I like how you used the rock rail to shift your position. That is one of the hardest things to explain to people when off roading when it comes to maneuverability of the KLs
@FearlessTrailhawk
@FearlessTrailhawk 3 жыл бұрын
Yep. And my brother was all like "watch your door"...i'm like, yeah, the rock rail is doing what it does...its fine. Those rails have put in some serious work over the years. Best investment for the KL.

Yeah. Tire pressure need to be REALLY low I think for KL to do better at this. I'm thinking 10 PSI and beadlock rims. When we can get front and rear subframe drop, we can use taller skinnies and get more flex from the tires. Something that I've been experimenting with with my KL is to use spring rubbers (coil boosters) in addition to my lift , not for lift , but for increased spring rate. It doesn't flex anyway , so make the springs stiffer for better non static ground clearance and then dump the flex to the tires. Basically like heavy material equipment. The difference is that you don't have tons of weight lol. Per some corner travel experiments I've done , I lost basically zero corner travel (weirdly) but gained dynamic clearance and increased spring rate. One other thing that helps and helped me a little bit is to use wheel spacers. My tires are a little bit smaller than yours I have the 265 65 instead of the 265 70 and I can actually clear a 0.75 inch wheel spacer from Rocky road outfitters with NO pinch weld mod. Pretty cool. It also solved the suspension arm rubbing 100% . The wheel spacers will change the motion ratio making it a little easier for your springs to compress under load and help flex ( But it might also reduce dynamic ground clearance lol). However.. with the wheel spacers and the spring rubbers I still have better dynamic clearance and better stability.

Thats pretty crazy! More spotter guidance, please. Not a trail for stock vehicles. Yeah, only downside of the Hawks, Grand included, is control arms. Amazing job, gents. Glad you went there now I dont have too. Cheers!👍👍😎🇺🇸

Yeah, finding a spotter that understands we can't take a wrangler line and watching out for control arms is hard to do. I can count on one hand the number of people i truly trust to spot me through something questionable. (these two yahoos are not on that list as they just don't have the experience yet)

@@FearlessTrailhawk It was great to watch. And to be fair, 5 people will have 5 different lines on any section. Rock rails, a lift, tires and skid plates saved the day. Nicely played good sir!

You just got a well deserved like and subscribe! My 2017 Trailhawk is coming up on 100K miles. I kind of feel I got my regular life out of it, so time for some fun. I have ordered a Dobson + 2 inch MFC lift, some frogfab rockrails (as all the others are way backlogged), and some Toyo 245/70R/17. I doubt I will take on trails this tough, but it will open up some possibilities. Keep these great videos coming, you are indeed fearless!

Nice work. Took my 2020 Blue Canary through Rausch a couple of months back. Wanted to do A couple of badge trails but just took it easy and just got #11. Was on a 4000 mile road trip. Didn't want to break anything. Think i will go back next year and give it a shot.
@FearlessTrailhawk
@FearlessTrailhawk 3 жыл бұрын
I certainly wouldn't attempt it without people i knew....much less solo. We were on a week-long 2k mile trip and this place was 10 hours from home, none of us wanted to break anything either! We had about 10 of the 15 rigs go back to the front of the park and playground after #11, so don't feel bad.

Really impressive! Quick question. I notice some videos you’ve got the recovery strap at the ready sticking out from the trunk and other videos you don’t. Is there any specific reason for this ? I’m still learning the basics. Thanks
@FearlessTrailhawk
@FearlessTrailhawk 3 жыл бұрын
Its generally something the club does for rides if we anticipate anyone getting stuck, to have the tow straps already hooked up. It saves lots of time on larger rides. (Especially for the ones who have d-rings) The times i don't, its either because i forgot to, or because i don't anticipate anyone getting stuck.

I believe i was for most of it, but i don't remember for sure. But who knows, i do have a habit of just leaving it in Auto all day. But yeah, for some reason it seems mine allows more wheel spin than others that i have seen. But again, just guesswork at this point.

While you were out at Rausch Creek did anyone try “JK Killer”? We had to pull out a JK on 35’s. His tires were completely submerged in the mud.
@FearlessTrailhawk
@FearlessTrailhawk 3 жыл бұрын
I don't think anyone even knows where that was at? We passed a billion different mud holes that looked deeper than we wanted to test. Rule of thumb with the people i wheel with, either be on tonnes and 40's, or don't touch any mud hole you don't know how deep it is. Especially while 800 miles from home!

How often do you break things? How's the bumper cover hold up?
@FearlessTrailhawk
@FearlessTrailhawk 3 жыл бұрын
Major breaks? 1 front diff, 2 rear diffs, 4 rear CV's (replaced the one set when the rear diff recently went out due to bent and worn splines, and the CV's never "broke", they were replaced preventatively). All 4 wheel bearings. A few dented fenders and fender flares torn off. This is 3 years of wheeling often, and 70k miles. You can see how the bumper cover is holding up....scratched to crap and half the clips are broken. Its getting replaced with a metal bumper hopefully by the end of the year, so i'm not as concerned with it.
