To give Adam some credit, Crayola oil pastels are well known for just being as brittle as can be, even for me who's a really dainty, gentle color-er. They snap with even a fraction of force put on them I genuinely don't know why Crayola hasn't changed their formula so they're actually usable by now

Agree with Adam on the Book Rage. It’s promoted as a Book, not Activity Pages that I recall off. And even Activity Pages can be in a BOOK. And if it was a book, they wouldn’t have needed that random (wasted unless you make art with it) cardboard. A very ‘Adult Coloring’ indeed. Though the idea of the activities being useful tor those who wish to self-teach themselves the techniques is very useful. Helps with the idea that everyone can do art, or those who believe they have to learn to be able to do art. (This ended being a longer comment than need be but, adora your content, guys!)

The fundimental pages teaching techniques are genuinely really useful! Though if it has numbered pages... WHY NO BOOK?

I do believe Prismacolor has a series of Kits where they teach you about blending and fundamentals. Maybe you could see the difference between them? Prismacolor’s version does have a link to see videos, I think!

I know it’s two years old but this is the first time I’ve seen this video, and seriously…Adam destruction testing everything was exactly what I (a sad, art-nerdy klutz) needed to see today. I know a kindred spirit when I see one, even if the main identifying sign is a long trail of broken art materials. 😂 Thank you for the priceless giggles, Art Friends. 😊

I'm really curious now how Steph taught Adam to draw because my boyfriend is asking for drawing advice and apparently just 'use reference' isn't too helpful. Kudos to Steph for being a good teacher!!
@Charoula16082 жыл бұрын
I don't think Steph sat down and taught Adam to draw. He just started practicing along with her for fun.
@SeekerGoldstone3 ай бұрын
I think there is a great chasm between the ability to *do* and the ability to teach. I am naturally sure-footed, and I have no idea how to teach someone dexterity because I was never really taught myself... I learned to do that like Milo of Croton carrying his pet bull... I learn everything that way so I don't know how to teach someone to not fall over or how to make a song sound sad. I learned my skills by failing at easy tasks until I was practiced enough to succeed at more difficult tasks... but you can't teach that method. It sounds to me like you also learn like Milo... That you failed to draw a reference repeatedly until you succeeded at drawing the reference... because like me, you're an artist but not a teacher.

I have to say, your video editing and sound effects are always ON POINT; the “activity pages” drama stings made me laugh so hard! I’m dealing with nasty allergies AND a cold right now, so I appreciated the laugh! EDIT: BTW, since Adam tends to be heavy handed (RELATABLE!), he may prefer using Crayola’s Color Sticks, which are basically fat colored pencils with no wood. Crayola also has something called Slick Stix, which are like slick gel crayons…things. They’re in plastic tubes like lipstick (read: unbreakable) and they’re fun to mess around with! FWIW I’ve never used their color sticks, but I have a small set of Slick Stix and I LOVE them. (They’re also water-soluble, BTW. But truth be told I usually just lick my finger and smudge with that rather than using water and a brush. 😅) I also found out that Crayola sold the “Inspiration Pad” from your set by itself, but it appears to be long out of print now. Anybody out there who wants to try similar drawing exercises would be better off searching for then on Pinterest or something and then printing them out.
