not argue with me.

Ah well, at least now if you find yourself roped into another rodeo you can say "this is not my first rodeo"🤠 even I've been to a couple (my agricultural high school used to hold one, prize money and all). Probably not my bag these days. My bag would be spending some good time by that there river you showed. Just gorgeous! And Graveface too, some quality stuff you flicked through AND purchased (well, except for King Sunny. That's one where i'd have a moral conundrum in submitting it for trade). Flesh eaters looked graveface-appropriate, and that Softs looks near immaculate for an OG. Surely their first sold more and will be easier to find? Love this vinyl/ travel vignette, more please (if you get a chance :)

I used to romanticize the rodeo in my head. This was nothing like that. It was in indoor bore. The river in Savannah is beautiful. An old beautiful town for sure. There’s plenty of copies of Soft Machine’s first out there. Just depends on if you want the uncensored cover and the condition (as always). I had a copy, but it was noisy as hell. More to come for sure. Cheers my friend. ✌🏻

In my mind you grew up going to Rodeos every weekend. In fact, I would've thought you were one of those adorable kids who rode sheep at the age of five. Now, I love the idea of going to a rodeo. Probably in the same way American tourists flock to Buckingham Palace. But I wonder, on the back of your review, how much I could take? That's a bummer about the King Sunny Ade. At least the cover looks cool. Cheers - Hedley
@TheDigitalGramophone6 ай бұрын
Hedley, there was nothing vintage, heroic, or cinematic about this rodeo. It was very modern. I guess the only thing that was consistent with the rodeos of the past was the animal abuse. My wife’s family is from the country. My father-in-law has some land where he keeps angus cattle. I actually love the fact that my kids will get a taste of both walks of life - the “city” and the farm.
@Paneeks19606 ай бұрын
Jon. I truly thought that you grew up on a farm. 😎 I should keep the humorous comments to myself. I would have loved to have grown up on a farm. It beats the traffic and the overly angry city drivers anyday. Honestly. I have never been to a rodeo. But you never know what the future holds. I give you props for not sticking around for OA. I am sure that you will get a chance to see him live one of these days. Graveface looks like a good take-in. Any Smiths rarities? 😎 again . Thanks J~ Rob/Boston
@TheDigitalGramophone6 ай бұрын
Keep the humor coming, Rob! 😄 My wife’s family is more from the country. My father-in-law has an angus farm somewhere out near our VC pal Kris. General area that is. I don’t know the specifics. I’m glad my kids will get a taste of both walks of life. The rodeo was weird. There was no theater to it at all. Nothing rustic or vintage about it. Graveface is a cool store. I didn’t see any Smiths rarities, but that doesn’t mean they weren’t in there. Always great to hear from you my friend. Cheers! ✌🏻

Hi Jon - If I went to a rodeo , I could legitimately say " This IS my first rodeo " Seeing the " highlight " was fascinating. Cowboy 🤠 or MAGA Hat required 🤔. Definitely get A Minute To Prey , A Second To Die. X & Blasters are backing band on it. Hot 🔥 as hell & it's still not summer !

We saw a guy get stomped on. I didn’t feel sorry for him at all. I’ve been trying to find that Flesheaters album. I guess Steve Carlson found it. The heat has turned up quickly around here as well. Going record digging with some VC folks tomorrow. Should be fun. Cheers, David! ✌🏻

Very cool Flesh Eaters, I had just got a OG of the one you want if that makes you feel better. I have an original of that Ade album and it doesn’t sound the best but it did come out of Africa so it had some, shall we say, wear and tear to it. Bull Riding, growing up in NE that was always exciting, now, watch it on TV where they can edit it. People just want to see someone stomped by a bull, another blood sport
@TheDigitalGramophone6 ай бұрын
It appears you can find decent copies of the Ade album online for prices that aren’t exorbitant. I really wish this reissue had worked out, though. We definitely saw a guy get stomped on. I didn’t feel sorry for him at all. 😂 Cheers, Steve! Love seeing photos of your Colorado adventures.

It’s very boring. There were several records I saw in the bins at Graveface that I’ve seen shown in the VC, but wasn’t too familiar with the music. I could’ve easily doubled the amount of records that day.
