Been running these GRC high clearance portal housings on a couple of my trx4 rigs and their complete axle set up on my Negative-g trx4 and I am still blown away to this day at how often I see them clearance the tips of rocks and other obstacles. I have also bashed the snot out of them and snapped cvd's and the axle mounted portal gear has remained intact. Thumbs up for the great review 👍💯👍

Wich Full Axle setup did you get, i noticed they have expensive ones wich are milled out of aluminium, and also Diecast, Molded Aluminium ones wich are way cheaper. If you went for the cheaper ones, Do they fit the bearings well/ other OEM parts?

I have been watching your channel for a while now and learned alot after being out of the hobby for so long.. I tried different servos and spent a lot on each one and didn't last. I tried the blue label case andd it is working better than the more expensive ones. The Radiolinks feels so much better in my hands than the Spectum. The trans you use is the one of the of the best of the 4 I tried. Now when I am looking to purchace something I look back at your video's and start my research from there. I don't know helpful you are to mee and I am sure to many more that watch you channel

This would be highly tempting for my Class 2 scale comp car, as its a TRX4 Sport, and many other are ruynning elements and axials, so i wanna stay trx4 :D Recently recieved in mail a set of LCG-ish carbon framerails that can recieve the TRX4 gearbox. Was planning on using my old Sport brassed up axles in new build, old chassis and rails and body may as well get used to trailrunning and backup/casual drive. Our comps are very varied in the rocks, some are choppy sandy broken rocks a little like yours, some are super smooth coastal cliffs that has been licked by rain and waves, so the extra clearance could be helpful, atleast it would be a different looking build. Then again its not that often i am stuck on the portals, my main biggest enemy is very low belly, the new framerails aluminium skid is smooth so it shouldnt get as easily stuck, and its got high clearance links. ITs a TRX4 LCG Carbon fiber thing, from Injora if curious.

Hey I run these. A lot more shock mounting options and way better clearance. Currently running the GRC axle housing on the rear axle of my competition truck, it’s a mullet with ar44 front and GRC trx4 rear axle.

Bro, probably need your advise here. I'm planning to build my main go to rig, but I'm still not sure which one better. Either GRC G2 trx4 complete CnC axle or Boomracing phat AR44 portal axle. Both designed to have the knuckle clearance better than other axle. Please. Need opinion on this.

I have no experience with the Boom Racing axles, so I can't speak for or against. But I do love those G2 knuckles-- so I imagine I'd love the full axles as well. Now here's the rub: the G2 are what I would call significantly cheaper, but they're just housings-- you need a full set of internals, which is going to add on another ~$100 if you don't already own a set of TRX-4 axles. At that point, the price is very nearly identical. So that's a wash. AR44 will allow you to go SOA easily and inexpensively. The offset front of the G2 is going to fit better on 80% of gearboxes. They're both essentially only available internationally (speaking from the US) and the price is effectively a wash (starting from scratch) so I dunno. If there were a slim edge, it would be that the internals put into the G2s, being Traxxas-sourced, will be effectively worry-free. I know nothing about the quality of what's inside the Boom Racing, so I can't say. So I would personally lean toward the G2s, just because of past experience. But I'm saying negative about the Phat axles.

@@CrawlerCanyon awesome insight bro! glad that i watch your video and comment here! I have trx4 axle around and noted that G2 axles will be cheaper. But Boomracing man..its quality made my brain cloudy and AR44 steering angle are better than the most (I'm not so sure about this, haven't experience AR44 myself, but most youtube video that I watch are saying AR44 steering can be tuned tighter compared to TRX4, F10 and even AR45). Another concern that i have is TRX4 use CVD, but AR44 is universal. I don't know which one better for performance and long term use. Do you have any opinion on this?

I've had those on my ebay watch list for almost 2 years now I think lol. Only thing I was concerned about is the output shaft is a single piece with the gear in the portal. I wish it used stock internals. I know I'd break that gear or output and have to buy the entire set again lol

Why are there gears included, are the stock axles not compatible? And are axle weights wich are part of the portal also still compatible?

There are gears because shrinking the C-hub requires putting the bearing for the portal output gear inside the gear itself. Any other part bolts right on. I just transferred everything from the OE knuckles and hubs to the GRC.

Longer front length is to adjust ackerman. Looks like inner holes would be slight positive ackerman, outer holes would be zero ackerman

10 is narrow capra wide, she looked amazing on other wheels tucking weights. needs 9 3/4 ish. Yeah alot of steering scrub that wide. Definitely look better designed and more clearance for sure. ADDS ackerman using outer holes on knuckles i would guess. Do you treat your pond for mosquitos ?

I agree on the width, and absolutely cannot find a set of wheels that calls out to me. Everything with an SLW hub is hitting me kinda plain. The pond is treated with both algaecide and insecticide, but I question the efficacy of both-- I still get string moss outbreaks, and the pond is full of both snails and dragonfly larvae.

You definitely have different sun or heat than I get. Here the mosquitos don’t care about the sun at all. They come out when the dew point is right.

been running the GRC high-steer upgrades since 2019, those are the best upgrades for the TRX4 even the GRC upgrade axles are good. the difference is you get more shock mounting options. the steering angles you get are way better than stock, not even a steering mod on stock axles will come close. Buy the rear GRC replacements so you have the same shock mounting options. I use the lowest shock mounts. There is also a GRC high-steer links for that. I have not seen any TRX4 replacement axles that are better than GRC, even the expensive replacement don't come near it. lol brass upgrades, throw those away. the trx4 axles are already heavy. change your wheels, change them to a VP style wheel with 250SLW like hubs. your rig is so heavy, it's not optimal!

What’s the benefit with ackerman steering? I saw in an other video you achieve that if you mount the parallel steering link in the outer holes. You get 45° on the inner and 37,5° on the outer. It feels like you gonna lose steering then. 🤷‍♂️

On a street car, it's cornering stability and minimizing wheel scrub, but on a rock crawler... 🤷‍♂️ I guess all I really need to do it make a longer link and slap it on there to see how it affects the steering. My guess is that Ackermann steering would be on all the rigs if it worked on rocks, but I dunno yet.

@@CrawlerCanyon I think you should test it. But I agree with you I think it better if on a streetcar. Because the outer tire turn less than the inner. And on a rock crawler you maybe only have contact with the outer in some circumstances. But I could be wrong. Would be fun if you test it and give your opinion 😊👌

To kill a fly, go reeeeeaaaaaaly slowly to get you hand close enough to smack it. I saw a video that claimed they can’t perceive the movement when it is slow enough. It doesn’t always work, but my kill ratio is no longer zero.

Also aim 2-3" above the fly. They jump so you have to predict the impact zone.

After a fashion-- I almost exclusively use super cheap Amazon servo horns, and I've stripped out... a whole lot of them. They act like a one-time-use slipper clutch for the servo. As to running an spring-type servo saver, no. That would really kill maneuverability.

I still think that the weak point in the box remains the stock portal input gear (being sintered) and that's a good thing. I think all of the machined parts from GRC should be plenty durable. And there's so much less C-hub hanging down, that the kind of situations that would snap a C-hub simply can't happen to these.

From GRC? I'm sure they make housings. Daphne runs stock boxes with STRC portal mounts-- and the mounts aren't even necessary, IMO. I just liked the pop of color and the clearance price.
